For DA3, if Bioware had to choose between a having a voiced protagonist and allowing the player to choose the race of his character, what would you prefer?

They can take away the character creator while they're at it. It won't make a difference, it's the same character anyways. It's like having a forced skin color/hair style/something.

Unvoiced -- as is the proper term -- is the best approach as long as the character is not fixed.

I reckon Bioware should keep the nonvoiced protagonist (but maybe without the race choice) problem is they seem way too afraid that they'll 'lose their large casual audience' or something.

I'm just afraid they would rather make money and get a massive audience than make a good game, DA 2 should have been way less mediocre =/

EDIT: Not saying race choice is bad, they could still do it in some games, same with the voiced protagonist I suppose...

I'd rather the game go back to the non-voiced character. Felt more like an old school rpg that way, and that's what I love about Origins.

Same voice character for all classes to start with...However if player wants a voice of another race they can buy the pack as a dlc..6 voices is a lot of work

Not surprised to see DA:O style silent and choices as the favourite.

I suppose you just added votes from two separate answers to get that results ?
Lol great, great reasoning. Maybe this poll will help you:

I looked at the polls and non voiced with choices was winning. So according to the polls, no voiced isn't the preferred choice.

Voiced, fem hawke sounded sexy! Anyone know where the voice actor came from and what accent is it? Plus, voiced main protagonist gets involved in the party banter which is very funny.

I prefer voiced.  I've never really felt like being silent ever "put me in the game" as some devs think it does.  A silent protagonist is still left with only the pre-determined responses that the devs come up with for conversations, so I don't feel like having them be silent would put me in the experience since the available options may or may not be something I'd say.

A little summary of the result so far with 210 voters for the preferred combination and 173 for the least favourite combination:

The favorite combination so far is the Silent protagonist and race choice with 40% of votes; however it is the least favorite of 35% of voters which is not really good.
The voiced protagonist and race choice (but with the same voice for every race) has a little bit less supporter (33% of votes) but is the least disliked (it is the least favorite of only 20% of voters) which make it a rather good compromise between the players that really want race choice (or even better: origin choice) and player that really want a voiced protagonist. Having this system for DA3 with the possibility to turn off the voice of the protagonist could even please more players. It would mean getting rid of the paraphrasing system but this system was really hated by many players (even within the voiced protagonist lovers).
Voiced protagonist and no race choice option seems to be the worst option as it is the favourite of only 20% of the voters and it is the least favourite of 41% of them. I hope that the developers won’t repeat the mistake of choosing this option for DA3.

When combining both race choice options it appears that about 73% of the voters want to be able to choice the race of their protagonist.
When combining both voiced protagonist options it appears that 53% of players would like to have a voiced protagonist. It is more than what Hello There obtained in his poll but I see multiple possible explanations for that. One of them could be that when answering to Hello There’s poll some people have voted for the silent protagonist because they really do not want to play a predefined protagonist.

Yeah combine both polls results (your and Hello there) and the conclusion is clear.
Looks like listening to voiced protagonist isn't more enjoyable than having choice of multiple races.
Oh well I am not surprised at all.

I'm 100% sure we will not see any non-voice protagonist in future BioWare games.

Considering I prefer a silent protagonist over a voiced one, obviously I'd choose the races here.

Yeah more like for the silent protagonist, BUT ...

... but even with 50/50 (equal) split my statement "isn't more enjoyable" is still valid isn't it ?

If I could pick, I would choose race selection (human, dwarf, elf) always over a set character (only for the repay value), like DA:O. While a voiced PC might have some merits, it didn’t worked out for me in DA:2. Paraphrasing gives you only a small hint what your PC actually might say. However if conversation is like the Witcher I that’s IMO not bad.

Choosing race. This is one type of game that I prefer with silent main character. It allows for more role-playing. Like including dialogue options which are basically same, but are slightly different (different people have different ways of saying "i must go now" for example).

Voiced protagonist, and I don't really care about race. I usually play a human if I have a choice, regardless.

I would prefer a silent protagonist in DA 3 and all the options given back to the players that were presented in the flagship game of the franchise.

DA 2 was an uncomfortible Frankenstein experiment of combining a traditional player-customization-heavy Bioware game with a set protagonist title. The carnage from that crossover is fairly hideous giving the limited replayability of a set origin/race combined with the limiting factors of having the main protagonist so set in stone and unable to make major plot decisions or give many dialogue answers which were more than a slightly flavored way of saying the same thing.

DA 2 was not the kind of game I would be willing to pay for, ever.

Yes i'll say " silent is enjoable as voiced " so it means BW is screwed up.
Considering that community reaction to change is this , i cannot see how they can solve this without generating a tantrum of gigantinc proportion from half of their community

Voiced. They did a great job when it came to customizing a personality for Hawke and rolling with it. The system could use some refining and a couple of call backs from the Silent Protagonist (attribute scores effecting dialogue options). But overall I say it was a success and that Bio Ware should improve it rather than make something new/go back to old. That indeed was the innovation that Mr. Laidlaw likes to bring up so much. I'm not a fan of the shift in direction from DA:O, but hey I give credit where it's due.

Edit: spelling
