He's a biotic too.

Calling it, he'll be a sentinel.

The squad needs a Vanguard, though. The squad is already a little tech-heavy as it is.

Yeah,
it sounds more like he's either an Adept or a Vanguard, because he took out like twenty Cerberus troopers just after he came out of stasis.
While probably being unarmed. Man, Protheans are grumpy sleepers.

And it makes sense with the whole mind read thing he's got going.

Not counting Virmire Survivor and DLC character, there are 6 squadmates we know so far from script.

James Vega - Soldier
Tali'Zorah - Engineer
Garrus - Infiltrator
Liara - Adept
Prothy - ???
Spoiler - ???

So logically, one them should be Vanguard while the other Sentinel.

So Prothy can be one of those 2.

It doesn't make any sense for the last squadmate (won't name names if some people somehow still don't know who it is) to have any biotics, though.

The last squadmate after the Prothean can't be a biotic.

Water is the memory of the cosmos. It has been a part of everything, it has remembered everything. It has seen the birth of stars.

Fascinating. That could be billions of years in there.

Even I can't hear that far. But there are traces… life has existed longer than you know. In stranger forms than you know.

You would have discovered this if your ancestors hadn't spent all their time sleeping in caves.

Yes, I've always wondered. What sort of government did you have? What were your religious beliefs? What kind of-

We are dead now. What does it matter?

I'm..sorry. Studying your history has been a lifelong passion of mine.

When I was born, our empire was already at war with the Reapers. The first thing I remember in life was seeing my planet on fire.

Back on *spoiler* it looked like there were other stasis pods. What happened?

Is there something special to you about water?

That's a long time. It could be hundreds of millions of years in there.

There's been a lot of speculation in our time -- what was your civilization like?

Liara here would never forgive me if I didn't ask you this...

What was Prothean civilization like?

Where you came from tells me something about you.

What can you tell us about your own war with the Reapers?

Thank you for talking with me. I never imagined we'd meet a Prothean.

*spoiler*

We were the dominant race of our cycle. We were the rulers of the galaxy.

-My studies indicated you were the only race engaged in space-travel at the time. I always found that curious.

We were one empire composed of many subjects. All eventually called themselves "Prothean".

-They weren't given a choice.

Any could oppose us if they wished. And had they won, they would have ruled. Many tried. None succeeded.

-I had no idea Protheans were so..severe.

It was by necessity. Very early we encountered the dangers posed by machine intelligence. They rebelled against us.

The machines' strength lies in their intelligence. We decided the only way to survive was to surpass their evolution with our own.

In time, we united all organic life within our empire. Every race contributed in the struggle against the machines.

-Did it work?

For awhile. Until the Reapers arrived. Then we understood machines had surpassed us long ago in ways we could never imagine.

Many of the details have been lost. The conflict lasted for centuries.

Those that faced the Reapers in the beginning were long dead when I was born.

There were memory totems though, passed down from soldier to soldier. They gave us fragments of what happened.

During my life, Ilos was only a rumor. It was said we had cities there, built on the ruins of a civilization before us, the Inusannon.

If our scientists did have a research facility, whatever they were doing was secret.

-Yes, Vigil said they wiped all traces of themselves from the records so the Reapers couldn't find them.

More of my people survived then?

Attrition. We fought them system by system, planet by planet, city by city. Millions would die in a day. Billions in a month.

Entire worlds would be sacrificed just to slow the Reapers down. Time they spent harvesting a population was time we could regroup.

Yes. Our own people would be indoctrinated...converted...

...then turned against us. But there was no choice. Mercy is not a weapon -- it is a weakness.

What had been our strength - our empire - became a liability. All races conformed to one doctrine, one strategy.

The Reapers exploited this. Once they found our weaknesses, we could not adapt.

The subserviant races became divided and confused. It was only a matter of time before we all lost.

-I'm happy to say our cycle is different. Most races cooperate, but they still remain unique.

Then it may be your only hope.
*spoiler*

So that's where the word "Prothean" comes from. Very interesting.

I find what's said at the end about diversity being important a bit depressing given that the leaked end solution doesn't have anything to do with that. Ah well, at least Prothy sounds fascinating.

*spoiler*They sensed traces of a vast conflict. But they did not know what was behind it.

The structure of matter itself was damaged, the information weak. The only certainty was war.

