I know from reading the pre-release stuff for BG2 (wow, that was awhile ago) that they planned to have dead characters come back to life in BG2 (death is often a temporary ailment for the powerful adventurer in the Realms). Even if they've been "chunked" and raising isn't technically possible, but oh well, some things must be done for the plot.
Come to think of it, Imoen kind of got retconned in that she could die and be raised in BG1.
But my question is, do they say anything about it? Do they explain how they were "captured" when they weren't even with you?
Because I'm playing through BG1 to get a save to import, and I'm thinking of having Jaheira enter a staring contest with a basilisk.
Shut. Your. Mouth. Woman.
Chateau Irenicus when importing dead Jaheira/Minsc/Imoen/Khalid?

From what I understand, they tried to find out what characters most players played with, and apparently that was Minsc and Jaheira. Obviously if you didn't even group with them in BG 1 then that's a disconnect, but there wasn't much that the programmers could do about that. There are 25 NPCs I believe that can join your party - no way can they have extended dialog/voice recordings for all 25.

Well yeah, I'm just wondering if they bothered to explain how they got there. Jaheira could say Gorion asked her and Khalid to keep an eye on you no matter what, for example, and they were captured with you. Something similar with Imoen, only her own idea and not Gorion's. Minsc... well, who knows why Minsc does anything?

Well Jaheira when you first meet up with her in the dungeon, if you ask about it nicely, find out that she heard you gone missing went to find you with Khalid. You also find out that Minsc does the same thing with his witch. As you may already know Khalid and D both were slain as they was captured trailing you.
Imoen on the other hand was with you as you was captured.

Hm, I remember Khalid being tortured to death, but not how Dynaheir died. I know that she did, though. It's cute how Minsc picks Aerie to be his new charge.

Dynaheir was killed when Minsc was captured.
Other characters have no knowledge of what you did in BG1. Even if you never went to the friendly arm, Jaheira in BG2 will still be under the impression that you killed Sarevok with her.
The lone exception is Drizz't. If you import with any of his equipment in your inventory, he will be annoyed with you when you meet him in Chapter 6.

I think this gives the impression that the PC has no knowledge of the other characters, either. Actually, when you meet Xzar or Edwin (or others who escape me at the moment), you're given the dialogue options: 1) Don't you remember me? and 2) Aren't you dead? And they have replies to this. True, the "remember me" replies are vague, but they aren't "no, who are you anyway?" And if I remember it right, Viconia is the one who initiates the "remember" dialogue with the PC (even though I played through all of BG1 and never saw her as I never visited the area she is in).

Hah, well, I guess Bioware has come a long way in meticulously keeping track of plot flags. I just wish they could get it to work properly in Dragon Age.

I'd consider saying "remember me!?" from a character you never met in the previous game to be a pretty clear indicator of them not knowing what you did in the previous game.
