LOTR The third reich. Oh, the third age I mean.
I was doing my best/most disappointing list in the other thread when this game struck me! I had tucked it away in
a dark corner of the burned out slum favelas of my mind. I had to make a hate thread to get it out of my system :happy:

LOTR The third age must be one of the worst games ever considering the potential!

I mean if you have the LOTR license and are suppoed to make an RPG, that's like having the Star Wars license for an RPG! Bioware got the SW license and made KOTOR! One of the best RPG's ever IMO (and by the looks of it in the opinion of most of this communiy)!

EA got the LOTR license and screwed it up. Actually f*cked it up totally would be a more factual term.

Where Bioware went with a story that was a new era of the SW universe (brilliant) EA took the LOTR original story to follow. That could've been ok, if done right. I mean they really should've taken the universe and done a fresh story, it could've been a classic, but the main LOTR story is great so it coulve been a good game, with some good game adaptation writing.

Anyway, they made the heroes party and the story "the other fellowship who follows the real fellowship through the same areas as the real fellowship, only a little bit later".  No I'm not kidding. That is indeed the plot.
Seriously, that's the worst concept. Ever. Police School 6 is an academy award winner in comparisson.

On top of that there wasn't even exploration. The world design was extremely confined and narrow, no towns, no inns, no character interaction. Just random strategy RPG combat along a totally linear path. 

Gah...  God I hate that game. Hate it with a passion (thats probably some kind of step in some kind of rehabilitation program). Well it was good to finally get it out my system. That part of me is now cleansed.

If anyone else was stupid enough to play the game (or, God forbid, even buy it) feel free to let out your demons in this thread.

Manic hateful rants about other games are ok too.

Argh....WHY? Why would you remind me of this horrid game? I was trying to forget that I was dumb enough to buy it.

At first it was alright, but it soon devolved into me just wanting to beat the d*mn thing, and never think about it again. But then I got to Helm's Deep and the 2-3 boss battles in a row, with no chance to heal in between, and that was the breaking point; I gave up and went back to my PC and REAL rpgs like KoTOR, NWN, and V:TM-Bloodlines.

Truly, that game gave new meaning to the word "disappointment"

I sadly played both The Third Age and Conquest. They are both pieces of garbage.

Thankfully, I missed out on The Third Age, but I remember being a bit horrified by the previews. EA at least had some redemption in the form of the BfME series and the RotK game. Vivendi Universal is the studio I absolutely cannot forgive for their handling of the source material. Someone's going to slap me for reminding them of these, but have any of you played The War of the Ring, or—heaven forbid—The Hobbit? Truly, LotR has been sorely abused over the years. ;__;
