@LTiberious: your entire logic is "those civilizations sucked, therefore I did not descend from them"

you understand that our species has been around for ~100,000 to ~200,000 years right? And that there are multiple forms of evidence that point to the validity of the African origin theory. And you know that the word "theory" outside of colloquial terminology does not mean "guess" (that's hypothesis) but means "explanation" i.e. fact, right?

Okay, cultural differences.

I am a bad racist and ****. Irrational and stupid.

Lets get back to prothy.

It's closer to 2 million years if we factor in our earlier stages.

So, when can we get an official confirmation of Prothy's VA. I mean I'm pretty damn sure it's Triple A, but I'd like to hear an interview with what he thinks about his character.

There's prothy hate? O_o But...why?!

1. His species is technically extinct, and some people would rather keep it that way.
2. He's black.

My reactions:
1. Deal with it.  Prothy's awesome.
2. Y'all are racist.  The voice is hot.

He's a prothean, though.  I mean...I don't even...people really shouldn't equate aliens with human analogues.  That's so ethnocentric. Like saying Garrus is equivalent to a "white human" because his scales are lighter, or Nihlus with a "black human" because his scales were darker (and yes, I've had people actually say things like this to me :pinched:).  They're turians.  There is no human analogue; there's only what is relevant within the species.

I guess I can understand why some might be disappointed over BW "reviving" the protheans with Prothy.  You no longer have that mystique about the species and they're more defined now.  I don't feel that way, but I understand it...and really, I don't think it's that big of a deal that they revived *one* prothean, especially considering the level of technology the protheans had.  Is it really that much of a stretch they were able to "store" some members of their species in stasis?

And I'll admit, I don't like Prothy's voice, I don't think that's really a good reason to hate someone (real or not). <.< I can understand not being attracted to it, but hating someone for it? I mean, the voice better be pretty damned obnoxious, and even though I don't care for his voice, it isn't nearly to that degree.  Imho.  But I guess maybe for some it is...dunno.  Bah, whatever, I shouldn't be surprised.  This is the BSN, after all.  Haters gonna hate, trolls are gonna troll, people are gonna flip because they like yellow and BW went with blue, yada yada yada.

I don't get how people can hate Prothy; he's awesome. Then again, I feel that way about the majority of the ME3 squad, and it's not like a single member of the team hasn't had their fair share of hate themselves.

I believe that each squadmate in Mass Effect 2 had their own theme, so I hope that the same applies to Mass Effect 3 and Javik (?) gets his own, interesting theme. Something low with heavy percussion to match his anger would seem appropriate. The Benny Hill theme would also suffice.

@Eradyn

People have actually said that Garrus is like a white human and Nihlus is like a black human? Good grief. Then again, I read someone on here just yesterday saying that "Jacob is disliked because he's black, and the only reason Anderson isn't disliked for the same reason is because he 'acts white'." Not about aliens, but still shows you the kind of illogical thinking some people have going on.

I have to admit, I never had any great opinions about the Protheans built up in my head, so Prothy being alive doesn't really shatter my illusions about anything Prothean. Especially considering that Virgil says it was able to keep multiple people in stasis for a long time. Not 50,000 years, but still, multiple people. Even though it had to shut some of the pods down to preserve the top researchers, we still don't know how many top researchers there were. I think the squad banter suggests there might be hundreds of stasis pods just on that bit of Ilos we see.

That clip is fantastic.

I think this one would be pretty fitting for his theme song.

I've considered a remix of "Vigil" being a good theme too. But the simplicity of Vigil is really what makes it such a standout song, so I'm not sure if that would necessarily work.

It is a huge stretch that they could him alive in stasis for 50,000 years since they could not even keep the Ilos team alive for more then a few centuries.

10 protheans, vs 10k .

+ they were a special (!) project. So the design of the "stasis cell" was specially made for 50k years of hibernation.

Vigil said that he was bearly able to keep the Ilos team alive for a few hundread years which falls very short of 10000 years. Sure one guy could last longer but 50000 years?

Lets put it this way.

Illos was the ISS. Has food, has stuff. Well then a crysis occurs and the astronauts have to go into hibernation mode (less food etc). And there are 100 of them.
Well, they eat less etc. But the crysis is too long and they die, 'cos they werent prepared for that kind of ****.
Tl:dr - Illos was not prepared, resourcewise for stasising the whole colony for many years.

But  Prothy was like... a spaceshuttle specially designed to fly to Alpha centauri (dont remember the book) , and the trip will take 20 years. So what they do? They stockpile food, get more energy etc. To survive it. Because they know (!) their goals in this project.
tl:dr - Prothy's mission was to stasis for 50k years, and then save the world. So he prepared.

Thats pretty much it.  And if you count that Illos had 1k+ people. That lasted for 500 years (to ease the math). Then we have 500k energies.

500k energies/10 people (Prothy was not alone afair)=50k years for 10 people.

I simply ask because I fear the explanation will be a "super battery" that he was able to get even though the Ilos team could have made better use of such a thing. If your society is being destoryed and you invest more in keeping some warrior alive then preserving the knowlede and history of your people something is screwed up.

Ten protheans is a really small amount, maybe 50 or 100 just to have a viable populations.

Man, what a mess this whole leaking/data mining thing has been.  I'd love to hang around here, but there's just too many spoilers making the rounds.

Well, after release expect me to show my face around here more.  I mean, I've already got the layout of a Prothy/FemShep fic in my head, but much as I like it I'm not really willing to spoil the whole game just to get an early start on it.  Though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted.

Here are two possible solutions:

1) If 10,000 Protheans were sustained for 100 years, then 1 Prothean could be sustained for 1,000,000 years.

2) The Citadel has a constant supply of energy due to the Keepers, while the energy systems on Ilos only had a VI system to balance them.

EDIT: You beat me to it, LTiberious!

@ Tesla, most research today says that inoder to have a viable population 160 people is as low as you can go but even that low great care would have to be taken as after just a few generations inbreeding would become unavoidable.

@Dios, it is said there are several hundread pods on Illos which still falls short of 10,000. Even if there were that many all but a handfull had to be shut off most of them likly within the first 100 years

The Asari are based ff the Greek city states and the Turians on the Roman empire. Pretty much says as much in the codex. The Salerians also seem more like the H.R.E. then China.

I've always thought of them as Phoenicians.

----about a post several pages earlier, that "there are big differences between races", etc.: No there aren't; and no, it's not a matter of 'political correctness' either. Strictly speaking there are no distinct human 'race's; there *used* to be a time, when there were several distinct species under the genus '******', roaming the earth (****** Erectus pretty much spread all over the 'old world'). Among these, only a tiny African population (some say as few as 600 people) somehow survived it all; and we are ALL their descendants.
