Personally, I think that Prothean squaddie is too pretty damn big news to be just a DLC char. As the Protheans are supposed to have a larger role in the trilogys finale, he will be probably not the ME2s Legion, but more of ME2s Mordin - fans favorite, cool looking, and central to the plot.
People say he's more like Legion because he's recruited mid to late in the game, you can outright choose not to have him on the Normandy, and he is an absolute novelty that gives insight into the inner workings of a mysterious culture... That nd being awesome and loved by mostly everyone. He isn't exactly central to the plot though.

So I guess you decide whether to bring him back from the dead or leave in his stasis cell, or sth like that. So he is very similar to Legion. You had the choice not to turn him on, or sell him, but in 99.9% games he is woken up.
And I think that he will be central to the plot. Its either him or the Magic of Friendship.

Also, yes the Prothen Empire contained several species, but there was a Central Prothean Species at it's core. It is also heavily implied that Prothy is of this central species.

On the up side, only 55 or so days until ME3 launches.

I mean, that explanation makes sense. From an objective point of view, it makes sense. But the other day I played through the part with the abandoned collector ship, and the moment when Shepard discovers the collectors were once protheans sounds weird when you hear it thinking on the multiple species theory. I'm not saying they won't decide to explain it like that anyway: I actually believe they will, I just think they didn't think the whole thing through. So it will feel a little weird to play the trilogy at once.
But hey, Zaeed Massani founded the Blue Suns when he was 15 years old, so LOL IDK

So... That thing you guys were commenting about the Protheans being various species united under one name: is that really confirmed as canon somewhere?

It is confirmed within the script, and it's such a minute background detail that I doubt it would be changed. Being on my phone, I don't have any access to the script, but Someone With Mass posted several chunks of quotes a few pages back, that detail would surely be present.

I kinda think it won't be even mentioned. I don't mind that they handwave the aliens speaking english with the "universal translator" explanation, but it would be nice if they mentioned it more actively. Like when speaking to Thane that one time. Wouldn't it be great if Shepard's translator broke for a mission or so? =D

I did not read through all 43 other pages but how will the translator work with a language that as far as I know we've never heard before. I'm sure vigil will be brought up but I'm wondering about him also. I did not read to much into prothy. I just wanted to be sure that there was a prothy squad in ME3 to put my mind to rest so maybe they explain it in the script. Haven't read it and don't plan to.
Good question.
He can learn languages almost instantaniously trough touching stuff. So thats worked out.
