tali would present some problems, but you can add things like the off arm ammo pouches and leg ammo pouch options. Just orient them more towards her tech abilities. but she would be the most limited character in this area. I still think it's a great idea,

I think that one of the biggest problems some of us had with ME2, was the lack of much squad armor customization. Going back to ME1's system is practically impossible, considering that the races of the squadmates are much more diverse, not to mention that ME1's system lacks any personality whatsoever.
Personally, I think that applying ME2's Shepard Armor Customization system (slightly altered of course), for all squadmates would solve the problem and be a great addition.
Squadmates and Armour
- Every main squadmate can unlock up to three different sets of armor during the game.
- Temporary squadmates that come along for only one mission have no customization
- Temporary squadmates that remain in your party for a few missions only have one armor set
- Every armor set (just like the N7 one and the Kestrel set) break up to parts the pattern and color of which is customizable.
- Armor sets have different stats, that are made of the stats of their parts.
- Parts from different sets can be used together, making up custom sets.
Options
Type: Types don't work like they do in ME2. Instead of seperating sets from each other, they are just used to set all the parts to the default three choices. When you change a part, the type will change to "Custom".
Helmet,Torso,Legs.
Pattern: Patterns can be researched or earned as loot and apply to all armor sets of a character. That way their personality is retained.
Pattern Color,Material, Tint 1,Tint 2.
Here you go, have a terrible concept at thee:
Picture isn't bad, beautifally illustrates the proof of concept. I like the idea, it makes Mass Effect more of an RPG. It should be implemented but I hope that the clothes go together. Would be a lot of work though. What about Squad mates getting casual wear? Two outfit options? I figure Shepard isn't the only one who doesn't walk around in full armor all the time.

This... no reason to go backwards in this case. Any time-consuming endeavors should be left for customizing Shepard's armor and weapons, and possibly the Normandy. Give us more alternate outfits (not dlc)... fine. Add statistics or properties of some sort to the alternate outfits... fine. Have me go through each limb of every party member to decide what is optimal armor config is a timesink and huge detraction from the game. The extent of Shepard's involvement in what squadmates wear should be minimal.RinpocheSchnozberry wrote...
Do Not Want.
I want to customize my Shepard. Everyone else can just have their own armor. This doesn't seem any different than picking greaves and pauldrons. I'd rather each companion have a role they're good at, than be given the ability to shoehorn them into a role they'll be B-team at.
Waste of time for BioWare to hammer this into a game that doesn't need it. They should just refine ME2's system, it's damn near perfect. No need to backslide.

Drell have slimer and longer bodies. Anyway, I did say that that would only be correct if you go with the scientific definition of humanoid, because these species are not human-like at all. Krogan, turians, drell, salarians, etc. wouldn't be able to wear those outfits.Oh and just for the sake of contributing something to the thread other than advice to others, you two DO realise that every spaceflight species is humanoid ?(Aside from that one Biotic God cutscene we haven't seen Volus, Hanar or Elcor fight ........- as much as we want them to)
Batarians originally were meant to be much different and have ears (similar to Lombaxes from Ratchet and Clank) but they were scaled down to fit on a human skeleton.
Last time I checked Batarians, Humans and Asari can all wear the same stuff, I know the argument of, say, Liara being different to kaidan but then compare her outline to Ashley, Kasumi or Miranda and aside from a few details the general outline is the same.
All of the other species are unique unless I've missed any and Last time I checked Thane was roughly the same size and height as my Shepard though I'll get back to you on that Phaedon.
And even so, not even humans and asari have the same body types.
It's an interesting proposition.Kabanya101 wrote...

I concieved this same idea about one-two months ago on another thread about aromor/customization of squad mates.
Except mine was slightly different. My idea was that each character had 5 outfits, two for the ship, and three for armor.
Shepard had like six outfits to wear on the ship, so the squadmates would have two. One to show off their individual personalities, like in ME2 before loyalty quests, and another that could be customized, colors, designs, ect.
Then for the armor, I had the same thing were they would get three suits of armor that would break up and swap with each other. But it would be sort of like ME1, where one would be a light, medium, a heavy armor plating outfit. Remind you, that heavy armor plating for someone like Tali, wouldn't be like the Colossal armor, just her basic suit, but with thicker chest, arm, and leg plating. And yes, you would be able to customize it, just like Shepard's in ME2.
Each piece of the armor would add up into individual stats/bonuses. And they would be:
Movement: How fast to move through cover
Protection: The amount of damage taken to health
Shield/Biotic strength: How strong shields are
Power Strength: Increase power damage
Power Recharge: How fast powers recharge
Weapon Damage: Increase in weapon damage
My system is slightly different and more in depth, but mostly the same as yours. You could always try to propose the customization system to Bioware, or see if one of the Moderators could talk to some of the developers about it, I bet they have connections. Because either one of our ideas would be great. Or at least I would think so.
I would gladly add your quote to the OP if it's all right for you.

This part sounds good. But I would like them to be parts like shep's was in 2 so I can mix and match how they look. I would also like armor for my squadmates to be really original and unique from the one they start the game with. For instance in ME Tali's purple suit only got recolored so her phoenix one was the same suit but only in red and white which I hated. I would rather her suit change completely the pattern used and some wouldn't even have the wrapping fabric others might have a new wrap fabric moving around it. I want them to be very different from one another and I'd like to choose my own colors on them so if I want everyone to be orange and black I could have that choice or keep them their original colors. If shep is going to have patterns I want my squad to also have patterns as well.

I can see some problems with the system as suggested by the OP though. One being that if you broke a costume down into slots (chest, lower and upper arms, shoulders, thighs, shins, etc.) you would then need to ensure that all pieces for all costumes fit together without clipping - this could conceivably end up with all pieces looking rather generic, similarly shaped and so on.
Personally, I would be happy with non-combat apparel worn in safe locations such as the Normandy or the Citadel, and a combat spacesuit option that comes with a toggled space helmet.

Or lack of armor period. Besides Shepard, Garrus and Tali were the only two squadies to have fully sealed anything. At least Grunt and Zaeed wore actual armor but they still had exposed skin. Everyone else literally wore cloth, or latex, or nipple straps.
