Hmmm... it might be the Reaper weapon in the artbook. 

But a Prothean one would make more sense.

This kind of worries me. I was hoping he was in the game no matter what and that the DLC just put him in your squad.

He will be part of the story, just not a full party member with all the mission dialog.

If the demo is the final build then that hints that he has A LOT of files in the main game. So what if installing the DLC also activates those files (dialog, banter, cut scenes? ect.) that are stored on the disc?

Eden Prime and his "loyalty mission" could be a pretty big chunk of that download. Along with the appearance pack, weapon. This could easily account for the the 600 megabyte download.

This is really my last hope, that the game draws upon additional files within the main game in conjuction with the "From Ashes" to make him fully integral to the story.

Yeah but...this would mean that there are a few files contained in the main game that are locked! And that can be unlocked for free only if you buy CE, if not you've to pay more to gain the access to files which are already in your disc!
Ok, then you( Bioware, I mean) can tell me that the game was complete and then you built in it some more files just to let the DLC be most integral as possible, so the game would be more than complete; and then you could tell me that I can breathe under water or that I can speak with my elbow.

Im not buying all that (maybe the artbook) just to get the rifle. Even if had it in the game, Prothy only uses shotguns and heavy pistols, so there goes all the fun of having Prothy with that weapon.

It's seems like just about everything concerning the prothean is disc locked content. This is like what happened with Gears of War 3, the first 3 DLC's were on the disc, you just had to pay to unlock them. I don't know which is more ridiculous, the fact that developers do this to their fans, or the fact that the fans still end up giving them our money. That said, of course I'll be purchasing the DLC, I'd just prefer it had been left on the disc and available to every customer in the first place.

While I've been disappointed with how Prothy has been handled, I have not become angry. If the files on the main game were there but disregarded then that would give me cause to become upset.

Games like Call of Duty have been putting their DLC (map packs) on their game discs for years. It is nothing new but it is indeed a shame.

600MB seems far too small, especially when you factor in the weapon and alternate appearance pack. Even moreso when you compare this to Lair of the Shadowbroker's 1.5GB size.

It's confirmed these are his only weapons? I thought he would be shotgun/AR like Wrex. Oh well, I'm probably going to basically just have him use shotguns anyway.

Wait, don't get me wrong, I'm really excited for this DLC and not angry; I've bought the CE months ago but even if I wouldn't have done that, I think I'd buy From ashes on day one, with no remorse.
I'm so happy to have the chance to recruit a Prothean; I'm just afraid that he won't be such important as I think he should be and Zaeed nightmares are scaring me.
I also think that complaining for thousands of pages is useless, can't understand why people are unable to be a little polite, even when they have to do some complaints.
So, in the end, I agree with you, 
we hopefully get to see The Prothean playing a larger part than is expected; now I just need to skip to friday and get those pictures and informations about the DLC!
