Jack: "What the hell are you?"
Prothean: "Fifty-thousand years older than you."
Jack: "No s***. Shepard does find the weird ones."
Citadel Citizen: "Would you mind maybe...signing something? Just to prove I met you? 'P'? That's your name?"
Prothean: "How many Protheans do you know?"
Citadel Citizen: "Just you."
Prothean: "Then there will be no confusion."
Prothean: "Thank you, Commander. I have enjoyed my time here, walking among the..infants."
Hanar: "Pardon me. This is one is lost. Could you direct me to- "
Prothean: "A hanar. I remember your kind when you were still minnows in the ocean. The...'Enkindlers' -- that is what you call us?"
Hanar (flabbergasted): "This one... is unworthy! This one has seen the face of an Enkindler! (as he goes) This one has basked in their glory… this one must spread the word!"
Shepard: "They consider your kind to be their gods."
Prothean: "A pity we did not teach them to speak better."
Prothean: "To discover the most primitive races of my time now rule the galaxy. The asari, the humans, the turians..."
Shepard: "There's also the salarians."
Prothean (surprised): "The lizard people evolved?"
Shepard: "I believe they're amphibian."
Prothean (amused, to himself): "They used to eat flies."
Prothean: "Since I was born, there has been only one pursuit in life: war. I look forward to seeing what peace looks like. "
Shepard: "It's a big galaxy."
Prothean: "Perhaps I will write a book with the asar- with Doctor T'Soni. She suggests "My Journeys with the Prothean"."
Shepard: "You'd do that?"
Prothean: "I'll need a job. There will no Reapers left to kill. I believe the hanar would welcome me. I could live like a king among them."

Speculation:
Perhaps the statues are a species that came before the protheans. One that the protheans even respected?

Huh... Apparently the Protheans weren't a collection of different species under one name:

@macwalterslives Were the #[/s]protheans a single species or several different species going under the same name? Will they be relevant in #[/s]ME3?

@GV_Arcian The Protheans are a single species. And yes, they will definitely have a prominent role in #[/s]ME3.
Myth busted!
Prothean: We were the dominant race of our cycle. We were the rulers of the galaxy.
Liara: My studies indicated you were the only race engaged in space-travel at the time. I always found that curious.
Prothean: We were one empire composed of many subjects. All eventually called themselves "Prothean".
Liara: What if they didn't want to?
Prothean: They weren't given a choice.
Shepard: Are you saying you enslaved the other races?
Prothean: Any could oppose us if they wished. And had they won, they would have ruled. Many tried. None succeeded.
Liara: I had no idea Protheans were so..severe.
Prothean: It was by necessity. Very early we encountered the dangers posed by machine intelligence. They rebelled against us. The machines' strength lies in their intelligence. We decided the only way to survive was to surpass their evolution with our own. In time, we united all organic life within our empire. Every race contributed in the struggle against the machines.
Liara: Did it work?
Prothean: For awhile. Until the Reapers arrived. Then we understood machines had surpassed us long ago in ways we could never imagine. Many of the details have been lost. The conflict lasted for centuries. Those that faced the Reapers in the beginning were long dead when I was born. There were memory totems though, passed down from soldier to soldier. They gave us fragments of what happened.
Prothean: Yes. Our own people would be indoctrinated...converted... ...then turned against us. But there was no choice. Mercy is not a weapon -- it is a weakness. What had been our strength - our empire - became a liability. All races conformed to one doctrine, one strategy. The Reapers exploited this. Once they found our weaknesses, we could not adapt. The subserviant races became divided and confused. It was only a matter of time before we all lost. I'm happy to say our cycle is different. Most races cooperate, but they still remain unique.

Shepard: Several years ago we found a Prothean VI who called itself 'Vigil'. It was on the planet Ilos.
Prothean: During my life, Ilos was only a rumor. It was said we had cities there, built on the ruins of a civilization before us, the Inusannon. If our scientists did have a research facility, whatever they were doing was secret.

Lol, never cries.
But seriously, I'm hoping for a "Breakdown," scene myself; it doesn't have to be heart-shattering, or over the top dramatic (Vader: "Noooooo!") but a quiet, powerful, deep realization that, as you said, everything he's ever known, everyone he ever loved, is less than ash after 50,000 years.
I would like to see something like this. I could see him breaking down after the have defeated the Reapers, having all those emotions that he had pushed away to prepare himself come rushing back in.

And huge thanks.
Dang, another confirmationn of Protheans not-looking like Ilos statues .
Im over the arguement, im not over being absolutely right

And the different species under one name quote - thankyou. For confirming that the "Caste" system did exist.
Many tanks to you.

@Tiberious: I love how you thanked AVPen about the Inusannon, when I had
been beating you over the head with the same information. And no, it
doesn't confirm your caste theory, because he never says anything about
the different races performing specific functions. Prothy even says in that dialogue that all the races performed under "One doctrine," and "One strategy." Your habit of jumping to conclusions based on nothing but "Headcanon," is still in full swing I see.
