I accept your apology.
You're a good man, and probably not the bane of all existence... it's your evil EA overlords that are the problem.
Would you mind going into details about how you plan to ouster them and what we can do to help?
Oh, come on. Its a bit of a stretch to believe that Mike went into work, took a seat and decided "Right, today I'm going to balls up one of our strongest franchises today and betray the fans - and I'm not going to let anyone on the team stop me..."
I appreciate you may have been joking, but jokes that imply someone is incompetent, dishonest and deceitful - after they rose above some emotionally charged accusations and actually offered an apology to you, are just not appropriate. Or all that funny.

Please dont try and spoilt the thread and discussion any further mate, you made your point we get it, you even got a personal apology from the man. Dont try and make him look an idiot in public you really do just come across badly at that point.
Its posts like that which contribute towards disengagement and disenfranchisement between community and developers, and yes I am aware that to some people DA 2 made a contribution to that same issue, but seriously, enough already please.

Whoa.
An personal apology is good, great thing Mr. Laidlaw if you don't mind me saying so - as an avid DA2-basher - warms my black heart, and I'll drink to that too.
I'd rather take an picture of redesigned Morrigan than an apology though - that could make me give up any hope for even decent DA-game ever again.

Also, since we're openly discussing things, how's the discussion on making a story that the engine is capable of telling going? Because I think most people dislike Kirkwall because it looks nothing like the codices and dialogues tell it should.

For the record, whilst I disagree with a number of Ethereal's views on graphics (Old Darkspawn and Old Elves > New Darkspawn and New Elves, no exceptions) I actually liked his ideas a lot when I saw them first time around.
If anyone on the design team has a few minutes spare, it certainly wouldn't hurt to look over them.

Loved the arcitecture of Kirkwall, it gave a lot of character to the game world; unfortunately, as others pointed out, you don't really see much of it unless you stop playing and start faffing about with the camera. Lack of people was definitely an issue, especially given the background info on the city initially being crammed to the gills with refugees.Bryy_Miller wrote...
Kirkwall is really awesome-looking. Most of the feedback seems to be from the fact that there are not a lot of people in it. If there was a population, I doubt it would be an issue.
The things that killed it for me were a combination of lack of people (and animals), asset re-use on the extras (Kirkwall seems to have an over abundance of triplets and even quadruplets on ocassion), something that seemed to be addressed (or at least better disguised) in Legacy, and the lack of (obvious) changes as the years passed.
If the story had been over the course of a year or two then that wouldn't have mattered, but given the timeline of nearly a decade the lack of change was pretty glaring, from Fenris' corpse themed interior design choices to the broken flagstones in Hightown.
I'm sure there's reasons for all of this, the same way there were reasons behind all the other decisons that people took issue with (at a guess a lot of them were deadline/cost related), and I'm quietly confident that any future games set over a similar timeline/limited to one core location will be more alive because the devs have a good handle on what doesn't work.
On complexity - I've played WoW on and off for years, DA has nothing on that when it comes to complicated, yet millions of players seem to gleefully muddle through anyway. Trust that people like a challenge and like to learn, complex things are only a problem if you don't do adequate usability testing and handle the journey through the mechanics badly. Mind I'm coming from a website design/usability background on that one, so I'm not going to assume how much (if any) of those principles cross over into games.
The levels of vitriol aimed at specific people did make me cringe mind. It's one thing to be upset or disappointed, it's another to start demanding heads.
P.S. Thanks to the OP for starting a really interesting discussion.

[Just so I'm understanding you right, you want warriors to close the gap between them and an enemy? Because they do that now, though it looks like a speed dash which I didn't like. I'd hope for it to have a touch of realism.
Righ so instead for me dashing across the screen - create an ability called Charge(or whatever we want to call it) - which warrior charges a target from X distance. The change animation from him dashing to a run then hitting the target with his/her shoulder or if using Sword and Shield the shield.
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking for beyond "Don't go back to Origins animations", which I agree with.
Sorry I may have a slip in to WoW talk... three mobs line up next to each other in a row. the Attack/Cleave what ever we want to called. Now you main Targert is mob A the attack strikes mob A for X damage and strikes mob B and C that a either to left of the righ for Y damage which is a deceased value of damage the A mob took.
So instead of what we have know.. Warrior dashing half way across the screen (A la Dante using Stinger) we have charge ability that you have to be a certain distance from to use say 5 -10 yards and Cleave ablitiy.
Sorry I was not very clear the first time around .

The anonymity of the internet is no excuse to be rude, juvenile, or insulting to anyone, let alone the developers you want to listen to you and perhaps agree with you. You can hate, you can whinge, you can complain, you can lament, you can question. But you will not disrespect our developers. I hope I am crystal clear on this.
