Well, Saturn Austria messes up a lot, but their (limited) RPG section isn't 90% meh in my opinion.
Why did so many people say Dragon Age 2 was a bad game?

Let me get this right... The store in which you buy your games doesn't have any bad RPGs? That's interesting. Which store do you use?Persephone wrote...
Having joined Steam and browsing their "RPG" section actually doubled my affection for DAII. Some MAJOR duds on there.Darth Krytie wrote...

Agreed. Add Venetica and Divinity 2: Ego Draconis to that list (which both just sucked overall)
Personally, I think some people are only happy when it rains.

Nevermind, there are many rubbish RPGs out there. Most of them can't even be called RPGs in it's true sense, since they are hack'n'slash games with a little more dialogue.
Let me try to recall the better RPGs from the last couple of years...there are the BioWare games (DA and ME), The Witcher, Drakensang, Fable 3, ..erm..that's about it.

To be fair though, it's because of the gameplay, not story. Story was okay, not great, not bad.

Having a blast with Eschalon: Book 1 atm. Will probably buy the sequel. RPG gold IMHO.

We were talking about the story though. Never quite got into Divinity I or II.
Oh, and another contender: Sacred I&II. Most repetetive game ever.

I haven't tried the Dragon Knight Saga; I just tried that crappy Ego Draconis. Honestly, I didn't give it much of a chance, because the gamplay was absolutely craptacular, but from what I could tell, there was no story, either.

Sadly, I played Sacred 2 quite a bit for a while there. No story, granted, but it was a good way to pass time until other games came out. Plus, I got to play as a seraphim!

But it's nothing that BioWare could publish, since it's sooo very 90s.
Come on, it's not that bad. They haven't published a bus simulator and called it "Dragon Age", have they?Sakatox wrote...

There are quite some entertaining moments in the game, and I wouldn't even say it's bad. It's just not as good as expected.

I don't get it. I bought the game about a week and a half ago beat it in a couple of days and loved it. I thought it was really fun and a huge improvement upon Dragon Age Origins and Awakening as far as game play is concerned. I even like Isabella, Carver, Avalina, and Merrill. I never thought much of Anders and Fenneris was intersting but didn't really love him. My Hawke was a female mage with a diplomatic personality. Anyway I had a ton of fun with this even if the story was way to the left of what was in Origins and I did miss characters like Morigon, Ogrhen and Lelianna, Wynne and even Sten and Dog. Overall great game I am excited to see what happens in DA3
because it was shallow compaired to the first game. not to mention rushed

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. DA2 is one of the deepest RPG experiences since RPG video games. Your just an angry LARPer that misses his worthless boring numbers it seems. How can you not like it? DA2 does everything right.

Because it is realistic? You think all characters in DA2 have 125 suits of armor lying around?
And between act 1 and 3 there's years. So when you first clear an area of evildoers the place is empty. So others might use it again because it's...empty.

Realistic?
Well, you know, there were no factories in the older days. Every single piece of armor or cloth was unique. And why would any person walk around in 100% the same clothing for 10 (!) years?
And why do 2 different (!) caves in 2 different places look totally the same?
That's not realism, it's just lame.
Btw: Fenris lived in that mansion for 10 years and never managed to remove the corpses and the dirt lying around everywhere. Is that realism, too?

Yes

Ofcourse, but only very very very small details, no point wasting time on that.
And why would any person walk around in 100% the same clothing for 10 (!) years?
More effecient? If it isn't broken, no point replacing it then.
And why do 2 different (!) caves in 2 different places look totally the same?
The maker did it. Easier that way.
That's not realism, it's just lame.
Just like real life.

@Persephone
Eschalon II is even better. BW (BasiliskWrangler aka Thomas Riegsecker) and team out did themselves. Also if you download the 1.05 version of Eschalon II you get the Secret of Fathamurk expansion pack for free. The expansion pack adds 5 to 10 more hours of game play.
It is a nice throwback to old school goodness even if it is not party based. I hear BW is working on the last game in the trilogy.
