Indeed. They all have the same face.

actually, they're all slightly different from each other

In what way? #4 seems the only one that is noticably different, at a glance anyway. Even then it might just be the hair.

I love how, overnight (at least for those of us here in Japan) this thread turned into a "the OP hates blondes" or, in some not so thinly veiled cases "the OP hates white/ aryan looking people and thinks we're all Hitler"

This is not the case. I don't hate blondes, and I certainly don't hate white people. I do, however, hate that women who look (somewhat, I definitely don't believe myself to be of supermodel status)like me have only very recently been acknowledged to be attractive in our own rights. Is it really so wrong of me to be disappointed that a beautiful woman of color was voted down in favor of, whether you like it or not, the traditional standard for beauty?

Maybe it is. I am human, after all, and I was excited to think that maybe the gaming community was ready to embrace a new definition of feminine strength and beauty, one that might possibly be attainable by women like me. I allowed for that in my original post- noone is above childishness or bitterness, at least I know I'm not, and losing sucks.

For all of you saying "it doesnt matter, create your own!" Yes, you're right. I said that too, in the original post. What makes me sad is that we have a FemShep face for the world to see... and she looks (again, imo) like almost every other face already out there.

On the contrary, I feel #4 is something you'd find quite often.

She looks(to me at least) completely unnatural.

Like a model who puts way too much make up on, way too much stock in her appearance. Hell she has a red streak in her hair.

To me, she doesn't look like a warrior at all. She looks like someone I'd see modeling clothes.

#5 on the other hand? She looks like a warrior to me. Someone who not only CAN kill, but WANTS to.

And people will disagree. That's just the way life is. You disagree with the most voted for choice. That's fine.

But that's it. The more you focus on disappointment, the more disappointed you're going to be.

In other words, move on. For the betterment of yourself.

*inb4someonesaysGetOverIt*

And last but not least, as to the final sentence, seeing as Blondie doesn't look like anyone in the ME universe, and that's what's important, she's not at all like every face out there.

As a matter of fact, she's one of a kind. And that's part of the appeal.

But personally, I'd rather have a one of a kind Shepard that looks the part;not one that looks like she posts half-naked pictures of herself on the extranet.

But again, maybe that's just me.

*shrugs*

All have different little details, whether its jawline, nose, definition, etc etc.

Look at the close ups and you'll notice them.

I have a serious question.

Suppose we ran another femshep poll and only women who play Mass Effect are permitted to vote. Do you all think the result would be different?

And can anyone think of a way beyond the honor system to run such a poll, because all of a sudden I'm curious to see how it would turn out.

It does seem odd it was such a big win for the blonde. Especially since the close-to-canon version has been a redhead. I would have expected it to be a closer call.

I didn't vote for her, and my first reaction was a bit like the original poster in this thread, but I suppose Mass Effect has really had too little blonde so far, so it should be refreshing.

Not really(as to it being different).

Hell, one of the lame excuses people used was, "Anyone on facebook who didn't play the game could've voted".

Well, on the BSN the vote here was almost EXACTLY the same.

So whether any Dick and Harry voted or not, it didn't change a thing.

I doubt changing the votes via sex would matter.

I don't think the poll would turn out any different. The minority on BSN is just incredibly loud, especially when they don't get their will.

Edit: And leaving out men would be completely silly - I'm guessing quite a bit of the FemShep players are actually male. I know I have two FemSheps, so excluding me from the poll would be nonsensical.

Yeah I know about the Clark Doll thing. And it make perfect sense. When I actually sat back and thought about what I would want Shep to look like it was not number five. But I voted for her. It was my gut reaction.

I guess I've just been trained to go for blondes. I'm okay with it. I like blondes.

My personal femshep is a brunette with a shaved head though. I like to call her a 'bald lesbian space marine' because I like the gender reversal of the stereotype.

I don't care about you or your childs hair color. You are of the opinion that we are too dumb to vote for the true female hero of the game and instead chose the "Barbie".

Of course it's sad for you, that your favorite didn't make it, but you really shouldn't be so bitter.

I acompletely agree. With all due respect, the whole point of this thread (from the very title) is to whine out of frustration while throwing jabs at the personal choice of the majority of the comunity.
I don't mean to be mean but

As a footnote, I'm not into blondes :D.

Hey, people who think blonde is equal to that stuff, clearly aren't familiar with the history the frikkin' Vikings.

There was a time when a tall, blonde haired warrior stepping off a boat was a harbinger of doom.

And another thing. Though I did vote for #5, her hair color was the lowest thing on my list of consideration. In fact, I think she'd be very striking as a brunette. Pale complexion + dark hair = win.

I find it a fascinating and sad study that shows black girls choosing the white doll majority of the time while still identifying with the brown doll.

I would say bioware did their little own Clark Doll experiment without intending.

also I want to add I did vote for the blonde.  Image IPB

I would be more interested in a poll with #5 and the red/black/brunette re-colours being voted on.

IMO I don't think blonde would be such a clear winner if she won at all.

For the ones saying they wanted the hair style but preferred another color, please vote in the poll in my sig.. Maybe if we get enough votes (as of now it doesn't look like it xD), BioWare might consider setting up a 2nd voting round for the hair color.

I don't disagree in general; but the idea of the poll would be to gage the female player's mindset.  Some men (myself included) will sometimes play a femshep.  I have one mostly just for variety, it's not a political statement for me or anything, sometimes I just want to change up the game's experience a bit.

However, let's be honest and admit that one thing Bioware wants is to cater to their female players as well as male players.  There's nothing wrong with them doing that, and that femshep is clearly something that the female player base likes and wants.  It's a feature that all players can enjoy, but I think was really targeted at one section of the player base in general.  I am merely curious if their views would turn out to be significantly different from the views of the whole player base.  And let's face it, while there are a more women playing this game than I ever would've guessed, Mass Effect players are still predominately men.  So if there is a difference in viewpoint between the men and women who play this game, that fact gets lost by a poll that's open to both.

Blonde was considered 'exotic' back in the day.  Its a ressesive trait and before the advent of cheap peroxide, rare.  Angels and gods and so forth were usually blonde in classical renderings.  Or redheads (for pretty much the same reason).

Blonde people aren't better.  They're just prettier.  No big deal.

Since when is Shepard only her hair color?

This is an idiotic thread.

Clearly every woman with blonde hair is a moron, and a barbie - right?

In fact, you would go so far as to say that blonde women (particularly those with long hair) should be automatically rejected instantly if they apply to join the army, right?

Oh and the feminist movement has been set back 40 years because women want to play as a character with long hair - right?

Options 1, 2, 3, and 5 essentially all had an identical face, and the only real thing to distinguish them was their hair. It would appear from comments posted with votes, that the vast majority who selected 5 did so because they liked that hair design the most (length + style), but not necessarily the colour.

Is anyone else tired of this argument? It's just a picture on the back of a box. Not even the normal edition at that.

It's always going to just descend into bickering over who does and doesn't like either blondes or any of the choices available due to their apparent youth.

Mind you people seemed happy to repeat themselves for over 100 pages the last time.

I'm a heterosexual male who's "canon" Shepard is female.  I picked femshep #5 because she mostly resembles my version of femshep (both have blond hair, blue eye's and a relativity pail completion).  I guess all you femshep #5 haters can just....

So much hate for us blondes, sheesh.  I'm trying to think of some female lead characters with blonde hair, the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head is Samus.  There's already plenty of non-blonde leads in video games.

In all seriousness, the stereotyping, the blonde chicks are stupid sh*t, needs to stop right now. I'm surprised the mods let this petty kind of complaint continue.
