They don't. That's the point.

But then how could we kiss him in the steamy romance scene that totally exists and I am not making up?

Seriously, now, I agree. A mouthless look would have been interesting too. But maybe then people would have claimed that he's just a "protoss ripoff!" :D

Actually I find this has made it a tough decision to pick an ultimate squad; I can't believe I'm saying this but the entire squad looks awesome (Vega included).

I can't say that about the previous two games.

No. You're not crazy. He has a manly face, and in that picture, a manly, badass expression. It's perfectly natural.

Thanks Jeff & Nissum! ^_^

I agree with the bold 100%, that was my first reaction when I saw it.

He looks fierce, unafraid, confident, and a total bad-ass. I can't help but swoon a little. :P

I had the same reaction, too. Well, replace "a little" with "a lot" and "swoon" with "lost my sh*t".

haha that is probably a more accurate representation of my reaction then I led on. ;)

So I assume Prothy will be the DLC character? Or we don't really know yet? If he is he better have normal conversations like the rest of the squad I absolutely hated the fact that Kasumi and Zaead didn't have full conversations and dialogues.

Having him speak telepathically would probably start a pretty big commotion in public, so I'm glad that he has a good old fashioned mouth.

Wow, I'm kinda glad I wandered in here today.

First off, Prothy looks like a badass. Though I don't think him and my mainShep will get along very well (merciful woman that she is, bless her. XD), I think it's about time we got a character in that knocked Shepard around for being a "softie" vs. just "you're awesome, Shepard!" I'll be interested to see what the backstory on him is, and how BioWare is going to close the discrepancy gap between what he looks like and what we've seen on Ilos and in Shepard's visions. Overall, very cool.

EDI...oh EDI. Lol. I love EDI's character, but I think giving her an autonomous form was a massive mistake. (Disclaimer: I'm not just saying that because I'm a Joker/Shepard shipper. XD) I would have preferred a Cortana-like holographic interface (never was a fan of the "blue ball") to help her be more expressive, but not necessarily roam the ship/be a squaddie (and how they're going to justify that, I have no clue...EDI is equipped with starship defense algorithms, not physical, coordinated humanoid combat abilities). However, I'm glad she has a very "android" look to her versus a "Number Six" look: I was concerned about that point when the pictures of Eva surfaced. In all actuality....she looks very much like my Shepard. Lol.

well see i like her new look mainly because i had this scary idea that her me2 look would be on like a robotic body.. ya know what i mean?

i think she looks great and i do get a star wars vibe from it when it comes to the twi'leks

I can definitely see that.

If they were gonna do EDI as an autonomous character, I think they did it right. However, still not a fan of the autonomy thing.

He has full conversations all right... And Im not so sure he is DLC. I mean i have art of ME2 and there is no art or comments about Zaeed and Kasumi in there.

Yeah, I'm having trouble too. I guess I'll take Garrus and Vega until I recruit Prothy, then it's gona be Prothy and one of them all the time.

And in the missions where one character joins temporarily, well... I'll have to flip a coin, ignore it, and choose Prothy.

It's not like those statues could have been modeled after the previous Prothean race or another race entirely.

No, that would make far too much sense for BSN. In with the complains about retcons, inconsistencies and bad writings. God knows we haven't gotten enough of that yet.

Just because you like it that doesn't stop it from being a retcon.

Yeah, as I stated in 'your' thread (the Joker one, of course!) several weeks ago I can totally get why a lot of fans aren't exactly thrilled with this development. For me, the good outweighs the bad; I've pondered plenty of more implicit meanings for EDI getting a humanoid makeover and come to some fairly interesting conclusions.

For one thing, the series' core is quite tied in with the ongoing AI debates of the real world and, of course, many other popular works of science fiction, and while the Reapers 'ascend' to these great structures that float across a sea of stars, EDI 'descends' into a humanoid form; this then leads to a string of questions over which direction is truly better, truly more significant?

I just really dig the whole deal, for all kinds of reasons, so long as it isn't utterly plastered onto the screen that she's just a walking sexbot and that's all there is to it. And I have much more faith in the scribes than to go that route, although I'm fully anticipating some relatively witty banter to that end and I'm fully aware there's a certain catering at play here as well.

I would say the largest argument against him being DLC is the idea that he is literally the last Prothean. Seems like a large role to be given to simple DLC (even if his impact on the story itself is minimal, the gravity of him existing in the first place multiplies his importance tenfold).

Well Kasumi isn't in there because that book went with CE ME2 copies and her DLC wasn't out for a few months thereafter. But if it's true that there was no mention of Zaeed then that is definitely food for thought.

What, you like every squadmate in the previous two games? Usually there's one/two that end up being sidelined because others are better.

But Prothy looks amazing and he/she/it is biotic, EDI looks good, as do Garrus/Liara/VS/Vega. For once it's actually hard to pick.

I still don't know about Prothy, but EDI on the other hand, I think she can't be an optional squadmate. I mean, if Tali and Garrus died in the suicide mission, Kaidan on Virmire, and your Shepard isn't a tech class, then you would have absolutely no character with tech skills, right?

I do. I shuffle them fairly routinely. No one left behind means something else entirely for me, considering I orchestrate a few deaths during the suicide mission for my own personal dramatic storytelling rationale. But whoever I send off to the abyss, I mourn, as much as anyone might mourn a video game character in any case. I think they're all good.

Even Jacob. Even Jack. Even Kaidan. Even [insert whoever people are disliking this week here].

I doubt the Prothean is a DLC character.....unless he isn't central to the main story of ME3 which seems unlikely...

Sure I don't dislike any of them and rotate them to give them fair screen time, but nowhere near the same level as I'm liking the ME3 squad.

Anyway I don't want to derail this discussion further away from Prothy! :?

A retcon is something previously established in the story magically becoming false. It was never outright said what the Protheans looked like.

I haven't read the leaks, nor will I do so for any reason, but that seems like an incredibly loaded question. Depending on who you'll ask, you'll get a firm 'yes' or 'no' as to how integral he is.

The biggest piece of evidence that he is a DLC character still stems from the original, allegedly unintentional unveiling. When the CE was announced, the bonus squadmate was literally listed as 'The Prothean', as many are aware. Priestly said it was an old and outdated piece of information as they quickly changed it, but for a cautious few, the search for answers was just beginning.

These days I just don't know anymore. He's definitely in... beyond that I'll take whatever I can get. I'd love for him not to be the DLC character though, since that means another squadmate.

I like that you threw all this depth in there because now I'm totally in on it as well.

And yeah, I don't hate any of the squadmates, either.  THEY ARE MY PRECIOUS BABIES.
