For DA3, if Bioware had to choose between a having a voiced protagonist and allowing the player to choose the race of his character, what would you prefer?

Definitely voiced. Don`t even think about going back to the mute.

If it means a set-race, then so be it, even if it would had to be the ugly elves. But i would rather continue with Hawke if possible.

you would be the minority then. i hope bioware gives hawke an offscreen death

I'm meeting so many people who seem to be able to speak for everyone else these days.

I'm of the opinion that "Voiced protagonist and no race choice (like in DA2)" and "Silent protagonist and race choice (like in DAO)" are equally outmoded. People want to play different races and yet having a silent protagonist feels like a step backwards (though I'm sure some of the oldschool purists would love it).

That leaves "Voiced protagonist and race choice but with the same voice for every race" as the only sensible option for balancing the games budget and player choice.

I am wondering which monetary investment in making DA games was greater; all the extra work around multiple playable races and different origin stories or the fees of voice actors for manHawke and femHawke. The option with less money spent will always be favored.

Ignored child in the corner says "Pay $80 for the next Dragon Age game, get all races and voice acting."

I agree.

One voice actor for multiple races

The problem is that this person needs to be diverse.

He (and she) needs to be able to voice a qunari, a human, a dwarf, a elf, and a darkspawn (that's just an idea I thought of while thinking about origins).

Yup, we'll need one good mutherf'ckin VA. Any suggestions, people?

Wouldn't a single voice actor be efficiently the same as 10 voice actors?
I mean..those synchronization studios have contracts with lots of voice actors and I'm pretty sure that they are primarily paid by the number of spoken lines/words, not by the number of voice actors.
So if they really took one person to voice them all, it had to be done in one recording for all of them, not 3 for 3 races or such.
And I guess that it'd be hard to find a voice that could be the one of a qunari, a dwarf, a human and an elf, especially in the international versions.

I would take playing as a qunari over a voiced protagonist any day.

Speeking for myself I like to feel that I am part of the game not just some monky pushing buttons to get a responce. so if it costs more to make then I am willing to pay more to own it

I'd prefer voiced protagonist over silent, any day of the week, and I don't really care about race selection. I'm just as happy playing a human as I am playing an elf, or a dwarf, or whatever.

Voiced,in DA:O my characters always felt as if they had no emotions.

In DA2 there were quite some moments were i felt sorry for hawke.

I'll put a premium on race choice. If getting race choice means that I have to live with DA2 style voice and dialogue (even with the same voices for every race), then so be it.

Race choice please.

I like voiced protagonist's. Silent protagonist's are a PC gaming thing and both silent protagonist's and PC gaming are dying.

Really?  I'm playing FF7 and have the other FF on my PS3 and still think FF7 is the best game I've ever played plus I'm sure my friend who is playing Rift at the mo would disagree that pc gaming is dying.

Then why are so many developers and publishers bringing their previously pc exclusive franchises to consoles? Because that is where the money is and PC gaming is dying. It is only old people who play PC now and are dinosaurs in this day and age.

Rofl I wouldn't call my mate a dinorsaur.  As far as I'm aware from having a wee go on Rift it has all ages and sexes playing it.  If your correct then the likes of WOW, Guild Wars etc will be coming to consoles then.

As long as the choices are REAL and I get to mold my main character I don't really care if it is voiced or not.

With that said, taking away race selection was a huge mistake.

You have three races and two genders to choose from why don't they just allow us to pick a race, and record 6 voices. 3 voices for the males, 3 voices for the females. Best of both worlds. Silent protagonists are a thing of the past. I preferred Hawkes voice overs to the Grey Wardens non speaking part.

Voice. With a ton of race choices the story gets watered down to a point where the race doesn't matter beyond personal aestethic preferences.

...plus if everyone else in the game is going to have a voice, I want the protagonist to have a voice too.

Yep yep, agree with the above.

If race selection is handle like it was in DAO, it's not really something I will miss if it never returns. And the Warden not having a voice when everyone else did really bothered me. It worked in older games with less cinematics and where you didn't have to stare at the protagonist face and where, for the most part, the other characters only had a few voiced lines at the beginning of every conversation.

Another reason I like a voiced protagonist is that they actually show emotion. It makes them more reactive for me and I'll enjoy the game more.

I'd prefer to have multiple race origins with just the one voice. Say all the origins grew up in the same city (Val Royeaux?) so they all have the same accent and it can be written off that they have the same voice despite racial selection being present. They could still have pretty diverse Origin stories in different parts of a city if they do a better job making it feel like a city than some other cities they've done...

(of course, there are other means by which they could contrive it-- Seekers raising orphans from birth, memory wiped like Fenris, raised by wolves, etc)

If I understand correctly that they won't budge on the matter of it being voiced and they won't budge on the race selection issue if it means 8-10 protagonist voice actors because that wouldn't be economically viable, this seems like the only way to have voice and race selection, and I like both of those.

This. A thousand times, this! Race options and a good, story-justified reason for having the one voice for all races. Perfect!

Non voiced.

I want to create MY character. I do not want to play Biowares character. More origins, more customization, more classes, more, more more.

As it is i haven't bought DA2, and I doubt I ever will. Perhaps they can revitalize the series by going back to Origins style, but that remains to be seen.

I still feel so sad when I consider all the great stuff Bioware created with with DA:O being trivialized and dumbed down in Awakenings and then utterly destroyed in DA2. :(

Why do we have to chose either? What not for DA3 have 4 protagonists that team up. A dwarf (rogue or warrior) a human (mage, rogue or warrior) an Elf (rogue or Mage) and a Qunari (Warrior or Mage) These core members have their own "Origin story," have their own spoken diologue, but all meet up with each other for the main plot.
