Something tells me that you are only purchasing the rights to use him as a squad-mate.
Without purchase the character still appears and plays his part but you can't select him in the squad

That would be wonderful! But this would mean that the mission with him couldn't be the one where you discover him in his stasis capsule, cause he has to awake anyway...and I hope that you're purchasing the rights to use him as a squadmate and the rights to play his personal mission...

As far as i can see, he has no plot relevance whatsoever (Except the artifact-mission on Thessia)

I don't think so, seems to have a role in the final mission....and if this is true tha character can't be just DLC, should be in tha game anyway.
So what I'm asking to myself or to Bioware's gods is if the difference between main game and DLC is just having the Prothean in the party or if buying the DLC will give us also a side mission unavailable without purchasing...

One things that irks me still is the fact that if those statues were inusannon, a race that vanished far before the protheans, why are they in the PROTHEAN beacon visions?

This suggests they are more likely one of those races that protheans conquared during their cycle and which eventually started to call themselves "protheans". Why would the beacon show us images of a race that passed along long time ago instead of a race that died in the protheans cycle?

Bioware probably first designed them to be protheans but then did a retcon and provided this story loophole for them.

Yes, seems like they did.

But other options? I want you to meet a British person in Moscow.

I will show you a tophat and KRemlin

The whole vision makes little sense. Why would they show Illos - a top secret research facility with a team of Protheans in stasis - in the vision, when for all they know the Reapers could get their hands on it? I originally thought it as to lead people to Vigil, but then they might as well have but Vigil's message in the beacons in the first place. I guess it could've been to lead people to the Conduit so they can reverse-engineer it, but it gives no indication of that. Which begs the question of why they showed Illos at all.

What the hell, man! He's a Prothean, he has dealing with almost anything in the universe!=]

Ok, without joking, I don't know details and I don't really want to know them, but I've read repeatedly that this character will have a role in the story; I mean, a real one, not like Kasumi or Zaeed. Or well, that's what those guys were assuring...

Didnt Vigil explain this, they send the message out even knewing the dangers, if there were any survivors they wanted them to know of them and have hope. If the survivors didnt get it maybe the races of the next cycle(us) would. They never did anticipate tough that it could also lead an indoctrinated agent of the reapers, like Saren, to them.

@LTiberious: right, we will see then..hope you're wrong, but nothing personal of course, just want him to be an important character.
My favourite one was Legion and they cut him from the permanent team, so in this Prothean are all my hopes!

The vision was meant for a "Prothean mind", for anyone else (who either didn't have the Cipher or wasn't Prothean) it would appear as a mere montage of intense images that didn't make much sense.

Really? Hmmm, that would not be a bad explanation at all.

Except I can't find anything on Google or MassWiki.. if someone could point me at a source, I would be most grateful :)

The Reapers had already retreated - it was centuries after their emergence and the Protheans were basically wiped out/re-purposed as Collectors. There were only, if I recall correctly, a dozen high level Prothean scientists left on Ilos, far too few to maintain a viable population.

So it was an effort to redirect whatever was left of the Protheans in order to save their race from extinction.

Leaked script dialog

Shepard: Several years ago we found a Prothean VI who called itself 'Vigil'. It was on the planet Ilos.
Prothean: During my life, Ilos was only a rumor. It was said we had cities there, built on the ruins of a civilization before us, the Inusannon. If our scientists did have a research facility, whatever they were doing was secret.

As long as it takes for Thessia's sh!t to get wrecked, most likely.

Thank you! :)

Nicely done by Bioware I guess. I'm glad they gave an explanation (even though it's clear those were intended to be the Protheans, but since it's never been officially stated it's okay) instead of just shrugging through the question of the statues.

The real reason the Protheans don't look like the statues on Ilos is that they weren't firmly settled on the design of the Protheans. The Collectors weren't even originally (when they thought them up) going to be transformed Protheans. And when they decided they were going to have a Prothean appear in ME3 they went through a few designs and then decided that they should look similar to Collectors.

All of this information is in the Art of Mass Effect.

If by "rub a hole on Javik", you actually mean "try and flay him alive with her mind", I must concure with Arcian's post.

Which they've basically acknowledged the fact by putting it into the book. There isn't much point in complaining about it... Unless those who do derive satisfaction by doing so :wizard:
