It was the first game I'd ever played that had me completely sucked in. The world, the twist, the characters, the music. Oh dear Lord, the music. I actually tended to just start it up and leave the main menu open, just so I could listen to the accompanying theme. ~<3

This is exactly why I can't for the life of me play it more than half an hour consecutively.

Well. That, and their Character Creation system.

Huh. I thought those had gone extinct.

LOL!  I got bored the other day and started up Oblivion again. I had only played through one time.  The world IS great, but all the characters' faces, including NPCs, look like great lumps of greyish cheese with mouths and eyes!!  :P   It always makes me laugh when I see people praising Bethesda's games. Fallout 3 is the same way.  And my characters get so lonely. I played Obivion before DAO so I thought it was greatness at the time. I'm looking forward to Skyrim but not nearly so much as ME3.

So I'm trying some retexturizing mods on Oblivion, but it is waaaaay more difficult to install these mods than the ones in DAO.

I think Bioware is greatness. You can play their games over and over just because (imo anyway) of the warmth you feel towards your companions.

I retextured and it made a hell of an improvement, it's just a case of dropping stuff into an override folder, in most cases. better bodies was the best mod.
I also put one in that stopped the trees floating ......

the DA modder is a fab system, wonder if Skyrim will have a similar system? Probably not

now I have to find a different way to end our DA so that origins will be different. Spouse wants Alistair to be drunk and pathetic because he could have been king. I am going right off my man!

It's all a matter of empathy. I personally can't understand non-empathic people, but somehow I envy them, because I'm the opposite. That's what it makes me share TanyaT's (and the rest of obsessed-by-characters people around here) feelings.

You can call it childish, silly or whatever. Reality takes enough matureness and logical thinking to be faced, so here is fiction to make the balance equal. Sad but true.

I admit to loose interest in Oblvion halfway through. My character had no personalities and no real friends, I just couldn't care.
I admit to obsess over bioware characters as well. I am properly more invested in their well being than I should be in their well being that I should be.

but what do we do now ?

That's my problem too. My answer has been to replay the Mass Effect games. Because I already finished DA2 six times due to extreme obsession.

Chat with spouse. Decided on his wants not mine ...

so we're playing Origins again,

That's really nice your spouse plays too. Mine is partial to shooters, so while he watches me play DA, he keeps taking the controller away from me when I play ME.  It's funny watching him play my F!Shep. I agree with how fun it is to jump off houses in The Elder Scrolls games...and also off the surface of water. I miss that in BW games, but they are so much better than Bethesda in other things. Also, they OWN romance in video games as far as I'm concerned. I never even considered such a possibility until I met Sky so many years ago in Jade Empire. After JE, I became a BioWare fan for life. :D

the mage start is interesting when you know what's to come in DA2, they don't appear to be happy and there's rebellious chat, suicidal chat etc and you meet a young ginger topped Cullen
thanks for listening :)

:o Cullen.<3 Chatting in the tower with him was the highlight of my mage playthrough.

we play on the PC together, we reconfigure the keyboard and he does the mouse and cursor keys while I do the keyboard stuff like the saves/maps etc
We discus tactics as we go

who says gaming's an insular activity!

you liked Cullen? I did too, something about his voice.....

Cool. Hubby and I are resticted to the xbox (our kids stole the PC).

Do I like Cullen? *clears throat* You could say that, I suppose. I've written more fan fiction about his character than any other, and I dedicated an entire DA 1 & 2 playthrough to the imaginary romance in my head with him and F!Hawke. The title of this thread is actually what caught my interest. Obsession...I haz it! :innocent::devil:

Edited to add: About his voice- YES! Greg Ellis is an amazing actor, and his voice work for Cullen (and DA:O Awakening Anders) is heart-stealing. <3

I didn't like his voice work for DAO-A Anders--too slick or something, but for Cullen, awesome!  I got the best mod from Purple Lady's recommended mods that adds a great kiss from him for the mage origin. It's too bad he goes all, "mages aren't real people like you and me!"  in the games.  :crying:

That's a fabulous mod. I watched the modded romance/kiss on youtube. *le sigh* <3

Yes, he clearly needed to be re-educated by falling in love with a mage on several points. It is why fan fiction and fan art is such a necessary outlet for us frustrated Cullen devotees. ;)

I never called it any of those things. I enjoy the characters as much as the next person, but I'm not the type that obsseses. People are different, my friends obsess and Idon't think any less of them,or anyone that does.

I think I've got worse in my old age, I find myself thinking about the books I read all the time, not good if it's Wallander, I'd prefer romance to really disturbing crimes

Yeah - I definately do develop an obsession for the characters, for me its because the story is so captivating, I just really feel for them.
My bf is a power gamer, shooters and the like, thus character development and interaction mean nothing to him and my friends are not gamers so its good to know im not a total freak of nature when I catch myself drifting off and wondering about various characters

I love the Bioware games as well. It is the interaction of pc to the npc which is fun and you can build relationships as well. The thing I miss is that I can't smack around or blow things up when I want to like I can in Elder Scrolls. Because Sister Pectrice needs a good ass whoopin.

Sorry, I didn't mean you called that, but other people.

Never mind. ;)

woke up, husband puts his arm around me and draws me to him:
so where we going with this run through in Origins? will we put Alistair on the throne or do we want to see him sad and drunk in the pub?

who says romance is dead!

Wish fiance shared my love of RPGs. He thinks there's too much NPC chatter in Mount and Blade. Seriously, how did the two of us ever get together?

lol - my bf is exactly the same - he thinks its funny how obsessed I get - 100+ hours with DA and 300+ with elder scrolls. He says he gonna try skyrim,  id love to see him 'power' through that: he didnt even make it to Kirkwall in DA:2

my obsession leads to the VAs too. Going through Origins again, in the Circle as a mage

hey that apprentice is Anders!
Cullen's voice would be great as DA Anders, tugs at the heart strings
and throughout the game I'm going - ooh that's so and so etc etc

Mark looks at me: how on earth can you spot these? I'm not picking them up
So while I think he's obsessed, he ain't as bad as me

yesterday my car played silly buggers, 8.00am today we walked down to the village garage to pick it up and I was talking about why it's always me it the thing breaks down with, spouse with his head obviously in the clouds says:
you know I really wanted to get all the quests done from all angles? I can't, I just can't. I could never have Loghain in the party, for one I could never upset Alistair (and there was me thinking I was the one who loved him!) and there's no way I could side with that **** Meredith or go against the mages.
I love my man

I wonder where our heads will be when we at long last play The Witcher 2 or Skyrim

damn you Bioware.

I've just finished the complete run though, again, played this solidly since April. I'm playing something else, but still thinking about DA

I need to join a DA Anonymous group

never would have considered myself a fangirl until I played Mass Effect and got sucked into all things BioWare.. now I spend too much time reading/posting on the BSN, doing silly fanart and other games are not as much fun as they used to be...

start as a female human mage and flirt with Cullen, he goes all wistful when you meet him again in Kirkwall

Why am I still in here? I am playing something else non Bioware (spouse has hidden NWN!) and the controls of Ego Draconis are all wrong :pinched:

I had to go and start a new game in DA:O just to try and find Anders in the tower. I looked and could not find him. Where is he. Little things like this drive me nuts! I too got the mod that lets your mage kiss Cullen. I also downloaded the Ser Gilmore mod. Maybe I have a thing for redheads. Mmmm... I hope they bring back more talk and romance in DA3. I love Bioware!!
