Sorry couldn't help myself lol.
Still I have no issue with AH in Diablo 3, the game is gonna be so epic fun that I just don't mind having both ingame and RL money AH since D2 as everyone has already said had a black market ebay version doing same already; at least now it will be regulated.

Moral/ethical or not, this AH idea will generate an economy and massive amounts of money will be spent.

Wow, really now?
I fail to see the problem with this. Purely optional and if you sell something you get real cash. Helps to cut down all the spam at least. Valve does it with the Team Fortress 2 Mann Co. store kind of.
I myself would never buy anything but I would gladly sell something. Especially since there will be a service allowing people to cash out.

Will people have to claim "Diablo III" as income?
Possibly, if you make enough money at it, though I think it would fall under capital gains. It would also vary from country to country.

Auctions existed in Diablo 2 and Diablo for REAL money - they just weren't done within the game, and used websites such as eBay. All that Blizzard are doing is putting the feature into the game.
If you don't approve of paying real money for items, no worries - don't make use of the auction house. But don't think that this hasn't already been happening since Diablo 2 came out.

Don't think you would be able to claim Diablo 3 as an investment. It's not stock or property, more like a service. Least not in the US anyway. It would likely be Misc. Income.
Or none at all if you figure out a way to stay off the radar.

From what I understand any money that makes its way into your battlenet account cannot be withdrawn. what you can do is spend it on blizzard merchandise, game time, and other blizzard games/expansions. So farming for item drops and selling them via the in game AH isn't going to make anyone rich.
There will be a service allowing you to cash out any money you make.
Here it is.
"Diablo III players who opt to sell in-game gear for real world currency have the option of funneling the cash proceeds into one of two accounts: an e-balance that players can use to buy other Blizzard products (games, World of Warcraft game time, virtual pets) and an unannounced third party payment provider that will simply let them cash out their winnings (minus another fee from the third party)."

Nah they doing 3 things, first is auction items via in game currency or secondley auction items for sort of like currency that can be used to buy more blizzard store stuff bit like bioware points. Lastly and this bit they havent worked out 100% yet but a third party company will most likley be paypal and can use it to exchange for real money however this last one blizz will take a cut of your profit and so will probably the third party aka paypal if use this last method.

Very true. I agree and think this is a smart move to cut down scammers and blackmarket prices. I doubt they will let you sell items for hundreds in their AH as far as real cash goes I'm pretty sure they will cap it max price somewhere.

Can't wait to play Diablo III on my 360. Console gamers will actually treat Blizzard with the respect they deserve.

Yeah, Remember when you guys thought Witcher II was going to be a PC exclusive?
Uh, no. CD Projekt was interested in console development before The Witcher 2 was released.

I bet you were going HAHAHAHAHA then too, right? You guys don't have any worthwhile exclusives. Your platform is nothing but a worthless dumping ground for crappy console ports like NFS Hot Pursuit and Dead Space II.
Your fight against the "tyranny of DRM" has failed. You've only made things worse.
PC gaming used to be glorious and you guys destroyed it through your greed, arrogance and utter ignorance. As a former PC gamer I will never forgive this generation's PC gamers for what they did for the platform I once loved.

Why is it always a console argument with you BosomJack? You're avoiding the actual discussion of real world cash auction houses within the game.
Because I know that this is going to be yet another smokescreen that PC gamers use to pirate the game. They're going to pirate it and then say they would've bought it if only it had an offline mode which is complete CRAP and they know it!
They were planning on pirating it day 1 just like everything else they steal DRM or not and Diablo III is no exception.

I bet you pirate all your games. Maybe buy a few but you are a pirate?
How do I know this? Because there is piracy on the 360 so that MUST mean you are a pirate.

There is piracy on the 360 but it is frowned upon. If you admit to being a pirate on Xbox Live you will be shunned, condemned, and people will try to get you banned for being the worthless parasite on the industry you are.
If you are a PC gamer and you pirate though you're championed as a freedom fighter. A vigilante fighting an oppressive regime. A warrior for the modern day civil rights movement taking down the fascist gestapo.
We've all heard the rallying cry of PC gamers before.
"SHARING IS CARING!"
