Really? We're going to have another geth vs. quarians thread?

Gotta bicker about something; its the BSN!

Surely we could find some new mud to sling at Mac Walters.

Mind telling me why you feel this enmity against Walters? Is it because of ME2's plot holes (which we have all safely decided to save judgment until ME3) or is it because of those comics? :P

Heh. It wasn't even a serious post.

It doesn't say she did it to see how they were made. It just says she performed surgery on them. She could have been like Sid from Toy Story for all we know.

Sid struck me as a very intelligent, curious, and creative child, who was neglected. I feel really bad for him.

His idea of fun was scaring his sister and destorying her toys!

Successfully fusing one toy with another is no simple task.

Killing 11 million to 17 million people is impressive, but that doesn't mean the Holocaust was right.

Your seriously comparing a child experimenting with his toys to the holocaust...

Wow.

You'd be amazed what kind of behaviors kids can develop when they're neglected by their caregivers.

How do you go from Toy Story to the Holocaust? Amazing, BSN.

If you read between the lines, I think most would agree Xen was speaking of "understanding" her toys, and she was comparing the Geth being nothing more alive than her toys. Since Shepard is questioning her "ethical" opinion on it -- that triggers the dialogue.

You're seriously comparing a kid expirmenting with his toys to a woman conspiring to enslave an entire race.

No, we're comparing a kid experimenting on his toys to another kid experimenting on her toys.

Consider what right anything has to exist. Ethically, you can't declare that a species has no right to exist for who or what they are, no matter the circumstances. If you did, you'd make the same mistakes humanity has done in the past with the crusades and spanish inquisition(not sure if i spelled that right). You'd be basically be discrimination a race just because they are and/look different from you, which is an arrogant way of thinking. I have no problems with people for they way they are, but because we're used to one thing, we tend to prefer it that way. Sometimes even discriminating against others for not sharing the same beliefs, ideals, or even color and language as us.

The geth may not have been created like the majority of the races in the series, but they are still capable of thought and free will, just in a different way compared to the rest of the races. The only reason anyone should truly have a reason to fight and eliminater anyone or anything else is if they were an immediate threat to ourselves. That's self defense. And even so, there should be some consideration on anyway to stop them from having any aggression against us in the first place.

The geth work based on logic, and Legion has even announced how the geth only want peace and to be able to exist without anyone interfering in their own right to exist. The ones we've fought before were the heretics who thought differently compared t the rest, and it was resonable to get rid of them since they were an immediate threat since they were working with the reapers, who have shown no signs of peace between any race and are hell bent on destroiny us. So, in real life, all angles should be considered for the best possible outcome for everyone before, during and after an event takes place.

Xen actually does come off as somewhat ill, with the story about dissecting toys possible evidence of disturbed behavior.

Actually it's a sign of a genius mind. It shows that as a child she was extremely curious. Prodigy's often do destroy their toys in an effort to see how they're made.

That's funny I'm pretty sure ripping a toy apart to see its insides is a sign of a sociopath. She's seen even by stanch anti-Geth like Tali as being sick in the head. If you have Legion and Tali agreeing on something than you're clearly out there.

As for the OP question they aren't abominations. Sentience is always an accident. (Trying not to incite a religious debate) Back in the day we were just animals picking flees then over time we became more and more intellegent until one day we woke up and were sentient beings. The same happened to the Geth, I love it how people say that their sentience was an 'accident' or a 'mistake' but guess what all sencience is an accident, we got lucky and woke up that is all it is.

I'm positive it's not. It's a sign of curiosity, nothing more.

Tali is an idiot and Legion has an obvious agenda.

And her toys are no more important to her than the geth. She sees them like their a race of buldozers or tractors; nothing but tools to be used.

Multiculturist nonsense.

The Geth and Quarians fought due to a perceived threat, not due religion or hate or money or control or something along those lines. The Quarians attacked the Geth because they thought the Geth were a threat to them. Indeed, they proved to be.

The Geth and the rest of the galaxy are rather out of touch and it would take more than some hugs, kisses, and cannibus to get them working and fighting side by side. And that's assuming the Heretics are destroyed. And assuming that more geth don't decide to join with the old machines. And so forth.

Hypothetically, how would Xen even repurpose the Geth for her needs?

So the majority of the Quarian people are idiots because they feel the same way about Reager's work?

She is a sociopath because she wants to enslave and in effect destroy an entire sentient specie. Everyone in the Quarian flotilla sees the Geth as sentient because Reager was going to be charged for war crimes and you only get those charges for doing inhumane things to other living things. Xen is in the minority because in ME the Geth are sentient. If you personally feel that they aren't isn't relevent, the Codex says they are so they are period. So her wanting to enslave a sentien specie is monsterous and she is monsterous.

The Council races should have wiped out the Geth when they were massacring the Quarians. It would have saved the galaxy a lot of headaches.

A viral program which rewrites the underlying geth subroutines (and archival programs) so that they become compliant to the quarian leadership.

What the hell are you talking about.

In any case. Xen is not a sociopath, she does not want to enslave a sentient species. Geth are not a sentient species. All they are is glitching computer programs.

FYI: the codex says a lot of things, some of which we the player know are in fact wrong.

I always get this impression with quarians in general.

This is the question that when you ask it doesn't make any sense at all. How in the name of god could the Quarians do what even the Reapers weren't capable of doing without Geth help?

Lets do some history, the Quarians already tried to reprogram the Geth when they first became sentient but they couldn't. Let's think about that they Quarian's at that time had the most advanced tech available to them and had intimate knowledge of the Geth's programing and pretty much everything else about them but they still couldn't reprogram them.

Now we're suppose to believe that the Quarians using old second hand technology on the Geth who have had 300 years to become more advanced is somehow going to work? The Quarians know virtually nothing about the Geth as a whole and they have no real technology to speak of the idea that they would be able to reprogram the Geth for more than a few minutes let alone permanetly is funny to me.

What makes the geth's free will and ability to think for themselves any less important than a human's, or turian's, or quarian's?

I was thinking that, but I don't think she has the support or resources to create or apply the rewriting program. Her views seem to be the minority among the Flotilla.

This is the punishment they get for their crimes.

I suppose if it makes you feel better we could just wipe them out but personally I'd prefer we put them to use.

let see a race of sentient machines that think with logic instead of emotion and therefore cannot do thingsout of hatred only when there's a practical reason, yeah that totally an abomination, not what organics should strive for. Geth are awesome, deal with it.
