At least Prothy will be interesting judging from Arcian's post.

Well, for one, the VI's technical purpose would be kind of pointless if it only exists to tell about the story of the Protheans in detail and be snarky/arrogant at the same time. There's really no reason to have such a thing when there are other machines that have and can tell such facts without getting a personality in the way.

Like EDI? Or Legion? Or the Reapers?

How about some awesome Batarian?

There's no such thing.

There was no such thing as an awesome Prothean in the previous games either.

Actually Prothy's lines and his relationships with the crew are marvelous.

And its stupid to say that if even Prothy was dead when the eggheads found him - he's dead forevar.

You know we have genetic recounstruction in ME? :)

///

And @Lotion - he's a DLC character. Stupid to rage 'bout that :)[/quote]

It looks kinda like a Turian if you ask me, what with the mouth and fringe. That + Cthulhu mouth and we are simply golden. I love the Ilos statues and the protheans from the beacon images too much to let it go.

I'm thinking the same thing. It looks like a Turian with an extra set of eyes and an aura. No tentacle-mouth or rounded head like the statues that depict them.

Kind of a false label.

You should know that the person who drew that is mainly known for exclusively drawing a plethora of different turians, so it's not even slightly of a surprise to me that turian features have spilled over.

Naturally it won't look like that in-game, but it's still a sweet piece of fanart.

I agree with you that it look like a Turian, but our squadmate doesn't have to be the same as the statues on Ilos. The leak explains why his aspect could be different than the statues on Ilos.

I'd like if P had the same blue color. The design itself has a little too much turian in it, but something along those lines should be just fine.

Well, they could still resemble the statues at Ilos as fit the characteristics fron the script. It could be a middle ground between the statues and the collectors. Like that fan art, but with a Cthulhu mouth. I'm sure that they would keep the only living Prothean in the trilogy as close to being recognizable as possible, while still taking hefty artistic liberties in giving it more bug-like features and still making it unique.

The fact is that if our Prothean isn't like the statues on Ilos, it's unlikely that he'll share some similarities with the statues. He'll be SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

A Prothean, but from a different race than the Protheans on Ilos. They could share some similarities (like the Asari and the Humans) but I don't know if Bioware went in that route.

What makes you so sure? Is there a part within the script that specifically states that he bares no semblance to the Ilos statues?

No. There's no info about his aspect. He could have the same aspect than the statues on  Ilos.
I'm saying that if his aspect is different, he'll be completely different  from the statues in my opinion, because of what I said in my earlier post.

There are reactions to his appearance and new information about Ilos, which is all very cool.

I'll just repost this:

*spoiler*

We were the dominant race of our cycle. We were the rulers of the galaxy.

-My studies indicated you were the only race engaged in space-travel at the time. I always found that curious.

We were one empire composed of many subjects. All eventually called themselves "Prothean".

-They weren't given a choice.

Any could oppose us if they wished. And had they won, they would have ruled. Many tried. None succeeded.

-I had no idea Protheans were so..severe.

It was by necessity. Very early we encountered the dangers posed by machine intelligence. They rebelled against us.

The machines' strength lies in their intelligence. We decided the only way to survive was to surpass their evolution with our own.

In time, we united all organic life within our empire. Every race contributed in the struggle against the machines.

SWM Thanks, i was too lazy to do that :)

But yeah - Fanart is great. Its "Turiany" but great. And i definetly like how it looks.

The whole idea of Batarian>Prothy... Lets be honest... After the story with Batarians, Shep miiight have some issues with letting one cover his back... And by the way - Batarian.

@Guyz who Talk about Prothys looks - he can be whatever they want. But i can bet on him not having those ugly tentacles like the statues from Ilos.
Why? Tentacles dont cope well with his character :)

I would like to clarify that, while its true that the Protheans eventually grew into an empire with many races calling themselves Prothean, there still was an actual Prothean race, and that its fairly safe to assume that Prothy was a part of them; the actual race. Otherwise his dialogue regarding the assimilated races would be completely different; like including the fact that he was a part of such a race, but he doesn't, he specifically refers to the extra races as "They."

That being said, its true that we have no *Proof* that the statues on Ilos are Prothean, some think they're the Inusannon, the race that came before the Protheans, which can be considered, but for now the bearded race is all wer really have to look at.

Oh, and about Bioware's "Space," excuse; as a student at AI (Majoring in game art and design, and looking forward to this new term. Yay for high-poly modeling!) I can safely say that they're right, and they're also dead wrong. I haven't seen anything in Mass Effect that was so massive or intricate that it would stagger anything to put in things like moving hair. Game design is all about cheating; you know that really pretty wall, or column in that level you love? Yeah, its identical to the one next to it, its just been rotated of flipped upside down. We do it all the time. Look at a massive game like Skyrim; all those trees, people, buildings, and ground cover take up SPACE, but they managed. Its all about how you work around you engine's limitations.

Bioware's always been kinda lazy when it comes to building assets for their games (All female human have the same body type, all turians, all salarians etc.) and they still required an extra disk for ME2 so that their textures didn't crash. I don't see what another disk  would hurt. Does no one remember Final Fantasy? IX had FOUR disks, and no one complained.

Holy Christ.

I just read all 37 pages of this thread, because I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it. Is this really happening? Am I dreaming? Will there really be a prothean character, walking and talking and breathing around in the game? Can somebody pinch me?

Holy Christ. I mean, from my perspective, "prothean squadmate" just went from wild speculation to actually a real thing in a matter of minutes. Holy Christ. Seriously, I still can't get past the "Haha, yeah the game will have a prothean squadmate! And a volus stripper too! What are you crazy?" phase.

And you know why? Because I had already assumed this wouldn't happen, despite me wanting it so much. I wanted a prothean so, sooo much, but my rational mind resigned, thinking that they had already done something extraordinary including Legion, that they wouldn't try and actually revive The Last Prothean... But it is happening. Right? This feels like an elaborate hoax or something like that.

Sound too good to be true. Like somebody peeked into my dreams and said "hey, let's do it!" and wrote a character into an already pretty complicated storyline.

DLC or not DLC, I'm getting that guy as soon as it's possible. And good god, am I going to give him so much love!

:crying: These are tears of joy. I don't want to get my hopes too high up, but still...

..... How is ME's story all that complicated?

God Machines kill all advanced life in the galaxy once every 50,000 years. Protheans figured out how to kill them, but were wiped out before they had a chance to try out their idea. Zoom forward a few thousand years, God Machines are back to take care of business, and one man/woman, with a lot of help, recovers the Prothean schematics needed to build the thing to kill them.

See? Leave out the characters and their relationships to Shep and ME's a pretty standard Sci-Fi. But I assumed that most of us here played these games for the Characters anyway. Its not like Metal Gear's story, which almost requires an encyclopedia to go with it.

But, on topic; YAY FOR IAN AS SQUADDIE!
