I'm about to try a 2-hander warrior for the first time. I've read a few guides and have the general idea of where to go, but there are a few things I'm unclear about. If it matters, it will be a Dwarf Noble (I've never tried one) and from Origins through Awakening my group will be another 2-hander, a rogue bard, and a mage.

For specializations, I was planning on going Champion/Templar/Spirit Warrior. My understanding was that Berserker just adds a flat damage amount to melee attacks, so I plan to pass on that. I'm mostly taking Champion for the Superiority buffed Warcry to knock around enemies, but if my two big melee attackers are talent-spamming 2-handers, should I bother keeping Rally active? Once I get to Awakening I plan to take Spirit Warrior because I've seen it do disgusting things with other Warrior builds I've tried.

As far as buffs from party members, I'm assuming the flame and frost weapon mage buffs aren't all that spectacular on 2-hander warriors, but is telekinetic weapons still a good buy for my origins mage? If so should I keep it up all the time or just switch it on for tough enemies? And for my bard, should I just keep Song of Valor on at all times and ignore Song of Courage? It seems like stamina regeneration is a really big deal for a talent-spamming main character.

Lets see if I can help.

Party make up dosnt really matter, I even know people who completed Nightmare difficulty solo as a Two-hander.
Origin, Dwarf Noble is really good for Warriors due to starting stats, magic defense in general and also if you sell your items to Gorim in Denerim he will pay you twice as much as any other merchant.

Specs wise,
Berserker is to be avoid since it adds +8 damage per attack but also drains your Stamina.

Champion/Templar is a fairly common cookie cutter build and taking Champion early helps with Two-Handers intial probalem hitting targets often.  Warcry is great but Rally is very expensive stamina wise and on a talent spaming build its detrimental towards efficiency.

Templar offers good anti-magic capabilities, mental resistance, a good aoe crowd control ability and of course easiest access to gear to make your character 100% Spell Immune.

I would suggest considering Reaver/Templar though.  Reaver has the warriors only heal, a long duration stun, and a decent always on aoe damage ability. The Final reaver ability is to be ignored though since its adds +1 damage for every -10% health you are below maximum.

For Attributes I suggest Cunning at bare minimum needed to get 16 total with the bonuses from the Fade (+5). Which is 11, but if you deicide to get Champion spec keep in mind this adds +1 so you can start with 10 if this is how you want to go.  every single other point you get in the game (3 per level) put them all into Strength as a Two-Hand Warrior. This boosts Damage, Chance to Hit, Physical resitance, and allows you to meet all your Gear requirments. It really is the most optimum you can build. I like to add Willpower/Stamina as bonuses from gear.

As a warning, Two-Hand takes alot of patience. Intialy for about the first quarter of the game you may struggle with it as it literaly is a talent spaming build. You should NEVER be auto attacking as a twohander. Until you get enough talents to have a good rotation this is a cause of concern. Also intialy because of its slow attack speed you will have issues hitting targets. Plan for this by picking up Precise Striking intialy to help.

As for weapons....The Axe you get from Witch Hunt is great, Starfang is killer. But also if you have the "pranks" dlc the Butterfly sword you give to Sten is a great starter weapon as it has a decent +attack attribute on it.  Eventualy you will want to get the Chasind Great Maul towards later game. (Im also a fan of Nugcrusher from Return to ostagar DLC)

Armor....Executioners Helm+Provacateur Chest/Blood Dragon Chest+Wardens Legs+Cailens Gloves works wonders. This set can be gotten relativly early on.

This is my personal opinion but its rather useful for the early stages of the game to have a actual TANK in your group (usualy Alistair) to make some of teh encounters go more smoothly, particularly on higher difficultys.

Much appreciated, Last Darkness. I think that's pretty much everything I need to know. I'm really excited to give this build a shot.

No problem, its alot of fun but has a slow start that alot of people dont like.

Party members I can suggest that synch really well.

Wynne starts as a Spirit Healer, keep buffing her magic score and will at around 2/1 ratio as your progress and make her a Arcane Warrior. Have her run all the good arcane warrior debuffs and such along with the spirit healers healing aura.

Shale makes a great companion with a full Stone Aura tree as it provide the biggest party wide buff in the game.

Leilana or Zevran, focus on their cunning attribute and make them Bards. Bard/Assassin works great for melee characters. You can also make a cunning archer. (Should be info in my sig)

Thanks again.

I'm also glad you recommended some weapons, the whole strength modifier thing always throws me off when I'm trying to figure out what to use.

Some of the Best Two-Handers I know.

Elise Cousland - Origins

Yrkoon Cousland - Origins
Yrkoon Cousland - Awakening

Also for a Two-Hander you want Evons Armor Endgame.
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Evon_the_Great%27s_Mail
Combined with Wades Superior Gloves and Boots.
Helm of Honneleath or Executioners Helm.
Is a great Two-Hander end game armor set because its incredibly low fatigue and Health/Stamina regen bonuses.
