We know that morrigan used this to travel from one place to another. Merrils did not seem to work, But what if the Magisters of old found them selfs in a city of Mirrors each with its own purpose. They found the city corrupt with the taint and tring to escape they used a mirror that sent a twisted reflection of them back to the deep were they came from while trying to find the golden city. I believe Dumat wanted the magisters to free him and the others but the magisters only got to a city of mirrors full of corruption and unsure wich mirror to use they fled back through a mirror or gateway they came through to find that the corruption had allready taken root in them. The mirror sent back the magister with the taint and them seeing they were just twisted reflections of what they were. The corruption is older than the darkspawn it is the hate and evil of the waring god and there search to destroy each other. The corruption is not mans desire to ursurp heaven it is the gods fighting to be the one, the one with the true power. The Source.  Just another point of view I have yet to see from others.

I think the chant of light is true. The magisters are the first darkspawn and did go looking to find the light and become gods but the corruption is far older than them. The true source of the taint is still unknown, we may need the help of that wich we hate the most to make things right in the world.

There are so many threads about the Golden/Black City, magisters and Eluvians, that I'm beginning to get confused on my own theories. Posted Image

But here goes...

I think that the Golden City was already "tainted" before the magisters arrived. Whether or not they knew, or Dumat knew, is hazy. I am inclined to think that they were unaware. But once they crossed the threshold to the City, they unleashed the corruption. It twisted them, and it was made free so as to travel back through whatever portal they had opened - probably an Eluvian (since we know that the Blight sickness can be carried through one).

I think the chant of light is true. The magisters are the first darkspawn and did go looking to find the light and become gods but the corruption is far older than them. The true source of the taint is still unknown, we may need the help of that wich we hate the most to make things right in the world.

I think there are some truths within the Chant, but most have been twisted to serve the purpose of changing a polytheistic society to a monotheistic one. The Maker may or may not be real - he may be a figurehead. But it is clear that the domain of the old gods was being replaced - by human or divine, I don't know.

I think that the corruption is either a creation of the spirits of the Fade - a duplication of what they saw in the hearts and souls of men and tried to emulate in the Fade (hence the Black City being visible there). Or it's residue of creation itself. The world functions in opposites - light and dark, hot and cold, etc. When the world was created, there was light, there was life. There should be a counter to that - shadow, death, etc. So maybe those dregs dwell somewhere. Perhaps somewhere deep or in some ethereal realm. I think this may have been part of what created the Blight/taint. Perhaps the magisters tapped into those shadows, though I can't be certain if it was willingly.

All I know is Corypheus forced me to reevaluate my original theories on darkspawn. Even after the magisters returned from the fade, now corrupted, it was the dwarves who have the oldest records of fighting the darkspawn. Corypheus seems completely unaware what a darkspawn actually is.

I think the chant of light is true. The magisters are the first darkspawn and did go looking to find the light and become gods but the corruption is far older than them. The true source of the taint is still unknown, we may need the help of that wich we hate the most to make things right in the world.

Please remember that the Chantry removed anything positive about the elves in the Chant because it was considered too heretical. They alter their own scripture so it matches their beliefs. Corypheus proves they do have the corruption right, but not the timeline. They claim it happened 1000 years before Origins, whereas Corypheus is mentioning a timeline of 2000 years earlier. There are too many holes in the Chant for my to believe it. But it has enough truth in it to keep me from outright dismissing it.

I have to agree with you both. I cant wait for dawn of the seeker on funimation to add some more lore and knowledge to the pot. We can only hope bioware keeps a steady stream of dlc's while getting da3 done. There is lots of places to go in Thedus. Less we forget Sir Alec from the keep and the order of the silver knights. I would like to find more out about the Daefads people that lived in kirkwall long ago before the teventer rule.
