how Athyeta's old lover used to ''put the old commando leathers on for special nights'' (Sorry about the Marks, I just feel like I was reading bad fan-fiction when I looked over that bit) and Last I checked Benezia was, and some point in her life, an Asari Commando.
You're misremembering Athyeta's conversation. She is talking about her parents, her mother was an Asari Commando and her father was a Krogan. Then she says that her mother used to put on the commando leathers for special nights with her dad, and "goddess was that embarassing."

Aethyta is surprisingly well fleshed out and likable for such an insignificant character. I wish I could hire her as the bartender on the Normandy.
This....
Aethyta is my favorite Asari....

The best part of that comment is if you end the conversation after she says it Shepard then says "Thanks for telling me about that".Fata Morgana wrote...

As much as I like Matriarch Aethyta.

I respect her opinion and value her point of view. She is also a powerful biotic. What with being a Matriarch and all.Even if I can't have her as a squadmate.I would like the opportunity to have her join my crew.In a
role not all that different from Whoppi Goldbergs character from Star Trek: TNG -- Guinan .Shepard needs more than an Army and a Fleet to defeat the Reapers. He needs to have good council and advisors that he can rely upon..

Plus I think Aethyta is as sexy as all get-out!
"What can I get ya, honey? Sorry, no sex. Just cleaned up the place."

And
I must confess -- that I wouldn't mind having the chance of romancing her.Imagine how Liara would react if she finds out that Shepard is intimately involved with -- her father. ../../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png

We should make an Athyeta support thread.
@OP: I'm pretty sure one hasn't been made. Change the title to "Matriarch Aethyta ME3 Support Thread" or something along those lines.

I always took that to mean that the Asari almost lost (or did depending on if you let the Council die) the Destiny Ascension. In the context she would have named Benezia by name. Her line (for context): "...Look at that screw-up with Saren and his geth a few years back! Their ships were hanging bare-assed in space when Saren started shooting. If not for you humans, we would've bought it right there..."Robhuzz wrote...
When Aethyta speaks about Benezia she says "Screw up with Saren". Indicating that they knew eachother rather well for Aethyta to have such an outspoken opinion of her.

I never understood what was wrong with making Mass Relays for themselves. Athyta had the right idea. The Asari's are a stupid race.
They are the first to find the mass relays and citadel. And instead of exploiting their find and depriving and overlording other races.
Like humans would if the found the citidel first. The decide to share it to other races.
When some one objects to a lifestyle that involves less stripping and killing.
And more research, advancement, learning and developement. She is laughed at.
WHAT THE F*CK Athyta deserved better than that.
You can not apply human thought processes and human morality to the Asari or any other race in Mass Effect because many of them (of which Asari are the closest) are vastly different from us.
As Legion says to apply human morality to another race, to treat them as you would your own, is racist.

Hey, I'll hazard a guess on the Benezia / Aethyta split-up. I bet their relationship was kindled by attraction and passion - but that wasn't enough to keep them together. Also - look at what different personalities we've seen... ! If they are the parents - it's easy to imagine these two flaring up at each other.
Benezia - the stately, regal, "ice-queen", who embraces her formal role of advisor ( what would she BE without that ? ). Then there's Aethyta - who IS WISE.... Visionary even, but apparently so far ahead of her people that they ridiculed her. "Why bother re-creating the technology for oursellves - when it works fine" - is probably what they said at the time...not considering the hidden danger of a technology whose origins and true purpose are not understood.
Aethyta cares deeply for her people, yet r
ealizes ( like Bodhidharma or Yoda ) that "the time is not right for my teachings" ( Yoda: "Into exile - I must go." ) Fortunately Aethyta - not being the Zen master type - goes off - not to the lonely mountain top - but right into the thick of brawling, maddening, annoying, and entertaining - Life in the city... at the bar. Shepard is one who recognizes the value of her long life experience.
Shepard: "What's it like to live for a thousand years ?"
Aethyta: "Violent - Wars break out - colonies get destroyed."
I hope Aethyta will return - and will rally the Asari in Mass Effect 3 !!!

As for others, she's my favorite asari, and has the singular distinction of having decided, with her story about building mass relays, the course my main Shepard will take in ME3 if he can. The primary objective is, of course, to defeat the Reapers. But the secondary one is to break the stagnation of Citadel civilization. I guess that will take a number of Renegade decisions....
And I support the idea of Aethyta as the Normandy's bartender. Only I think the Alliance won't let us keep the SR2's "civilian sector comforts". Stuck up jarheads...
