For my money, the blond FemShep, who is the closest to my own Shepard, looks the least done up and the most natural. I choose her for that reason.

TBH I'm having a hard time coming up with many existing blonde action heroines...except for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I guess Supergirl

i honestly dont see why people hate blonde femshep. shes the exact same character throughout the trilogy. The exact same character as the other 5 candidates during the votes. While I would've rather had an updated default plainjane femshep update, its not the end of the world.

Derrrrrrp.
Do you have any idea how ridiculous you look when you say stuff like that? Are you not being incredibly shallow and 'blonde' yourself? The idea that people only chose her because she is blonde is so far off the mark. People made that selection because out of the all the options on the table, she looked the most 'undone' - She isn't made up in any way at all. The hair is naturally flowing and messy; she doesn't have lots of make-up on. She looks as if she's about to go into battle. Besides, people have already said that they would have chosen her 'model' even if she'd had different colour hair, so any argument you think you have is flawed from the outset.
If this was about skin colour, people would be throwing a fit and crying racism. Funny how hair colour gets completely overlooked, even though the attitudes a lot of you have are just as offensive.

TBH I'm having a hard time coming up with many existing blonde action heroines...except for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I guess Supergirl, brunette or black seems to be the stereotypical 'tough girl' image. So while I understand the disappointment about a white/blonde chick as the covergirl, I do actually think it's nice to see a blonde action heroine for a change. Blondes are more associated with glamour and fashion than kicking ass.

That's because there aren't many. People are so stuck up with the idea that a blonde is a stereotype and represent lack of intelligence and a Barbie generation. When a blonde is in fact quite rare in today's games, and representing one of our first and most badass female protagonists we've had in video games, Samus Aran. But then the argument instead becomes that "we don't want another Samus Aran". Weird how one can't be beautiful and badass anymore.
Personally I'd prefer that hairstyle with red hair, but I'm completely fine with the blonde. Besides. We haven't even seen the final version of her yet. As far as I'm concerned, that's just a stock image to show how she'd look like without the grime of war. I'm expecting some grime in the final version.

That's a myth. Alleles for recessive traits will not become less prevalent because of outbreeding, not unless there is selection pressure against that trait.Dj_atomica wrote...
I'm only annoyed because blonde hair should by all rights be extremely rare 200 years into the future.
Suppose you have starting conditions with 100 million blondes in a population of 10 billion humans. If you match them randomly for a number of generations, you'll end up with 1 million blondes in 10 billion. That is comparatively rare, but
(a) it's not so ultra-rare that the appearance of a single blonde deserves special mention.

© This presupposes that people won't engineer their children to have blond hair, which I find very likely.
Apart from that, I'm OK with blonde Shepard, though I'm still hoping that they take the haircut but recolor it red.

There's a word for the attitude you describe. It's called jealousy.
I hope Bioware advertises the game in the manner that will sell the maximum number of copies. I hope that as part of that campaign, they include images of a female Shepherd. It would be really lovely if she looks attractive and appealing to women players, not just men players.
Her appearance on the cover is largely irrelevant to me as, if I'm allowed to, I will change her to suit my tastes when and if I play the game.

I have a low tech word for you: peroxide. There are no alleles for blue hair in the human genome currently, but I see someone with it almost every day.

I'd never even heard of Samus Aran until today, when I went past Penny Arcade.
But anyway, there does still appear to be a lot of discrimation around. For that reason alone I'm glad #5 won.

If I play ME3 I'd be creating my own Shep anyway, so the default hardly matters to me, but I do agree about the hairstyle, not the colour, being my favourite of those on display. Yeah, it's impractical, but so what? I like what I like.
Having that same style with red hair? That would have been awesome. I suspect if the redhead shep and blondie had switched hairstyles, red would have won easily.
