I was also very annoyed that you couldn't romance Varric in DA2. It's like BioWare doesn't want to give us a lot of the best male characters as LIs.

Thankfully they listened to the fans and made Garrus one.

@Arcian Really, you like Ezio himself and not just how he plays out in the games? Because Ezio himself really bugs the hell out of me. I don't like him. He was lucky to have received the gameplay upgrades that Altair never had access to, but as a character I will ALWAYS prefer Altair. Ezio seemed one-dimensional to me. Poor writing didn't do his exposition any favors.

Even after all the harsh criticism and whatnot, I probably would have still purchased DA2 at full price had Varric and Aveline been romance options.  But alas, who knew such a trival matter  could tip the scale?

I hope Varric returns as a party member in DA3 and becomes romancable. It would be the best thing since... well, since the same thing happened to Tali and Garrus.

No, to be fair Jacob was the dead last, remotest possibility character.  Garrus fell in dreaded "lets be friends" territory, which is higher than where Jacob was.  Thane was slightly ahead of both, but I didn't see the point in getting involved with a man who was dying.
