Wow LTiberious, I'm surprised you're back; after being steamrolled you kinda disappeared.

But anyway: When was it mentioned that the Drell worship the Protheans? Obviously the Hanar do, but I don't remember anyone saying the Drell were similar. Seems odd.

And more than one Prothy? Care to give a source Tazz? I have the leaked script, but can't find anything in there that suggests that's true. Granted, the script, incomplete as it is, is still a lot to cover.

It's going to be great to have a prothean squad mate, and the renegade behavior fits someone who has seen what he has.  I can tell that some players are going to be confused because when they learned that the collectors were the protheans, they didn't hear they "genetically modified from" part.  I facepalm when I see a picture of a collector labelled as a prothean.

I expect him to be like a prothean Shepherd, though having outlived his race, he wants revenge at any cost.

It will only get worse I'm afraid; with Bioware constantly hyping ME3 as a great place to start, and ME2 so painfully overshadowing ME1, they're basically telling all the idiots out there to ignore ME1 altogether. Depsite the fact that Me1 is where we first learned about, and first saw the Protheans in the first place.

I don't know about that. If anything, Bioware is probably trying to push for more people buying ME1 who haven't already.

Especially since most of the active squadmates are from ME1 - not ME2.

Can I ask three quick questions. I'm new to the site and this support thread caught my eye, so I thought I would check it out and these were the questions that formed after reading the comments here.

1. We're assuming that the prothan will be the squadmate (my suspcions as Engineer this time) if so, what sort of personality do we have thus far for him or her? I'm assuming him since it all the hints in the games and the info regarding the Prothan seem to be that it's male, And, if as some people are suggesting that he's going to be a more renagade spock character do you think he'll fit into the dynamic of the ship?

2. Reaction from the Hanar and Drell? Given that they worship these beings as gods, do you think that the characters like Thane or Koylat would have to keep the secreat of the Prothan not being as god like as the Hanar believe them to be? Or do you think that the Prothan will be more welcoming to the idea of being seen as god like?

3. What do you feel about the idea of the Prothan being like the Turian Councillor? Sort of a jerk that thinks that he knows best? What do you think you will feel about the character should the character become a jerk?

Odd question, do you know where the term "Space Chuthul" started from for this character?

1:Renegade.
2: Worship, Awe. Seen as a god? He's renegade ;)
3:  Turian Councilor is a jerk, with immense amounts of butthurt involved. Prothy's a badass.

Why do I see a scene where Shepard has to sort of talk him out of takiing over the Hanar homeworld.

Prothy: Ah yes I am your god, bow before me. *Lighting thunder gimmick*
Shep: Ahem, we do have a mission to complete first.
Prothy: Right sorry, After we have saved the galexy your god shall return....and bring you the remains of our enemies.
Shep: *Facepalm*

Well, so you HAVE read the script :)

Something over these lines will happen.

You can post spoilers in this thread. So i dont see the big deal.

Hey, as long as they are hidden - they only get removed after a few days. (Yes, BW reads this thread, but doesnt post in it, coincidence? :) )

Drell should respect the gods of their "masters" :) But afaik they have their own religion.

And anyway - its a living Prothean. He is a living god for maany people :)

That's one reason why I think they're ignoring ME1; by bringing back most of the old squad (Only two members not there, Wrex, and for good reason, the other VS) they're basically trying to emulate ME1 for players who would probably go into shock trying to play the "Dated," original.

"The setup is very similar to ME1, so why not play this, which has better graphics, choices, mechanics, etc, instead of the first game?" I'm not saying Bioware's is excplictly doing what they are for that reason, but they are making it disconcertingly easy for people to really not care about ME1.

@LTiberious: you were destroyed, and I'm only mentioning it because of how hard and long you fought me on an issue that should have been simple from the beginning, and for calling blatant facts "Impossible." I feel compelled to be a little full of myself.

I have no idea what you're referring to about "Gods of their masters." Are you suggesting that the Protheans believed in the same gods as the Drell? Or the other way around? Where'd you get that idea? Its never once even implied, anywhere.

