I've been thinking of getting this game on steam since its only $10 but I'm having trouble deciding whether to or not. I've only seen the first star wars movie and never really got into the overly-popular series, but I keep hearing overwhelmingly positive reviews for this game and it does have dragon age style combat and im a huge fan of dragon age. So do you guys think I should get this game even though I know nothing about the franchise?
Will a Non-SW fan like this?

It is a good game especially nowadays when it is so cheap. Graphics are outdated and it is not Dragon Age combat-wise (it uses a d20 based system).
Star Wars fans will find it easier to get into as the setting, locations and concepts are instantly familiar*. Nevertheless it has memorable characters and storyline. I'd recommend it.
* Knowledge of the movies is not necessary as it is set in a different era.

depends on what you like in a game.
KOTOR has great rpg mechanics, a good story (with an epic twist), good art, and because it's old it will work on any computer (it even works on my netbook!!!).
Lastly, you can get numerous free mods from Kotorfilefront.com (there is some really awesome stuff there)

KotOR doesn't rely on you knowing anything about the movies before picking it up--especially as the game takes place so many ages before the movies. It's perfectly capable as a stand-alone without any attachment to the Star Wars universe or knowledge of history/characters as it forms the world around you as you play.
Truly worth picking up.

KOTOR is one of the best games I've ever played - and definitely the best Star Wars game I've played. Hell, playing it might actually make you a fan of Star Wars - it's that awesome, truly.
If you haven't played it yet, do so ASAP. You will not regret it.

I'm no fan of Star Wars, and I love Knights of the Old Republic. It's one of my favorite games of all time. Just don't get spoiled!

A little off topic, but if youv only watched the first movie (assuming you mean episode 1) then I am not surprised you didnt get into star wars.
Id advise you watch episode 4 and 5, the origional 2, and see if you feel the same way.
KOTOR however I would say, if you like dragon age and dont mind sci fi, even without any knowledge of star wars, you will still love it.
