Neither was his look. We all expected tentacles, and it was pretty much the complete opposite.NNC FROSTY wrote...
I'm not sure how to take this voice, I mean I like it but then it wasn't what I had imagined...
I'm going to admit I'm really, really surprised about their choice of voice actor (thinking ethnicity, not the individual) and accent, but it's only positive. I f***ing like having my mind blown.
Plus, how cool isn't it that the masters of the previous cycle who tamed their galaxy and everything in it was a bunch of alien jamaicans? Cool Runnings IN SPACE! They could've gone with arrogant brits, which would have been predictable and boring, and then we get this gem?
Right now, I just want to hear what Cheez has to say about the voice.

I can agree on that, haha no wonder why they were able to sustain such a mass empire without too much inner conflict, they just hot boxed the entire galaxy.

I was expecting something entirely different. Don't get me wrong, its nice that they didn't go with something that would be typical etc but I never thought Prothy would have a Jamaican accent. It seems so strange... it'll probably grow on me.

Isn't that accent more African English, than Jamaican English? I may be wrong, but I'm not getting the rastafari vibe at all.

Why couldn't he be wise AND have an african accent? (for the record, he was never omniscient, that much is obvious from the leaks).Ar7emis wrote...
Pretty direct contrast to Vigil, who was based off Ksad Ishan (another Prothean). I expected a more... omniscient and wise voice, no way did I see Jamaican at all. Ever... :L
I have no desire to pull out the racist card, but geez, man. Unfortunate implications abound.

Agreed, although after having a few more listens to the video his voice has an edge and air about it.

Listen to the voices of characters like Vigil, Yoda, Gandalf, Dumbledore, Shepherd Book, Don Corleone (etc). They're all wise characters and we take them seriously [partly] because of their voice, generally that's what allows us to take them seriously.
Take this scene from LOTR as a prime example of what I'm talking about, could you honestly say you'd still take Gandalf seriously if he had a Jamaican accent? It's nothing personal against Jamaicans, it's not racism, it's just that the voice doesn't fit the sort of character that Javik is.

How the hell does a Jamaican accent not fit the sort of character Javik is?
You DO realize a Jamaican can have his personality and still have an accent right?

That's stereotyping, and it's silly.Ar7emis wrote...

As long as the message is wise, the voice speaking it shouldn't matter.Ar7emis wrote...

Because a galaxy spanning empire could only have one accent or only be taken seriously if it didn't resemble Jamaican in your eyes?
For real people?
North African accent is not Jamaican.
Not all Jamaicans are rastafarians.
Give the stereotyping a rest, it utter BS, and if you don't know that you should.

Now we need to scourtheearthyoutube for his voice actor. I just looked up Dave Fennoy, but it doesn't sound like him.

And can I just add that dear old Rafiki from The Lion King was wise and had an African accent? Because, you know, he's a boss. *is shot*
