I play on the 360 and like to tie heavy incinerate and cryoblast to the shoulder buttons. I very rarely use overload - except to blow up pyros. Unlike biotic specialisits the engineer benefits from early cooldowns meaning you can cast thick and fast. Overall I think the engineer is a great class - in fact talking about it is putting me in the mood for another run.

What bonus power should I go for (I intend to use Jack at most missions, so I have Squad Warp Ammo, so an Ammo Bonus power might be redundant)?

Neural Shock, unless you really want to use Cryo Blast; if not, I would consider Stasis/Reave/Dominate(if you don't care about lore), or if you do Flash Bang -- you could replace Overload with Energy Drain, but that would sacrifice three points for a little extra utility on Overload's niche.

What Advanced Weapon training should I get?

Assault Rifle, Mattock or Vindicator. Shotgun is viable too if have the Geth Plasma Shotgun.

What weapons of each type is best for me (I have the Kasumi and Firepower DLC)?

AR: Mattock / SG: Geth Plasma Shotgun -- SMG: Locust HP: Whatever

Given my small aiming issue and limited mapping (trying to use the least pausing plausible), what type of build would you recommend?

I don't really care for AI Hacking or Dominating. The Combat Drone gives me plenty of CC. However YMMV.

No bonus power version(Cryo Blast): http://mass-relay.co...p=4,4,4,4,1,4,0

Bonus power version(Neural Shock) http://mass-relay.co...p=4,4,4,1,0,4,4

Both function the same, the differences include; Cryo Blast gives you AI Hacking, and Cryo Blast works on synthetics, while Neural Shockwave can not.. Neural Shockwave does everything better than Cryo Blast versus organics.

Here is an AI Hacking build; http://mass-relay.co...p=4,3,4,2,4,4,0

For a bonus power I would go with whatever.

What is the general consensus in regards to neural shock versus cryo blast? Is the damage bonus from cryo worth it in CQC?

I like Neural Shock for its quick insta-cast ability but I think its better suited for the Infiltrator. I'd go with cryo blast and choose AP ammo (tungsten) as the bonus power to give the Engineer a damage boost with his/her weapons.

Okay then - I currently have a point in incinerate, drone and neural shock. Just finished freedoms progess. Any early game tips? Max drone first?

You want a point in all the abilities you plan to use regularly. You haven't mentioned overload but I would put one point in it to start with as it's useful for blowing up pyros. I would then max out combat drone and after that max out your passive. I prefer the mechanic evolution myself. After that I would max out incinerate, then neural shock.

Overload requires two points to unlock incinerate so I have that. Seems like I'll get incineration blast fairly late. Oh well!

The key decision for the build is whether you want to max overload or spread the points on something else. This is where i prefer cryoblast over neural shock. It gives me the cc power of ns but also the flexibility to choose another bonus power e.g. Armour piercing or stasis.

I like bringing garrus or kasumi anyway so overload isn't necessary for me early on. And overload is better than Concussive shot for garrus. :? I'm still not sure if I want cryo blast or neural shock...I guess I'll have one point in both and compare on horizon.

Don't forget: Respeccing is dirt cheap, especially for an engineer. Respec often once you get the option. Going against Blue Suns? Use Overload. Blood Pack? Put points in Incinerate. Geth? Overload and AI Hacking. The Engineer benefits more than any other class from frequent respecs. Take advantage of it.

The only real challenge is how to distribute points before that point. I recommend getting everything at rank one or two (except AI Hacking) first, then max out your passive, then Combat Drone. By that point, respecs should be available to you.

Also OP, I recommend taking a look at the sticky thread of class strategy guides here http://social.biowar...1/index/2749272

As soon as respeccing is avaiable I will abuse it to hell and back :P I'm more worried about pre-horizon

Right, that does it! All this talk off engineers is putting me in the mood for another runthrough. My last one was a sentinel so I'm looking forward to seeing my little round holographic friend again.

Currently sitting through the intro again for probably the 20th time :-)

...Does the neural shock stun cancel if you damage the enemies? :? Either that or it glitches hilariously often... That aside the engineer is surprisingly fun. Heavy suicide!

I maxed out my passive ability first (demolisher). 2 points in overload and 3 points in Geth shield boost. My engineer is primarily a defensive character in the early stages using overload to take down shields and stun Loki mechs. My primary offense are the heavy pistol and the smg with Jacob's squad inferno to give the weapons a little kick. The next level up I get will go towards incinerate. With the GSB (reduced squishiness) I can play the character like a soldier with tech gadgets.

That...reminds me of the sentinel for some reason. :? With GSB as an inferior tech armor.

Consider it a downgrade for getting the Drone. Hehehehe.

I'm now about 7hrs into my 2nd engineer insanity run and I have to say that this class is awesome and seriously underrated. I don't think i've ever finished Mordin and grunts recruitment missions so easily. Combat drone is easily one of the best class powers in the game. I love incinerate as well - a great defence stripper and finisher rolled into one. Personally nothing beats shattering a frozen statue with my smg:-)

The best thing for me as an engineer is that it's a breath of fresh air. I'm going to do a no-biotics run since an all-biotics squad just facerolls the collectors - it's not even funny. And the engineer seemed perfect for that.

I just finished Haestrom...This run was faster than my vanguard run...O.o Drone + Hack causes such havoc among the geth that I barely had to use cover...Engineers ftw!
