i'm posting this here because my pocket plane hasn't approved my profile even though i registered weeks ago.

i'd like a (legal) way to avoid needing the bg2 cd in the cd drive while playing bg tutu so i can listen to audio cds while i play. i seem to recall copying a couple of videos from the diablo 2 cd to my hard drive, thus enabling play without the cd. is there a similar trick for bgtutu?

I think you'd have to re-purchase both games from GOG. Maybe someone who has already purchased from GOG can confirm that Tutu works without media from GOG installs.

Or you could copy the audio cd's to your hard disk which (I think) you are entitled to do for personal use. Appreciate this isn't what you asked but thought it was worth mentioning.

I use a Virtual CD drive with an ISO image of the disk, I never need a CD in my CD drive, hooray!

I use the GOG version games with easy tutu on windows XP... they work fine!
Step 1; go to GOG & pay for & download BG1&2... they cost $10 each.
Step 2; install both games... the defult folder is C:\\programes but I put them in my G: drive... Edit; NO disc required!
Step 3; go here to get the lastest tutu, & install it where ever you like.. see notes.

note 1# both the GOG games are patched already so DON'T use the BG1TOSCGameTextUpdate11.
note 2# If you run windows vista or 7 then you already know that the worse
place to put any program is in the programs folder... go figger?

Any discussion of how to avoid the copy protection (and admitting to using such tools) can get you banned on these forums. After all, this is an official company site. The suggestion to purchase a release that doesn't have DRM (as from GoG) is a legitimate route to go. Other methods would involve means not allowed to be discussed in the public forums.

From the site rules: A person or persons found to discuss such matters may be banned from these forums at the discretion of the staff.

Without GOG you have no legitimate way to play without the BG media. I'll make a 3rd purchase of the games via GOG when cd/dvd drives die (so long as it works on Linux).

My previous suggestion was to copy your music cd's to your hard disk, e.g. in a music folder on the computer and play it back from there. As I said I think that's legitimate use if you own the physical media and don't go sharing it around, in the same way that you can copy and transfer to an iPod etc. It would also save you swapping your music cd's every hour or so.

the first thing i said was that i'm looking for a legal way to play without the cd. i have no wish to do anything that is not allowed or may get me banned. i apologize if i didn't make this clear.

No, it was clear so that wasn't an issue. When you pointed out you didn't want to buy the game again, that left no other options that were "legal", though. Too, there was another comment earlier in the thread indicating a method used to bypass the copy protection, so my point was to make it clear to everyone reading that the discussions aren't allowed on the forums.

Certainly, ripping music to your PC to play is a legitimate way to free up your drive for the game media, as mentioned earlier.

I have bought the game BG1 two times, first BG1, then Tales of The Sword Coast, then the DVD with both BG1 and TotSC. I then bought BG2, then Throne of Bhaal, then I bought the 4-1 pack. And I will buy the games again from GOG since they're guaranteed to work with windows 7 and windows xp...
