Rangers also get Set Traps, do not forget that! (I personally find this alone the "breaking point" in the 3.0 Ranger). The Wiz/Ranger/Assassin build that Kail mentions is an really nasty character! I have played more than a few, and they really are nice.

While true, I prefer Rogues as they are also able to recover said traps, and use them against the one that provided them saving a little more gold; more poetic, too.

<peeking around a corner>

Rolo Kipp (the character) has existed for more than 30 years - in D&D 1st, 2nd, Runequest, Paladium, Chivalry & Sorcery, Tunnels & Trolls, Sword's Path Glory, Temple of Apshai, Bard's Tale, Dungeon Master, UO (Beta + up), EQ (beta+u)...

He has always, always been a roguish wizard and always in the ratio of 2 levels (percentage points, whatever) wiz to 1 rogue.

I play him through every system that way and I've played him through every NwN mod I can get that way. I enjoy him (myself?) immensely (to answer the OP).

However, I also run my other old companions through everything:
VP (Dark elf Assassin)(single-class, as much as possible)
Cestus Dei (Dwarven Cleric/alchemist/smith... Artificer!)(single-class, ditto)
Nicholas Gently (Human fighter/"scout") A very sharp character...
Keira Briarmage (Sylvan Druid/wiz)
Skeaver the Reaver (Human berzerko fighter) (single-class. Period.Something broke inside him when a flenser demon ate his family... )
Edit: Blast, almost forgot Lucent Breeze! Human monk. Luce Bree was always a favorite with the ladies fair... something about his incedible stamina, his flowing robes, his dextrous fingers...

IMOHO, there is no better way to learn the weaknesses and strengths of a system than doing a complete run through with diverse characters. And using well-known and beloved characters (except for Skeaver... I mean, really!) really enhances the play.

Little side note: VP and Cestus have been trying to kill each other for decades... Rolo, he kinda likes the lady... She's got spirit.

I like sword+magic combinations, the versatility is just fun. 16bard/14fighter/10rdd with Still spell allows me to haste myself in no-haste servers, apply my own keen edge + gmw, cast a song to increase my AB by 2 and AC by 5. The epic specialisation in a rapier with dev crit is just a small + in comparison to the additional damage and skill bonuses from song + spells.

I also find 29 cleric 10 Torm 1 rogue to be particularly fun STR cleric as a trickery-domain cleric, with the cleric allowing me to cast epic spells, 6 torm levels taken in epic my standard armorskin/prowess/epicwepfocus, and combining the +14 domain boost to simple rogue skill-dumping with the rogue class. Also, 50% concealment helps in melee, and the healing spells of course :D and if it's 16/4 pre-epic, all attack rounds with its usual +20 SpellAB worth of cleric spells. So much versatility, this build can pretty much do anything on any server, aside from ridiculously high ac... just have to settle for moderate ac and ultimate melee prowess :P

...and technically due to cleric domain, the rogue class isn't that OOC for roleplay servers either. Just need to justify why a torm cleric would have trickery as a domain -- which is easier to do when some classes consider it a "divine champion" class instead, allowing you a leniency of deities.

Oh, and on a level 60 server (done via conversations) I have this 18 monk 18 druid 4 barbarian Dragonshaper which uses Improved Stunning Fist X to do 70 DC Stunning fist hits. I call him my Diamond Dragon. The most I've seen people able to crack their fortitude saving throws to is 67 so only thing he fears is pm mages :P Only they can both dispel his naturally decent AB from raw strength and be immune to stunning fist at the same time, evryone else just either gets stunned and floored or dispels me but still gets stunned and floored :D Dragon with stunning fist... it's just so much fun! And the low dragon-claw damage means the other player has to sit there and watch as your dragon chews him up with the occasional extra stunning fist to keep him stunned.

You haven't had true dragon fun till you play a stunning-fist dragon :)

Monk/Wizard/Pale Master. You add magical skills to a fighting class with no armor limitations at all. I like this combo very much.
Being more precise usually: gnome (no one plays them :-)) wizard, pale master then monk

Sorcerer 39 / Paladin 1. :P

I do like to play caster, but generally my favorite is bard/fighter/wm. It might not be the best but it doesn't suck and its fun to play. If im roleplaying, which isnt much nowadays, I like to play bard too.

Nothing is more fun then to play a chaotic evil half orc barbarian/bard that goes on a rampage with a lute when someone refuses to give me tip!

If im playing with PRC I like to go with something that involves either Lich (awesome), Tempest  (cool), True Necromancer (fun), or my absolute favorite, Shifter PnP (more fun then anything else in NWN, after toolset!)

