It's true. No rainbows and butterflies. So in that sense I won.

Incorrect.  There is a lone rainbow shining through the darkness, lighting the way to glorious headcanon epilogues.

If anything, the BIOWARE WHAT IS THIS part represents starting over on a blank slate, for the first time determining our own future, no matter how difficult it is or how uncertain things may be.

Props to B-Dubs for avoiding little blue Shepardlings, though.  I think we can collectively agree that you can't get any worse than that.

I do agree with you there. Seeing creepy asari children would have.... just no.

Still, the Prothean's fate doesn't seem as tragic with the endings. I mean, in that case he might as well be marooned anywhere. However I find the idea of being trapped in an alien society with none of your kind around for comfort more compelling.

That's sort of the case here since there aren't any Protheans, but the fact that society won't just move on necessarily somehow undermines it.

Not sure that I'm articulating myself very well here.

I kind of think that people in Bioware want it all to end, thus the endings. However if ME3 makes a lot of money then nothing will stop EA from getting lots and lots of sequels. Nothing.

I just hope they can find a way not to set in stone any specific canon.

Well after 50,000 years after your species was decimated by a bunch of sentient warships, you'd be a little pissed yourself.
But I do get the feeling that this is when the commander first meets the prothean.

Nah, I get it.  The fact that EVERYBODY has to start over from nothing makes him less of a loner.  Which is compelling in its own right, but I get why you'd prefer the other thing.

AND THAT CONCLUDES THE ENDING DISCUSSION.  MOVING ON: JAVIK.

Suddenly, I'm reminded of how Animorphs ended.  Did you ever read those books?  They pretty much defined my pre-teen years.  But when you hit the last book, you could tell the author was like, "screw you guys, I'm done!"

I think the last few books were ghost-written, actually.  Huh.  Don't remember.

I just hope they can find a way not to set in stone any specific canon.

They have two options:

1. Set it WAY WAY WAY in the future.
2. Goof around with the rich lore they already have (rachni wars, Shanxi, etc.)

Well, there is a third option (NOT DOING ANY MORE GAMES), but like you said, EA.

I'm hoping for a side-scrolling 2D shooter a la Metroid with Javik as the protagonist.

Shut up, I can dream.

I personally hope they do a prequel in which you play as a Prothean from the previous cycle.

Yes, but I never finished the series. Though I do know how it ends.

I want them to bring back the tentacle-faced protheans. They had such a cooler design than this hammer-headed doofus we got.

I'm completely serious. The old Prothean design fit much better the concept for the race and their legacy. I knew it was a bad sign when ME2 made the Collectors protheans because they clearly bared no physical resemble to them at all. ME3 brings it full circle and kills the race.

They really should have kept Protheans out of the plot after ME1. It was the perfect send-off for them.

Interesting opinion but it is just that- an opinion. Seeing as collectors WERE in the second game and described as reaperfied Protheans there was a clear precedent. As far as the prothean legacy goes, the statues on Ilos are ambiguous and Bioware admitted so. I fail to see how tentacle faced statuettes fit their race or legacy when we know so little about them. There's my opinion. Keep in mind this is a Javik fan thread and people here have a like for his design.

@Saphra Well, you could always not get From Ashes, or just get it and let Prothy die if you aren't fond of him (but still like getting new outfits and a gun). We, on the other hand, will probably talk to Prothy after every mission, bring him on every mission, and will write awful steamy fanfics about him.

My opinions are worth more than most. So you should meditate on it.

I think you missed the point by about 60,000 light years.

The statues matched the Protheans seen in the visions, so don't give me that crap.

Much as i'd like that skimpy Tali outfit I don't think so.

As for the visions, that could be quite easy to explain away. They could say that the statues were of the species before the Protheans, and they were sending out a message akin to "Hey, you know that ancient race of tenticle faces that died mysteriously fifty thousand years ago? Well, it isn't quite as mysterious anymore, and it's happening again."

You can explain away anything if you try hard enough but I'm not fond of retcons.

I understand why, from a design standpoint, they changed the protheans (because animating tentacles would have eaten up a lot of resources, especially for a throwaway mob) but I would like an explanation of how exactly they went from Davy Jones to praying mantises. Or maybe to be told that they were an art piece, or a statue of their god, or something. As it is, I will enjoy the game, but anytime I play ME1, that will irritate me to no end.

I'm going to be frank when I say you're a tinge more than arrogant Saphra Deden and I don't like you and your condescending attitude.

-The point is nobody here cares that you don't like him or the plot as per the Protheans in the series. All of the regulars do.
-The games are what they are; so sorry you're not a BioWare writer and you clearly think you can do it better, judging by your signature rewrites.
-People here like Javik and his design. Don't buy the DLC if you don't want a Prothean. Simple.

It doesn't really even have to be a retcon. Just tell us how exactly they ended up as bugs, and give us a better view of the original version. I mean, it could be as simple as telling us that a ton of keeper DNA was grafted in to make them more pliable.