It was obvious that peace was an aberration. Extinction was the way of life. The weakest species were doomed.

And when this war is over, it is the Reapers who will be dead.

If the Reapers are busy conquering the weak, they are not keeping their eye on you.

All strategies must be considered, none are too extreme.

(forceful) My mission will not allow mercy, Commander.

You misunderstand me. This is more than a blood feud.

My anger is what sustains me. But this is more than a blood feud, Commander.

I exist because others do not!

Because every form of life that ever had the courage to explore the stars was destroyed by the Reapers!

(lowered voice) Do you know what the water really tells us about the past, Commander?</data>

Nothing. History is a dark void, filled only with echoes -- because the Reapers have silenced every voice who defied them.

You and I…those of us still alive...we are the only voices left.

(quietly) None you would know.

---

Shepard's dialogues:

Then your people must have also detected the Reapers.

And that's where this doctrine came from?

How?

You're saying use them as a distraction?

But how long can vengeance sustain you? If everything you're fighting for is already dead, what is there to live for?

I agree the Reapers need to be destroyed. But you have to be smart about it. Revenge can cloud your judgment.

You said it was your whole reason for existing.

(uncertain) No.

(looking at totem) What about that? What voices are in there?

*spoiler*The empire had fallen and we knew our cycle was lost. We were the final vanguard. The best soldiers still left alive.

So more of you were supposed to survive into this cycle?

Yes. Under my leadership, a new Prothean empire would have arisen.

We would have commanded the races of your time to prepare for the next Reaper invasion.

But traitors within our ranks - indoctrinated agents - betrayed us and the Reapers discovered our plan.

We would have presented ourselves as gods, sent to deliver this cycle from the apocalypse.

Before the war we cultivated speices who showed potential. Eventually you would have been offered a..choice to join the empire.

But when the Reapers attacked we ceased all study. We hoped they would see you as too primitive to harvest.

(thinking) I never saw the Citadel. It was captured long before I was born.

Only the rumors we heard.

It is the memory of the cosmos. It has been a part of everything, it has remembered everything. It has seen the birth of stars.

In my cycle it was as natural as breathing.

Our scientists believed evolution was the only force in the galaxy that mattered. More than electricity, or gravity.

The 'cosmic imperative' they called it. It became our doctrine: the strong would flourish, the weak would perish.

(accusatory) The governments of your cycle seem concerned with ensuring everyone survives.

With our 'talent', as you put it, our scientists would chart the cycles before our own.

They discovered the one constant has been intelligence - be it machine or biologic - fighting to become something more.

But in that anarchy, you would eliminate those who had nothing to offer.

Evolution demands it. It demands the strong grow stronger by dominating the weak. It is for the greater good of all.

(angry) There is still one Prothean left.

They can become a resource of their own.

---

Shepard's dialogues:

Then more of you were to supposed to survive?

Just out of curiosity, how would you have "commanded" us?

We've uncovered Prothean ruins from time to time. It seems you were observing our ancestors.

Is there anything more you can tell us about this device your people were trying to build?

What if it had worked?

I take it water's important to you?

I still can't quite wrap my head around that -- reading information that way.

(impressed) Useful talent. It's amazing what evolution can do.

Was this doctrine just your scientists' opinion, or did they prove something we don't know?

It's the duty of the strong to protect the weak. Otherwise we'd have anarchy. Every race for itself.

So war should be a constant way of life?

Was it for the greater good that your people are all dead now?

Well given how this war's going, we can't afford any weak links. They drain our resources.
*spoilers*

Sounds like our Prothean friend was supposed to be quite the big shot if more of his kind had survived.

Does EDI look Hot? Any description of her looks in the script. I cant tell.

According to Kenneth, Joker and Vega, she's good enough to stare at.

Ah, so Kenneth and Gabby are back eh? If so, good to hear, those two were two of my favorite NPCs from the Ceberus crew.

The crew is much more livelier this time around - a bunch of familiar faces. Others, less so.

There's one part where he describes a machine race that's not so different from the geth that existed during the Prothean cycle that also rebelled on their creators and started to bring trouble.

The Protheans made their sun go supernova.

I hope we can challenge his views. I do not necessarily disagree with him, but I think the weak deserves a chance to become strong before they are left to their fate, which is why I save so many in Mass Effect. Everyone deserves a chance, even if they might not use it well.
