I've been on Noveria and upstairs in the bar/lounge where you meet Lorik Quin there's a box/device that you can attempt to hack if you have enough electronics or decryption.  If you complete the mini game it says that security (or something) is disabled for Synethic Insights, I believe.  Yet I tried to go to the elevator, without talking to Lork, and it wouldn't let me use the elevator.  

Anyone know if this is bugged or I am doing something wrong.  I know you can get the pass from Lorik if you agree to get the evidence from his offices, but wondering if there's an alt way to get in there.

Yes, you can get a pass from Anolais by handing him Opold's package. Disabling the security lets you persuade some guards to leave and makes the others unaware of your presence. Allegedly. Last time I tried at least one guard came after me before I attacked.

You can persuade those guards regardless, have done it plenty of times without doing what I mentioned in my original post. As far as making the others unaware I'll check that out when I do a run through with my third and final Shep.

Actually it is to prevent a couple of flying turrets from joining the fight. If you fight the guards and don't kill them fast enough they can activate a couple of the flying turrets to join the fight. IF you haven't seen them then you kill/persuade the guards to prevent it.
