Here's an idea for the ME MMO. Make it leveless. The Secret World is going to make a (very solid, IMO) attempt at a character level free MMO design, so I wonder if we might be able to take some cues from that.

For character progression, we are dependent on 'phat lewts' to increase the potential versatility of of the character, but not necessarily the raw overall power. Different armor has advantages and disadvantages compared to others, but we avoid the 'Colossus VIII-X' layout, we just have 'Colossus' armor that has better damage reduction, but less protection from biotic and tech powers than 'Ursa' armor. Note that these armor names are simply placeholders that I could think of off the top of my head. You could adjust your character to your playstyle by selecting different weapons, amps, and omni-tools that match the roll that you want to play in the game.

The reason that I bring this up is that I despise grinding in an MMO. I'd rather be able and motivated to explore and/or expand my influence than collect the left thumbs of Batarian Pirates all day.

Again, I expect to be an odd-man-out here, but what the hey.

Stagger both and move on. :P

How about a flashbang effect for anyone close by as well?
Could actually work out to be a legitimate squad tactic if surrounded by superior numbers. :devil:

That's another game that's potentially very interesting. Do you know if Ragnar Tornquist is still the lead designer? He was the original lead designer of Anarchy Online, which is a brilliant and underrated sci-fi MMO.

Yeah, that was very interesting consept "The Secret World" they had in there for MMO and actually trying to do few stuff different than most. How ever, in end it seem they also fall same what everyone else does. I still hope they will pull of something new.

It's actually still alive and apparently still turning a profit, since they have a team still developing content for it. It just had its 10 year birthday.

Yeah, Anarchy Online and Ultima Online where one of those few old great ones. Still running and kicking after 10 years..

@marshalleck,

Yep, Ragnar is still the main target of the forum stalkers of TSW. Also, while recent reveals have given the implication that their current target is a noticeably lower bar than was initially set, they are still on-track to create an MMO that will not be another EQ clone.

MMORPGTPSRTS set in Mass Effect IP with ability to import your ME3 Shepard while playing diffrent character as Human( Male and Female), Turian( Male and Female), Asari( Female only), Salarian( Male only), Quarian( Male and Female), Drell( Male and Female), Krogan( Male and Female) & Geth and I would even pay monthly fee.

Same here.
If not some sort of MMO what would you guys like to see done with the ME IP? I like the mmo idea and maybe a single player with multiplayer set as maybe a preque.

Altought the ME universe gives alot of options to work with in MMO and I admit it would be fun to make your own Quarian or Turian avatars, but as said here before, the best things of current ME trilogy is the great story, friendships and romances, dialog and choices that affect in the world. Period.

So I would love to see new single player campaigns and stories made in ME universe.

Which is why I support a leveless design that would promote RP and involvement in the universe rather than an XP grind.

A while back, I actually got sucked into NWN2 RP multiplayer. The game was very interesting and people were coming up with intricate storylines and romances without DM intervention, though the DMs would also hold events of their own. The only thing that really drove me away was some issues of DM abuse that resulted in my abandonment of a highish level character.

While I do support new single-player campaigns, I think that many people are underestimating the potential of an MMO, if said MMO does not attempt to emulate the EQ clones too much.

Would rather see something in bit smaller scale. Like MMO universe that you could explore with party of friends and have fun times together. Would help the immersion.

I love MMOs ^_^.  I think a mass effect MMO would be pretty awesome, tbh.  Certainly better than a star wars one.

That Star Wars MMORPG was SWG, and it failed when they rebuilt the game from the ground up to be a Star Wars skinned WoW clone. And all other games since 2004 that have been released have been WoW clones.

WoW clones are a good way to bankrupt your company, I agree.

It was dead well before the rebuild.  6 months in,  most of the classes were still either outright broken,  or completely ineffective.  No one wanted to be an Entertainer or a Doctor.  Crafters were leaving in droves because once you were a master,  there wasn't anything to do,  and crafting was like having a second job because you had to put in such a ridiculous amount of work.  Architects were useless once everyone had houses,  Droid Engineers were broken,  and they kept nerfing them in order to make Critter Handlers more powerful...in a setting characterized by droids.

Then there was the "Community leaders" who were behind the scenes compiling faulty data in order to get their classes pushed to the top of the PvP heap,  the Dev's interfaced with them and ignored the community,  so it cheesed off most of the combat classes when the Bounty Hunter advocate was succeeding in skewing the balance.

It was already bleeding people at a (then) fantastic pace.  Which is why the rebuild was done,  to try and save it.

It doesn't work.  Most people don't Roleplay,  they play RPGs,  all that's left in that system is Roleplaying (LARPSing).  LARPSing is a ultra-fringe genre,  I've seen their conventions.  I was at a 300+ person Magic the Gathering tournament,  when there was a LARPS next door,  it had 10 people.

Plus,  MMO's survive by forcing you to grind and using the epitome of "Carrot and Horse" to keep you playing,  without it,  there's nothing to shoot for,  people leave quickly.

MMORPG's,  by their very nature,  are just the purest translation of a PnP system with as many time sinks as possible,  and no consequential story,  in order to keep the mice on the treadmill and shelling out the $20/month.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a massive contraction in the genre,  it's anti-adult due to time requirements,  and the treadmill gets old quickly.

@Gatt9

Your premise for part 2 is flawed due to lack of data. There are examples of MMOs that involve more roleplaying than just Grinding. EvE is one example, though it is admittedly a niche game. CoX also sees a fair amount of RP, and people us the flashback and exemplar systems to participate in lower-level content that they may have missed, even without some incentive of loot or xp. CoX is not a sand-box game, though, so most of the RP occurs during the other aspects (grind) of the game.

I'm amused that you criticize MMORPGs for charging $20 a month (which do this?) and for being "anti-adult" given the tantrum you're throwing here. ^_^

I wish I could be there to watch you have an aneurysm when Bioware announce a Mass Effect MMO.

I'd want an MMO to be kept as far away from the current trilogy as possible. I wouldn't want to see some of Shepards choices made canonical. Other than that, I love the idea. It would be great oppourtunity to develop the other races, and give us the chance to see the galaxy through their eyes.

If the Mass Effect universe lives on beyond the Shepard Trilogy I'd rather we got a Mass Effect IV, with a new hero and new enemies.

But I'd definitely play a Mass Effect MMO.

I agree.

Whether we got an another action RPG or a MMO or RTS, they should jump forward in the timeline a few centuries. The next game should start so long after Shepard's death that the only thing that game needs to make canon is that Shepard defeated the Reapers.
