Alister I mean, he had his little freak out when I decided not to waste Logain, a pragmatic choice sure but I have been the one making all the choices.
I spared Alister getting himself executed and I'm sure he's off pouting, and hopefully killing Darkspawn. But what I really want to know is if he's coming back, and if not, can I get the gear I had on him back, I really liked that helmet.
So uhhh... does whatchamacallit come back?

Well, you get his gear back if you let him be executed. It ends up in a chest in his room. You won't see him in Origins, although he will have a cameo in DA2.

If you want to exile Alistair but keep his gear, i suggest stripping him of everything he has on and putting him in crap gear you won't miss before the Landsmeet. otherwise, mike is right, you only get it back when you execute him.

Hes gone and never comes back, usualy hes spoekn of as a wandering drunk.
Of course that depends on his hardend or unhardend status.
You cant keep Alistair and Spare Loghain. Its one or the other.
You can however with a Hardend Alistair have him Marry Anora and become King and spare Loghain but Alistair will still leave your party. (I actualy like this scenario for the landsmeet)
But as stated you will need to load a earlier save and ither kill Loghain or strip Alistair.
