so erm... I got the sword very early in the game and its tier 3.... Would it be tier 7 if I waited longer? Cos I'll end up just selling the thing once I find a better sword for Sten.
Sten's cookies... I mean sword! Sten's Sword!

What I meant is - if I got it later in the game (around level 16-20) would it be tier 7?

You could try selling it to a vendor, zoning, then checking the vendor again and maybe it will be tier 7. I didnt bother trying though since the stats are pretty bad.

I found it hilarious when I went all over the map tracking down Sten's beloved sword, expecting it to be this awesome and amazing weapon. Then I finally got it from Dwyn in Redcliffe, only to discover that it was a piece of junk compared to Yusaris, which I had gotten in the Circle Tower hours earlier.

Sten's quest is the hardest companion quest, imo (harder then Morrigan's = killing her dragon-shape-shifting-mother). Actually, on second thought, killing Marjolaine for Leliana's quest was pretty freakin tough!
The sword sucks, but it has 'sentimental value' for Sten

Craig, that only works if the weapon has higher materials available.
The Warden Commander armor goes from Tier 3 to Tier 6 or 7, so it "upgrades". The Cousland's Family Sword is only Tier 2, I believe. Not everything will "upgrade", because not everything has a higher tier version.
