Women are not a minority.
Good observation.
However, this thread is about female Shepards. They are a minority.
Most women are put off by the idea of becoming gamers due to the highly sexualized image that games give them.
It's a shame really.

How is it a shame and why would that argument be valid? You're trying to tell me that females can't play video games because female characters are overidealised in games? If this was the case nobody should play video games because all characters there are overidealised, Just because I'm not a humungus beefcake I can't enjoy playing Gears of War?
Girls don't play video games because most of them can't grasp that many flashing and moving things in a 3D environment with their not manly enough minds! Ha! Scientificly prooven fact!

I suppose it depends on symantics and how far you take the stereotype.
Stereotypically most gamers are right handed and male. I also don't think its to far to say Stereotypically most facebook gamers are women. There was an analytic study a year or two ago, the number came back around 70%.
Just wouldn't use it to dis-regard someones comment though.

I better stop, because you arent allowed to talk negatively about the Devs (Even when they seem to be begging for it).

it's something we could've cut a long time ago because it's actually very expensive for us to develop."
Wow...just wow.
Well Casey, thats why you guys get payed...so you can make a better game.
That video was strange, it was an unfathomably strange thing to bring up, considering the direction the interview was already going in.

You just missed a point bro. Lara Croft has a nice ass and big boobies because men find it attractive. Using analogy close the picture you provided all female characters in games should not be attractive but look like cheap hookers.

I was looking for an insulting example, not an exact opposite.
You think this kinda thing isn't a little insulting?

Damn boob simulator.

How about them apples!

I know, I know, also Japanese. But the dev who created her was actually mad that she was held as a video game sex symbol and that hentai was made of her BEFORE the gme even came out.

Since video games were made by men, for men, they were bought only by men. Once you start doing something like this it's hard to stop because your market by defaulut is made of men... so to be sure you get money you have to hit at your market, so you make a manly game for men, so your market is made of even more men. Change will come eventualy, but gaming industry still wants you to make them a sandwich.
Before you bother to report my post as insulting, I have not once stated that I think it's right. It's pure sociology and history.

As an avid female gamer, I am surprisingly hurt by this. The video does not show what the context is but when it is haphazardly thrown into a video like that, what am I to think? It sounds like such a strong disregard to the female fandom. I've thought for a long while, that Bioware cared more about the female fanbase than any other developer out there. Is that not true? Is it not true anymore?
Did you seriously think the amount of players choosing to play as a female would be comparable to those playing as a male character in a predominately male market? The official percentage is 18% of Shepards are femsheps. Personally, that's more than I would have guessed. I'm more surprised that 60% of players play the run of the mill soldier class over the Vanguard or Sentinel.
The fact that Bioware would devote the resources to female and s/s romances, give the smaller playerbase interested in those avenues (especailly s/s), would lend more to the notion that they care more about minorities demographics, not less.

Very realistic - www.youtube.com/watch It's a reboot of the entire franchise. I would say they really downplayed the sex appeal aspect almost completly, yet at the same time no one will say Lara's ugly or not attractive to male audience.ThePwener wrote...

99% of female characters in MMO games are played by men. Why would you think it's diffrent with single player games? The Twilight God wrote...