And I fail to see how being a Prothean makes him a "God," to "Many people," considering that only the Hanar worship them. Interesting; yes. an Icon; yes. A god? Not even close.

@Bent - huh, will see about that when ME3 comes out. And we actually see Prothy.

You Outnerded me, but not won :)

///

Drell are deeply religious, believing that they have souls separate from their bodies. They see death as a departure from the body, and they also state that a person's body and soul form a Whole. When the soul is traumatized or otherwise disrupted, or the body is ill or injured, a person is no longer Whole. They also believe that their body can be directed as a separate entity from themselves, in the case of Thane Krios taking no responsibility for his numerous killings, which were ordered by the hanar. The drell religion is also polytheistic, with the drell having multiple gods whom they pray to in varying situations. This religion included at least three gods: Amonkira, Lord of Hunters; Arashu, Goddess of Motherhood and Protection; and Kalahira, Goddess of Oceans and Afterlife.

Quote from the Wiki.

Drell respect the Hanar, Hanar worship Protheans. Drell respect the "gods" of their masters. While tending to their own religion.
P.S. Its not like Drell would exist if Protheans did not uplift the Hanar. (should have also thought them to speak better tho)

Yes, yes, go pout. I love how you're devolving our debate into mere "nerdism," like that somehow softens the fact that you lost. It was not a question of who was the bigger "Nerd," it was a question of who actually paid attention. And that wasn't you.

Yes, the Drell are religious, we all knew that. What was the point in posting that block of text? They may "respect," the Hanar's belief, but they certainly don't have to share it. I don't understand why you've even made this an issue.

.... Protheans made the what? Please tell me you're joking, and not making the joke clear.

You still haven't given reason to your "He's a God to a lot of people," nonsense.

And I haven't seen a shred of supposed "human psychology" in even the broadest sense in anything you and I have talked about; rather, you skip around various topics and use bizarre paragraph formats and leaps of logic that make it very difficult to make any sense of what you're saying.

Not to mention most of what you've contributed here has been baseless "Headcanon" *Thank you Arcian* that has been ultimately dismissed by theories and beliefs actually supported by what Bioware has given us.

EDIT: And I've become painfully aware of how little I've contributed outside this "Debate," I've been having, so:

Considering the high possbility that Protheans have tentacles, how do they speak? I know they could very easily have an actual mouth under there, but that raises the question; why do they have tentacles in the first place? Keep flies out?

Possibly sensory organs that can feel pressure, heat and "taste" in the air. They could also have a social/sexual function. Of course, this is just speculation on my part.

I tihnk it's more of a hyperbole/metaphor.

For example, Freddie Mercury was too awesome to simply call him awesome.  To fully express Freddie Mercury's awesomeness, it is best to say "Freddie Mercury is a god."

Alright, this should finally set the record straight. Yesterday, I finally got my copy of "The Art of The Mass Effect Universe." On page 140, they confirm that there will a prothean in the game. And on pageg 141, there is a painting of him in battle armor. I'll upload a scan of it later when I get a free moment, but for now, let me just say that:
1.) He (She?) doesn't have tentacle faces
2.) They look similar to the Collectors shape-wise, but with a more humanoid head (still 4 eyes though, each with 2 pupils)

As for the fact that they don't have tentacles on their head or face, I'd speculate that all those statues and pictures from the first game are their deities. Either that or they, like the hanar, worshipped their predecessors.

I thought that to correctly express the awesomeness of Freddy Mercury you simply had to use the words "Freddy Mercury". Huh.

Also, chassan1, I think I speak for everybody when I say:

Perhaps they could rationalize the tenticles away as a sort of symbolic adornment to the head that just resembles tenticles. Something similar to a veil, crown, toga or labcoat, something that denotes status and would be included in sculptures.

I always thought the statues made them look like they were being husk-ified or something.  They almost looked like they were in pain, or being drained of energy--a hint of things to come, an aesthetic hint of what would happen to us, should Shepard fail.

Also, PM scans, plz.  I don't get my book for another month, but it was worth the money I saved.
