Anyone else already upset about the Mass Effect movie?

Make Chuck Norris Commander Shepard, Mr.T Sovereign and add some "I pity the fool ..." into Sovereigns gloating on Virmire and finally Tim Curry with bad masking as Saren. Get Weird Al Yankovic as compositor for the movie score and Jason Statham as Wrex and make it an over-the-top parody on Mass Effect 1.
Everything beneath that level of insanity is not worth the time watching that thing.

On board with the idea or not, it's pretty dramatic and childish to be "upset" about a movie. It's just a movie.
I think the fans see themselves as defenders of integrity.
We just don't want another video game movie to add to this list. http://www.rottentom..._adaptations/1/
Not one of these movies lives up to legacy of the game. Not one. Why should I be happy for another video game adaptation. They have all sucked. FCW isn't defined clearly. Mass Effect revelation is a decent novel. They problably stand a better chance than a lobotomy of the game. If you can't do the game justice, just leave it alone.
Lets not resort to name calling. It is Hollywood who is on trial not Mass Effect fans. Remember we love the same things. The track record says you are being too optimistic about this movie venture. Truth is I wish I could share your hope but the game will most likely be going under the knife and even worse under the pen.

movie will be a completely new story, but with focus on male Shepard. No choice system in narrative, obviously...
I can already hear the fans charging with flaming swords...

I actually consider the first Mortal Kombat to be a OK movie.
I even liked the Super Mario movie (given what it was based on...)

I've said it before andI'll say it again. the first contact war was a short lived war resolved diplomatically. IT WILL NOT MAKE A GOOD MOVIE.SandTrout wrote...
I agree, which is why I am a supporter of it pertaining to the First Contact War, as opposed to ME1, as current interviews state.HomelessGal wrote...
A movie that tells the beginning of the story will have wider appeal than one that requires you to play three video games to fully appreciate.

Can't say I like that decision very much.

You wrote so much without answering the question, it's amazing. Show me where you overthrew the argument posed, apart from moving possible personal experiences forward as viable reasons to cater movies to fans/not base them on established storylines...
I'm not saying FCW wouldn't be interesting, personally, I'd have even preferred it that way, but I'll be damned if I'll complain about an ME1 movie where Shepard is a polar opposite of mine in terms of morality, appearance, gender, romantic involvements etc. I won't even care.
And, if I won't care, but you, for whatever reasons, will, how is your outlook more... important or correct than mine?
My opinion isn't any more important then anyone else's. Though I still think it's worth voicing. The way I see it if I don't like the way something is turning out it is my obligation to speak against it. Even should the outcome be unavoidable at least I tried. I don't care if million people agree with me or no one does, I'll speak my mind either way.
I explained why I care. Perhaps you find it trivial, though if the movie is so unimportant to you either way why post a rebuttal to those who take issue?

It's certainly not gonna help that they can't even manage to spell 'Shepard' correctly in their FAQ.

Fans of "something new" can officially shut-up now, but instead what we now have is what seems to an "Out of Canon" movie that will not relate in anyway to the games and books. So despite Mass Effect having a great story, they're not going to use any of it and they're just going to go the classic "Videogame to Movie" route and just use the setting and main character.
Good job, Casey. Way to let the series get sold out.

The best thing about that is that its a new story.
I guess we can look forward to Commander Shepard's Excellent Adventure. Somehow I doubt it's going to be so much a new story so much as them shamelessly warping ME1 into a 2 hour movie and as a result is similar but rather different. Oh that'll be good...
What I don't get is why does the movie have to be about Shepard? Surely you could still make a good movie with another character. Shepard can't always be the poster boy for the series.
I dunno this might be okay though if it takes place outside of the games. If the movie is say depicting Shepard's early background (like how he joined the Alliance and survived Akuze) then I'm alright with it because then it is merely exposition on events we know little about nor has anyone experienced via the game.

2. A movie that features Shepard and the events of the games, completely contradicts the whole theme of the Mass Effect Series. The series is about choice and how you the player make the story progress. There is no official canon and there never can be because everyone's playthrough is different. You could say the movie is just another take on the story but it's not that simple. The majority of people are gonna take it as canon. A movie about Shepard and the events of the first game will actually do harm to the game.
So, a lot of people actually think the non-comic book readers should not go see movies based on comic books.
This is what you sound like.

A completely new story, but still focusing on a male Shepard? I'm interested in seeing where they go with this, especially after the way that the writer said that they're focusing on the first game in the SDCC panel.

Oh, calm down; the movie was going to be 'Out of Canon' regardless of what happened. Can we at least wait until we actually know anything concrete about the movie before we start tossing out the 'YOU SOLD OUT!' chant?

Yes, a major production company gave a sh!t about a few upset people on the internet. I'm sure that's how they make all their decisions.

If you like the Mortal Kombat movie get your hands on Chinese Super Ninja. This is a Shaw Brothers classic. Mortal Kombat is the best of the bunch but the film was PG-13.
