I recently became aware of exactly how much the quarians were losing out by fighting the geth due to an incredibly insightful comment by a person going by the name "titanicbodyparts" on a youtube video of Kal'Reegar's first sighting of Legion on Tali's recruitment mission.

"Hello Quarians, Look at yourselves, Now back to us, Now back at yourselves, BACK TO US, Sadly you hate Geth, But if you stopped hating, We could eventually come to a truce. Look down, back up. Where are you? Your on your home world, with your family and everyone you love. We took care of it. Whats on your head? Back at us, we have it, The helmet you don't need anymore, Now look again, the helmet is now eezo. Everything is possible when you give Geth a chance. We live in space stations. "

consider the possibilities.

They ain't all hatin'.

Legion sure loved killing Quarians while he was gaming, though, might want to have a little talk first, just to be safe.

"Give peace a chance" - isn't that a Yoko Ono song? :)

The quarians are the only side that has actively tried to reach out to their adversary and request peace. The geth have done nothing but kill anyone who comes near them.

It really frustrates me that more people don't understand this.

The geth have done nothing to engender peace. NOTHING!

The quarians have. That was the point of the whole trial. Sure, some of them want war, but others want peace and their whole motivation was to make sure the geth knew that by condemning Rael's research and the war effort.

Where is the geth equivalent? There just isn't one.

The problem is, until Legion showed up and explained otherwise no one was in a position to know that. The few diplomatic ships sent after the uprising were destroyed the moment they crossed into Geth space, and 'shoot first, compute pi later' does seem to be their default response. That the Quarians are openly hostile towards them isn't particularly surprising.

Well I guess creating them as a slave race and then trying to exterminate them later doesn't qualify as reasons for the geth to fight back...

Quarians "hating" the geth is justifiable. Quarians made the geth in the first place and the geth killed the quarians almost to extinction. If the geth only attacked the quarian military for trying to kill then, that would have been undestandable. But there is no excuse for killing billions of civilians. I do support the peace between the two. But if I have to take sides I will pick the quarians.

Self defense only goes so far. The Geth slaughtered the Quarians by the billions.

It was defense for trying to deactivate all geth.  The geth saw it as an act of war.  The best defense logically is to completely eradicate the enemy.  Quarians brought this on themselves.

The geth may be living but they are machines.  The smartest way to defeat the enemy is to eradicate them, they did that.  Also remember that these were primitive geth models who were barely digesting the concept of soul.  I believe that the geth are evolving and developing more organic qualities such as morals.

the Quarians attempted genocide. the Geth responded in kind but pulled the last punch. You''l notice that the Geth didn't send any hunter-killer teams after the Migrant Fleet. WHile the Quarians keep raiding the area beyond the veil.

This wouldn't even be a problem if the quarians hadn't tried to deactivate them all, which to the geth was an attempt of genocide on their entire race, so in this case the quarians got off easy in my opinion. The geth were well within their rights to completely exterminate the quarians for trying to completely wipe them out for no good reason other than the geth asking if they had souls. I also find it understandable for the geth to have adopted their isolationist stance towards organics, the last time they were associated with organics they were nearly exterminated.

If peace is imposible in ME3, Shepard should fire some EMP at Rannoch. That would free the planet for the quarians.

It's not genocide if they are robots.

you do realize that HUMANS are robots too, right? just quite a bit more complex than currently possible for robots and constructed of non stereotypical materials.
