TALI, STAY DOWN!!!

Speaking of Tali...Trying to get her off Haestrom is proving very difficult with retarded squadmates. My death count is probably in the 30s right about now.

What class are you playing?

As a soldier on Insanity.

I recommend bring Miranda and Grunt.  You're going to have to be in cover and not charge ahead while the geth come forward.  Have miranda strip their shields and grunt use a concussive shot.  Then geth are easy pickings off the ground.  The demolition charges you could just sit back in cover and pick the geth off, if they near you use adrenaline rush to take them out quick.  Once you get to the drones just sit back and let your squaddies handle them.  A good bonus power for this mission is stasis to take out the drone and then focus on the primes.  Taking out colossus just requires patience and slowly moving up until you reach him.  I reccommend a heavy weapon to bring the shields down and then using Miranda for warp and putting grunt in front of you so if any geth near you he charges them and you use his fortification to ensure he doesn't die.  The misssion just requires proper timing.

Thanks for the tips. I had Mordin and Garrus in the squad so I had to do a little improvising but your tips helped a great deal. I let my squad do all the work against the flying drones then I took out the primes. Getting to the colossus was tough but I made sure to take my time, too much time since Reggar bit the dust.

The stats are linked to each weapon, under "AIBurstFireCount" and "AIBurstFireDelay" if my memory serves.  It's why if you give somone a viper they stand there shooting over and over while taking hits to the face.  They're programmed to fire 4-6 shots and won't stop until they finish, and then wait 2-3 seconds and do it again, regardless of their health or shields.

That's... incorrect... there's a lot more going on there, you're just seeing a couple of the inputs.

As for ME3, henchmen will be benefiting from a lot of the general improvements we've made to AI.

The only thing I wish is for squad members to go back into cover after they have been knocked out of said cover

Squad? I have a squad? Oh. Wait, you mean those two guys that follow me around after I clear the area?

Honestly, I don't really worry much about my squad. One of the dangers of Vanguard. They're usually two far behind me to be of much use. In the places where I do use them, it's mostly for drawing enemies out of cover so I can break out the sniper rifle.

I hope directing the squad is less of a hassle this time around. I want them to proceed to that cover 20 feet in front of them but if their dumb enough to choose the geth infested path instead of the clear path right in front of them they're of no use.

i'd say the least they can do is to make a command to tell your squadmates to do some supressive fire, (better yet u can order which group/single enemy to shoot at), or hold their fire (stop shooting, take your guddam cover!)

Yes! If BioWare can't make the A.I. smart enough to know when not to shoot and when to shoot then put some more squad commands in the hands of player so we can tell them what to do.

I've been saying this for months and people just keep telling me how great the AI is.  I'm very glad someone not only knows what I mean,  but has even more data about it than I do!

I hate the term AI.

Human beings have not created anything remotely close to what Artificial Intelligence is.. at least not when it comes to gaming (can't speak for classified military tech, etc).

All games do is create scripts that give the illusion of AI... but there's zero actual intelligence in these scripts... it's a sequence of checks and pre-determined routines that execute when a specific variable is reached. To put it dumbly, it's a glorified "If / and / or / then" programming statement you'd use in a programming 101 course.

Sorry.. I just get annoyed at the horrid misuse of the word "AI" that the gaming industry uses... wish people would just call it what it really is... a script.

If the Devs do relinquish more squad commands to the player, the commands will most likely be via voice command on the consoles. There are so few buttons on the controllers as it is that it would only surmount to being extremely complex. If more squad commands are given through voice command, I think it would run smoothly and effectively with the AI.

E.G.:

Shepard (through the player's voice): I need some covering fire on that Ceberus Assault Trooper!

or you can say something like ---> Garrus, shoot the Cerberus Assault Trooper on the left and Liara use Warp on the Cerberus Assault Trooper on the right!

To confirm that your commands have been verified, your squad mate(s) will respond respectively to your commands with a "Alright!", "I got it!", "Roger that!", or something along those lines.

Then as per your command, your squad mates perform the actions you wanted them to do. With voice commands a player should be able to utilize all possible squad mate actions in combat. Although AI should be well versed in a firefight on their own without commands. But more voice commands are more reasons to buy Kinect :wizard:

Squad AI in ME2 was horrible, absolutely horrible. On easier difficulties it wasn't noticeable, but when you move up to Veteran\\Hardcore it suddenly becomes very irritating.

Not only do they not know when to stay in cover and when to shoot (They never stay in cover to regen health when they're close to dying), they also have awful problems finding cover on their own, this is especially noticeable in fights where enemies come at you from more than 1 direction (like Horizon or the Collector Ship), they'll take cover somewhere that protects them from fire coming from one direction but leaves them completely vulnerable to fire from the other direction, even when there are spots that can protect them from both directions.

Sadly I don't plan on spending $150 on Kinect since I plan to spend $60-80 on Mass Effect 3. The voice commands would be cool if those same commands couldn't be executed with the press of the D-Pad. Kinect does seem pretty cool but I don't really need it for the voice command purposes.

I hope not. At least the enemy AI is competent at best, shouldn't be hard for BioWare to make the squadmates smarter.

honestly...they try to take so much from GoW...and yet they can't seem to get right the simple idea that "gee......it's a cover based shooting mechanic....MAYBE....the first priority in a firefight should be getting in cover and STAYING in cover"

I haven't played GoW in a while but I still remember that the A.I. was smart enough to know that if you're out of cover you're gonna die. Even with all the botic and tech powers, in a fight, Baird>Miranda lol.

indeed

also your squadmates managed to kill enemies on their on in GOW much more frequently than in ME2
