In my past runs I've been roughly at Lv. 18 when facing ol' Archie here... and it ususally is like this

1. RUN
2. Spam Potion
3. HIT
4. Spam Potion
5. RUN


I call in all reserves and whittle that sucker down for a nerve wracking few mins. So what level can you face him and have a clear shot?

In Awakenings I was at Lv. 20 and I feel immortal.....I haven't even died once or a game over yet... in th black marsh at the moment Fade part

I am usually level 23-24 when doing the Archdemon.

18+ is Fine, 23-25 Is best.

Just make sure you have correct gear and such, the most important part of the Archdemon fight is having proper Spirit Damage Resistance (Max 75%) as pretty much all his damage type is Spirit.

Quite a number of items help with this, Notably the Helm Corruption you find on one of the Darkspawn Generals gives +75%.

This item will help your entire party greatly.

This item gives the user +60% Spirit resistance for 180 seconds. (Three minutes) and can be used by any party member that can use items.

Ok I'll try and get slightly higher levels... I suppose doing more sidequests beforehand....

so that's what spirit balm does? I usually sell all the balms....

I know dragons are weak against cold....but where can I pick up some good fire resistant gear?

Yes, as noted above Archie does mostly spirit damage.

Wade&Herren's Drake/Dragonscale armor is for that (in Denerim). Or use fire balms.

I had no idea that was spirit damage...o.o I thought it was fire all this time.... whoops

Oh and what about the high dragon in Haven? The only dragon I killed was Flemeth... now I simply take the lousy key >.>

Regular dragons (such as the Haven one) do fire damage, the Archie does spirit damage (notice how his breath is purple colored).

Yup as Caradoc2000 as stated.

Keep this in mind as well High Dragons(Flemeth and Andratse in Haven)
Deal Fire damage so use fire balms.
They also are highly resistant to Fire damage.
Cold, Elec, Nature, and Spirit damage they are 0% resistant too.

The Archdemon Urthemiel of Beauty
Deals Spirit Damage, use Spirit Balms.
Hes highly resistant to all elemental damage types Except Nature which hes only about 25% resistant too instead of 75%.
Hes not classified as either a Dragon or Darkspawn so effects that do like additional damage to dragons or darkspawn dont work. (Otherwise Yusaris with Silverite runes would murder him)
Also he is susceptible to Petrify and Force Field and Paralysis Explosion.
