Hey all.

I was watching my brother doing his first playthrough and he's at the point where he's waiting for the Reaper IFF to finish installing and for the Joker mission to trigger. Does anyone know when this will happen? 

The recent order of quests he's done:
Get the Reaper IFF -> Activate Legion -> Normandy Crash Site -> Legion Loyalty Quest -> Save Crashing Ship

And the Joker mission still hasn't triggered when he talks to the Galaxy Map (e.g. EDI saying that Shepard has to take the shuttle). He's done all the loyalty missions except Zaeed, Overlord, Shadow Broker and Arrival because he wants to do all of these after the Suicide Mission.

Am I remembering wrong? Any ideas how we can get it to happen without doing any of the missions above? D:

It should happen after you complete a mission after doing the Reaper IFF one. It was designed that way so you can do Legion's loyalty mission without losing certain crew members in the process.

He's already completed the Loyalty of Legion and saved the Crashing Ship mission and there was still no notice about whether the IFF was installed or not.

As I recall, after two missions when you go attempt to do the third the mission will trigger, you only get that 'Reaper IFF is nearly installed' message as walking up to the galaxy map when all loyalty and recruitment missions are complete.

Will he be forced to complete the third mission or will it be interrupted (e.g. do you want to complete this mission or does it force you to play as Joker right away)?

Tell him to try using the relay manually. There's a small window in which you can trigger the attack that way. If it doesn't work, do another N7 assignment, and try again.
