I think that one of the biggest problems some of us had with ME2, was the lack of much squad armor customization. Going back to ME1's system is practically impossible, considering that the races of the squadmates are much more diverse, not to mention that ME1's system lacks any personality whatsoever.

Personally, I think that applying ME2's Shepard Armor Customization system (slightly altered of course), for all squadmates would solve the problem and be a great addition.

Squadmates and Armor

  • Every main squadmate can unlock up to three different sets of armor during the game.
  • Temporary squadmates that come along for only one mission have no customization
  • Temporary squadmates that remain in your party for a few missions only have one armor set
  •  ]break up to parts[/color] the pattern and color of which is customizable.
  • Armor sets have different stats, that are made of the stats of their parts.
  • Parts from different sets can be used together, making up custom sets.

Options

Type: Types don't work like they do in ME2. Instead of seperating sets from each other, they are just used to set all the parts to the default three choices. When you change a part, the type will change to "Custom".
Helmet,Torso,Legs.
Pattern: Patterns can be researched or earned as loot and apply to all armor sets of a character. That way their personality is retained.
Pattern Color,Material, Tint 1,Tint 2.

Interesting idea. I'd love to see this or something like it in Mass Effect 3.

Wonderful suggestion Phaedon... :)
I approve of this idea, it definitely has potential...

And each character can mantain specific armor sets, so the flavour of an unique look is not lost (like happened in ME1)

honestly...I'd give up unique body models for full cutomized armor (like shepards) for the whole team

Good suggestion, I fully agree with it.

And I like how you even made an image to go with it, haven't seen those since the days of Ecael.

I like. Only I want non-perma squaddies to have some customisation- at least ones who come along for more than one.

I'd be happy they all of the character used armor at all. You have no idea how pleased I was that Liara was actually in a hard-suit for most of LotSB. I really hope that Ashley's catsuit is just her casual appearance, as well. I loved suiting her up in some heavy Ursa armor back in ME1.

Ah yes, I remember her threads... I loved reading them back when I still simply lurked around the forum...
I wonder what happened that made her go away... :(

That's how it works, basically. You can change the pattern of their outfits as well as the color, but you can't change the armor parts.

Not saying it's a bad idea, but I will be happy with 2 alternate apparences besides the main one.

Fully armor customizations it's not nesessary IMHO.

Sounds good to me. I'd be more then pleased with such options.

And as long as I can actually outfit characters to have a space-worthy suit (or better yet they simply default to one during such missions) I'll be happy.

Love it!

My hope for squad customisation has never been about massive, huge, array of items and armour. But having just a few that can be mixed and matched so your squad can play closer to the style of play you want.

So I support this entirely.

I love this, but personally though, I loved ME2 armor for certain squadmates, Jack, Thane, Legion, Samara, Garrus, etc because of the personality it gave each of them. I do like your idea of being able to have different sets for each person, but only if it works with the individuals personality. Though, they really should give each squadmate armor, because it was funny having Jack in her outfit during the Collector Base or out in space for that matter and she's only wearing that belt to cover up her upper body. Though I'm not complaining, I just found it to not make sense.

They should just have 2 outfits for every squadmate. One with armor, and one without. It's really not that hard.

What have you done to Miranda's costume?! :o

But that said, I like your idea, Phaedon. ^_^

Now tell us how to get Bioware to implement your plan. :bandit:

I would love this, but I don't expect ME3's system to be this deep. I'll be happy with story- and environment-related changes to squad armor - i.e., a casual outfit on the Normandy, armor for habitable environments, another set of armor for space, another set for generally hazardous environments, characters changing their look based on events/decisions, etc. As long as they aren't wearing the same thing all the time.

Anyway, real nice job on this Phaedon.

That's where the concept of unique armor parts and patterns focuses on.

You can still have it, this is too expand (RPG elements) and make customization better, no one is forcing you too customize charachters.
