But Mike, do You think that it will at least be possible to kiss your love interest on the road? Not talk but just kiss?
Very unlikely. Kisses are next to impossible when characters could be standing on a hill.
And no one wants to see that screenshot.
anyway, could we at least kiss our LIs when we want to at their home base or at the central hub?

do you see the ability to customise and create the player character expanding at all with future titles?
One of my largest gripes with da2 is the preset character and the limited options you get to make him your own.

On a more serious note;
While I approve of "best of both worlds" - there are many inherent problems with this - what are the best parts in both games, and that really differs from person to person - walking the middle-ground has the possibility of really appealing to no one.
And then there is the fact that both games share many of the same flaws; like completely reactive protagonist, certain quirks in writing, gameplay/story-segregation (which grew into ridiculous levels in DA2) And these are some things I really would have liked seen fixed in transition from DA:O to DA2.. yet to no avail. (And I admit, some of these things I didn't even consider before DA2, but going back to playing origins after DA2 really started to show me these flaws)

Thank you SOOO much for answering Mike!
And totally understandable that it's simply too soon to discuss that particular subject openly. Just thought it would help to clear up matters, as I for one don't quite understand and so cannot appreciate where we are headed with the franchise. But I think simply knowing that people who make the game would like to build upon the foundation comprised of both DA:O and DA2, as opposed to DA2 alone while tossing DA:O completely out the window helps a great deal. This was one of the fears around the forums, so thank you for clearing that up.
Don't forget them kisses... Actually, make 'em a double fer sure!

Increased community interaction is one of the things I would like to do in future projects. I would like us to get back to the way things were in the early days of the BioWare online community, where developers felt safe and valued and their opinions and advice were respected because, hey, these guys made the game y'all love.b1322 wrote...
I liked Legacy and could feel some of the improvements. And I really appreciate that Bioware takes the time to listen and answer our feedback, thank you! :-)
Over the years, as the community has gotten bigger and project deadlines more important, we've slacked off a bit. I admit that. I've even gotten grouchier as a Moderator and have had to get people like John Epler to be the "good cop" to my "bad cop," Chris Priestly isn't even able to be online with you guys as much as he used to be.
But going forward, I would like both us and the community to be welcoming to new developers who want to share their expertise, advice and opinions. I want an artist, for example, to come in and talk about what he's working on without a small portion of the community screaming "DA2 SUCKED!" at him. I would like a designer to be able to talk about this new system or solicit ideas for a planned feature without a big long tangent on how "EA is the devil!" And I especially want to come in and chat with all y'all without feeling like I have to fight through some of you to get to those people who can and want to listen to what I have to say.
We hope that the Dragon Age franchise has a long way still to go. We have lots of ideas, and you guys have a lot of opinions and a desire to learn everything you can about what's coming up, what's in the pipe, and what hit store shelves, like, an hour ago or whatever. To do that, we have to be willing to set our differences aside and work like a community again. We have to believe that you ultimately like us and want to help us build better games, and you have to believe that we love what we do and that we are doing it for you, our community, our fans, and gamers worldwide (as well as for money).
Let's be excellent to each other and help to make this community the best developer board you can find. Let's attract some new devs to talk, and let's agree to disagree when things get too heated or when we start talking in circles. And we, in turn, will continue to be forthright with you and, as always, as open as we can be about what we're doing and why we do it.
Thanks for reading.
A good sentiment. I hope it can work out that way. It has to be a two-way street though.
I've been on the forums for some years now. Since the DRM debacle for ME and, now, with the controversial decisions made for DA2, I can't honestly say that I do 'like' all of you, and I'm sure the reverse is true in some cases. And perhaps some of those hard-feelings would not be there if those communications were in-person rather than on the web. It's easy to mis-communicate in text.
I have to confess to having been extremely offended when some people started seemingly dismissing strongly-felt opinions (of mine and others) on the grounds of poorly-supported tautologies like 'confirmation bias'. That felt extremely disrespectful to me. And perceptions from some pre and post-release interviews only reinforced the idea that some of you were not treating our opinions as valid, or reasoned. Change is too much for us. The steps of denial. I could go on. Perhaps I am taking some of that snarky/PR-speak/choices too personally. I dunno.
Nonetheless, I can honestly say that I do /respect/ all of you, though. And as a group, I do like you still.
I am just not sure whether there's anything for me to look forward to from you guys any more. I hope so. But my confidence is not what it once was. In retrospect, I should not have bought DA2. I had a few concerns, but I went ahead on the strength that you guys had never let me down before. I feel burned. But I can say that some of the dev posts in this thread are doing some to repair things in how I feel towards you all. So, for what it's worth, I appreciate that. Thanks

Hawke was not really a preset character. Yes you are only a human but you can still write your own past and childhood for her/him, change there class and have more controll over them then other preset characters then say like Geralt.element eater wrote...

Also just like the Warden you have a familly that was already chosen for you, a last name and a pre-made past to get you started in the game but with enough gaps to fill in. Hawke only lacks the race selection the Warden had.

Yes, i was mainly looking at the "it wouldn't make sense from the story viewpoint" angle here. I get the technical issues you may have with the staging, otherwise.Mike Laidlaw wrote...
There is a very big difference between the way the game handles banter and the way the game handles a "full" staged conversation. There are technical reasons why this, while not impossible (few things are in video games), is not very feasible.
I find it prefereable actually to hear no rather than non-commital answer with no real intention to follow up on that, so that honesty is appreciatedSo, to be direct: No, you will not be able to have full dialogs with your followers on the road. I completely understand why it's a desired feature, but it is not one we will be pursuing.
(Yes, the danger of an honest and open dialog with developers is that they sometimes say no. Sorry!)

What about this that I posted in another thread:
No more living statues in our house. Once they move in allow us to do minor chats or give a hug or something. The Legacy statue talks more than they do after quests are finished.
That reminds me...
Yes I'm still miffed Anders had no end game kiss. We are all going to die...and I get maker willing/win speech.

People seemed to dislike it when we did something similar in KotOR. While they liked the dialogues themselves, usually they were on the way somewhere adn got frustrated with having to stop and engage in conversation whenever Bastila was feeling chatty. Multiply that by the two or three you have in your party, and you can see how some folks might not enjoy having their adventure stopped now and again by one's followers.
It breaks up the flow of the game, I think, when that happens. I liked it in KotOR because it was different than what we'd done for NWN, but these days, I think it would feel intrusive, like we were trying to force feed you character stories or dialogue.
Yes I suppose it broke up the flow, but it gave livelihood to the characters, even when the conversation would suddenly turn to you for input. Do you cut the conversation short, take a side, or just simply join in?
Oh well, I liked that part of KOTOR. But perhaps more people like followers who stay quiet or wear whatever you tell them to without having a style of their own or a motivation to speak. It's as if they want to tell the companions "Don't bother me while I'm questing, speak only when spoken to! And for Andraste's sake, put this helmet on and don't take it off, unless I decide to talk to you!"
I think it would be interesting to explore a companion who is purposely insubordinate in combat or won't respond the way you want them to (outside of gameplay quirks). Maybe they decide to leave the party during a quest and head back to home base, leaving your party a bit underpowered. Where does the relationship go, and how does it get resolved to the point where you can unlock their full combat and companion potential?
