It's dissapointing to see that they decided just to make him a collector with a mouth. From what I gathered from EDI's dialogue in ME2 the Collectors had been radically modified so much that they no longer looked like their original prothean self and personally I always preferred the 'cthulhu' people look.

I already hated the concept but I figured I might still be able to appreciate the design. I guess not.

No one cares what you think.

He looks more like a cross between a Collector, a drell and a salarian to me.

It's more apparent if you look at the second picture.

Nice, thanks for the images.

EDI looks sort of how I imagined, just not as robotic.

I expected tentacles for Prothy, but you know what it doesn't look bad at all. :)

Seriously, I'd like to applaud the concept artists for making EDI and Prothy look completely different from how I imagined. It's a weird disconnect at first, but ultimately I approve. It shows how much they really work on their ideas.

I don't want to derail the discussion, but really? Couldn't they just create a geth/cylon centurion hybrid for EDI? Did they have to make her look like a robotized woman?

Bah. It's really sad to see how they do NOT want to take risks when designing female characters. It's like they have to make them all sexually attractive, no matter the cost.

Originally, she had a skin that made her look human.  So the overall shape had to be human.

Not a fan of the "hair," though.  Oh well.

They took an awfully big risk with Jack in ME2, I think.  And it's not like they aren't doing it to the males (Dat Chin).  But still, it's annoying.
