Oki first off, this is not a rant about how godly I am or anything similar, this is a rant about a common trend within the gaming industry that I find disturbing.

First off a short presentation.
I am an avid gamer of +25 yrs age, I also a real geek and numbercruncher and I love to fiddle with tactics etc in the DragonAge games. My problem comes with the fact that I enjoy computer games that are really really hard to master. A few of us look back on The Last Ninja and that damn stream with fondness, the same ppl who played through the BG serie in LAN (so you couldn't paus).
I really enjoyed DA:O and the fact that it was fairly difficult, atleast when you removed the paus function. But then with every DLC it got more and more easy.

Now enter DA:2.
I will not comment on the recycled enviroments and so, plenty have been said about it. I will just add that I really don't give a crap about the story, I just want a challenge.

I have played through DA:2 a number of times, using every thinkable setup of companions and abilities. The most fun, altho not very hard, was a playthrough as Spirithealer when I was forbidden to pause the game nor any manual control of any companion, using only tactics. I have gone throu as 3x rogue + Fenris or as 3xMage + Rogue, the standard Tank/Healer + DPS setup. They all turn dull around halfway through Chapter2.

*Legacy*
I heard that Legacy had a hard last boss. I was thrilled, until I met him.
Avoid Fire - Kill Triggers
Rince repeat.
Not standing in fire have been kinda hardcoded in most gamers brain for the last 7 years or so...

*The Rant*
So here comes the question, why can't the developers make a setting for them of us who likes to crunch numbers and test stupid stuff out in absurdum. I am not saying that they should change the overall setting of difficulty, if ppl still wanna play on Casual I am fine with that. But why is there no "You are gonna wipe" setting?
Why is there no The Last Ninja stream in any games nowadays?
Or if anyone remembers the classic DungeonMaster by FTL games? We spent litterally days trying to pen down the dungeons on your paper and we wiped .. jesus did we wipe. I think it took me a month or so finally get thru the last level just to be unable to kill the last encounter. How often do you hear that nowadays?

So please, explain to me why we can't see games today with some real challenges? Do the developers feel that todays gamers are to casual to put the real effort into completing the game? Looking at the MMO-scene atleast I would strongly agree, but in a single player game there is no reason to why not have a really hard setting for the few stupid of us who wanna be challenged.

I will end this with a quote from Viper that even if it concerns MMO's sums up my point:

"We fully understand that games need to appeal to the masses, we know where the money comes from. BUT, if you are a [...] gamer and have played for several years, you stop wondering at the little flowers , the beautifull scenery, the cool graphics, shaders and the ever increasing amount of polygons - you simply begin your own pilgrimage in the search of where the F... is the game ?"

I didn't read everything but it seems you're complaining that the game isn't hard enough. Try making challenges for yourself, like playing through solo... I agree that the game is a joke with a party. But as it stands, Bioware has stated that only 1-2% of people play on Nightmare to begin with. So you're up ****'s creek without a paddle to start complaining about it.