Well... Actually, one of my favorite characters in EQ (Rabid RPer in EQ) was a female gnome fighter who talked (typed) with a lisp... tiny, blond, air-headed and deadly. Took her to lvl 40 without twinking and role-played like crazy (which she was..."Bonthai!!!").

Haven't thought of Vorpal Thnickerthnee in a long time... might have to run her through NwN... :-)

Thankth for the idea, cdeth13

I usually like Fighter/WM/Dwarvern Defenders, also Monk/Druids + dragon form I can get 73 AC with it and some decent AB and damage, except when the dragon can't fit through most doors, and other places in areas. I like the Fighter/WM/Dwarvern Defender since I can get some good DR on it, and I can do some damage. I use that alot on Alestorm Team server since you can get high magic items there, same with both builds actually.

He never knew what hit him!

Hehe...

Man, I miss playing on the Silver Marshes PW, with the PRC...*sigh*

You can't keen edge a rapier in unmodified NWN ;)

I do play gnomes. Con boost, Wiz favored class, free SF illusion, small size boni, offensive training vs reptilians and goblinoids, defensive training vs giants, listen/concentration boni and +2 saves vs mind affecting spells make it a great race to play, especially if one is going wizard. Gnomes rulez!

I hate gnomes. Especially the model for them in NWN. I wish Gazeric the Vandal was here, with his War Tyranisauri, to trample and mampf all gnomes!

Death to gnomes!

Even if you hate them, you gotta admit they are a good race, features wise.

^ What Elhanan said! I prefer my Gnomes ala WoG IP.

I would really, REALLY welcome an alternate Gnome model, btw. The one in NWN makes Gnomes look like a cross between Halflings, Dwarves, and Apes. Those arms...THOSE KNUCKLE-DRAGGING, FRIGGIN' ARMS!! Oh lawrdie!

I take unbelievable pleasure in killing Gnome bosses in NWN. Something about that model that is sooooo aberant.

Try my unofficial patch, I shrinked their arms and shins (ofc not just me, Jezira or someone like that helpe me with it).

Patch also contains kurayrius hands updated to 1.69 (thanks to NWNEnhanced) and plenty of fixed large phenotype models by me.

Arms are well muscled from heavy usage of the MM design, and wielding weapons with both arms; not only one.

My problem in the models are the lack of decent noggins; loathe those hats. I usually choose ones that depict my character as a mini-Hercules Poirot.

I too like Fighter/Rogue/Weapon Master. By taking mostly weapon master levels I end up with a steel plated, fully armored, front line war machine. 12 fighter/25 weapon master/3 rogue is what I usually aim for. Other times I go mostly rogue and get a sneaky deadly assassin character like 14 fighter/7 weapon master/19 rogue.

Ranger/Rogue/Monk goes as well together as the fighter rogue. All three classes complement each other well and make a great sneaky type character. You can make many combinations: 21 ranger/13 rogue/6 monk, 15 ranger/13 rogue/12 monk, 9 ranger/19 rogue/12 monk, etc.

I also enjoy playing Bard/Arcane Archer. Good team support with bard song and I can either cast annoying bard spells or fire arrows during battle. In the end I usually end up with something like 20 Bard/19 Arcane Archer/1 Monk. I throw in a Monk level at the end just because . . .

Paladin/Champion of Torm for killing undead. I go heavy Charisma and mostly Paladin early on. If I get to epic levels I become a CoT and get all the Smite Evil feats I can. One hit wonder this one. 23 paladin/15 champion of torm/2 monk

Cleric or Druid/Monk support caster for healing and offensive spells. Mostly Cleric or Druid, lots of wisdom, and a few monk levels to add that Wisdom to AC; so I can run around in robes in the middle of a battle. Usually aim for something like 38 cleric or druid/2 monk, or 36 cleric or druid/3 monk/1 something else.

Sorcerer/Pale Master is great for hurling fireballs and offensive spells everywhere; while being practically invincible with crit immune and mage buffs. Something like 29 sorcerer/10 pale master/1 whatever.

But out of all of these my favorite is to get an elf with that high-strung evangelist voice set (or something similarly annoying) and play the Bard/Arcane Archer.

My all time favorite combo is, unfortunately, not nwn-vanilla-able :( It is a PRC combo. The good old Cleric/Hospitaler/Heirophant5 combo!

in vanilla, i like the power of cleric26/rdd10/bard4 or pm10 (instead of rdd). Strengthers and dev crit! There is just something ever so sexy about a cleric with access to dev crit. I guess its just the power gamer in me :)
