what is so comparable between wtcher and jade empire fighting system? In jade empire you choose style of your attacks roll and block. In tw2 you use light and strong attack , block , use magical signs , traps , bombs , roll , use special abilities (group finishers and potions. So i can't exactly see your point

Jade Empire has in common with The Witcher 2:

Light and strong attack (On the PC they're even bound to the exact same buttons)
Block
Magical signs (they are the ranged magic attacks)
Roll (the animations are far more stylized but they accomplish the same thing)
Special Abilities (typically each style has an AOE)
Bullet time (Potion in TW2, Focus mode in JE)
A very similar targeting system

It doesn't have:

Traps
Bombs

However it does have, in addition:

Various styles
Changing forms (such as Golems or monsters)
Companions that can either be attack/support

Basic attacks are not that fast......

If anything the basic attack animation in DAO was more unrelistic in DAO because great swords are not that heavy.

Origins' animations were painfully slow; DA2's were painfully fast in my opinion.

I was just hoping for some kind of balance.

magical signs are styles in jade empire ... something different
special abilities are not working in the same way in tw2 so...
targeting system in jade empire was better
bullet from a (one correct) potion is not the same like focus mode
I forget the strong attack from jade empire ( didn't play it for a while)

Actually the great swords are THAT heavy so dao had more realistic animations (at least those swords that were in dao big wide ones) that it's boring to watch a character swinging his sword slowly is not really an argument really.

Exactly. Watching Sten swinging Asla (or other smaller zweihanders) was just painful. Posted Image

They accomplish what is effectively the same purpose.  Their implementation isn't precisely the same, I realize.

Didn't say it was an exact copy, but it is pretty damn close.

nor would someone rear back like  they did before the swing   like they did in DA:O  making themselves that unbalanced in combat would get them killed quickly esp. by a  Rogue.

Yeah, I was using hyperbole because I wanted to make a strong point that Jade Empire and TW2 aren't just vaguely similar, they're very similar.

Alright, I suppose I can agree with that. The long swords weren't that bad. But only a superhuman juggernaut would be able to carry greatswords that big.

These guys totally look like superhuman juggernauts.

Thank you! I post that video so much and get barely any acknowledgement that it's not that hard! Especially when the guy does the equivalent to a Sunder Armor technique like 4 times in a row later on!

Thanks you  Hooray - now  hopeful this   should  shut  down that whole  "Unrealistic" sword   debate.

Trust me, it won't. When I first found that video I immediately went to the thread I was in that talked about the greatswords and posted it. And since then I've posted that video so many times on the BSN, but people still insist on saying the animations are unrealistic.

No, they aren't. Have you read any of the posts in this thread? The videos that show real people using real greatswords?

Well that they are somewhat similiar isn't sth bad. I greatly enjoyed Jade empire (climat) (jade master difficulty FTW)

Was that Bartrand in the video? I wondered what happened to him after Varric took him away...

Don't remember. This was like 2-3 months back, but every time I see a post about it I post that video in the hopes that people will realize the actual weight of the weapons. Reason why I didn't here is because I didn't even see people mentioning the speed until hooray posted the video I used so much.

It seems to have been realized by a very small group of people.

The animations are incredibly realistic. The fact that Carver says "I'm... getting tired...." and doesn't swing at a slower pace when his stamina is gone isn't.

Sword in thisvideo is nowhere near as big and wide as those in dao da2 ( bad design of the sword)

the problem with DA swords is their width, not their length or their weight. You look at the Chasind Flatblade on Sten and tell me that it's realistic for him to swing it at that pace.

Might of the Sten is as wide as they should be maximum.

This. The length and weight (at least DA2 wise) of two-handers are at the extremes of real-life swords but still within the bounds.

If they were so heavy as to actually be swung at the speed they were in DA:O they'd be utterly ineffective as actual weapons.

The swords are designed larger for modeling/animation reasons. The hilts are lengthened to accomodate the fact that all 2handers use the same animation. The blades are wider to allow for different designs beyond color and small shape differences. For the most part, the blades really aren't that much longer than those of actual greatswords. In real life, greatswords weighed between five pounds and, at most, eight.

Exatcly swrods in dao are really wide( making them useless in real life)
The swords in dao are really much wider so i think they can even have more than 20 pounds ( which is really heavy)

Sigh.

Apparently, if people really want to believe something, no amount of evidence to the contrary will convince them otherwise.

As I have said, their width is a capitulation in design to allow the weapons to have a larger variety. It is not indicative of what the weight of the weapon should be, nor of how it would effect movement in combat. If all of the greatswords were only six or so inches wide, they would all pretty much look the same.

That's not my point. the swords they are using are really heavy so the combat animation is closer to truth than in da2
