Got some real nonsensical comments in there.
A few are trying to twist the Penny Arcade Article to sound like they hate Blondie.
Some are saying the comic is admitting that Penny Arcade thinks Blondie is a barbie.
A few people even said that hardcore ME players chose the other choices but the ones who don't care about the game chose Blondie.

A large percentageof the people voting for the blonde femshep stated that they were voting more for the hair style and less for the actual color.

To be honest I didn't like any of them, something about the face..
Did I read through them all? No. Did I actually give percentages? No. Did I say the MAJORITY? No. Did everyone who chose femshep 5 do so for the hair style? Unanswerable. I do not pretend to know what evil lurks in the hearts of

Correction- If anything, this shows that maleshep is about substance and appearance(since he's modeled after a MODEL), while femshep is about substance and appearance(since people can just as easily vote for who looks the most like the FemShep in their mind as well as who's hotter).
On top of that, she's in marketing, on the tin case for the Collector's Edition, and is a high res model in the final game.
Definitely a triumph for gender equality.

You just have to be the smartest.

Number 5 had the best hairstyle by far. Give all the posters that hairstyle, give only ONE FemShep dark hair, and then we have a fair competition. As it is, it seems pretty obvious which was slated to win, even if that wasn't the case. It's a color that a lot of people seem to take as an inherent indicator of superiority. I think that's the reason for the prejudice--the fact that actual prejudice tends to be leveled against the rest of the world, not blondes, who are "more fun" and "preferred by gentlemen" and all of that good stuff.Lady Catastrophe wrote...
I just find this hatred for blonde Shep so childish.
If
Barbie was in fact an iconic ginger and all of these valley girl
stereotypes and 'dumb blonde' jokes were instead directed at people with
ginger hair, then it wouldn't make a difference in that case--people
would still be complaining about #5 if she just so happened to be a
redhead as she would look 'barbie-ish'.
It's just a colour,guys.
Redheads, on the other hand, do get teased a lot for the color of their hair as children, as opposed to blondes. Jews and people of African descent have been oppressed and killed. I don't think the world has completely recovered from that, and in that vein a bit of resentment is inevitable.
I don't mind that she's blonde so much as it's obvious she dyes her hair regularly, yet didn't even bother to fix her eyebrows.
i dont think she dyed her hair. alot of people has eyebrows that dosent match the hair color. my sister is one of those people:mellow:

That seems about right... But things aren't that simple is it? It's a good thing BioWare is open to suggestions, but only if it's appropriate. Fans definitely have the potential of ruining a franchise if devs listen to horrible ideas. I having nothing against blondes, but the concept feels too common. I wanted something a little more unique or at least different from what everyone is used to... Oh well.MacCready wrote...
My biggest beef with the competition wasn't the blonde Shep, it was the competition itself. Never ask fans what they want because the average fans opinion is usually completely arbitrary and generic! Bioware, you're the professional game designers and concept artists, you decide what's best. If you ask the fan what they want then every game would have 4 player co-op and horde mode regardless of whether it fit or not.
Ben Croshaw couldn't have put this point more perfectly,
"Fans are clingy complaining dip****s who will never ever be grateful for any concession you make. The moment you cut out their shrill tremulous voices the happier you'll be for it".

I'm only annoyed because blonde hair should by all rights be extremely rare 200 years into the future.
Suppose you have starting conditions with 100 million blondes in a population of 10 billion humans. If you match them randomly for a number of generations, you'll end up with 1 million blondes in 10 billion. That is comparatively rare, but
(a) it's not so ultra-rare that the appearance of a single blonde deserves special mention.
(It won't happen in 200 years. 2000 would be more like it.
© This presupposes that people won't engineer their children to have blond hair, which I find very likely.
Apart from that, I'm OK with blonde Shepard, though I'm still hoping that they take the haircut but recolor it red.
I have a low tech word for you: peroxide. There are no alleles for blue hair in the human genome currently, but I see someone with it almost every day.
*SHOOOOM* Look at that, the point completely rocketted past you at Mach 8!
Seriously though... wtf has that got to do with anything Ieldra just said?
Well, I'll preface this with 'I could be wrong' since that seems to carry the penalty of being loudly mocked, but I think mouse's point is this: Why in all the world do people arguing about blonde hair being a rare/non-existent trait in the ME future assume that blonde!Shep here is a natural blonde?
It's the bloody future. You think women suddenly stopped colouring their hair? You think contacts, or some ME equivalent, will stop being available for eyes?

It's also quite infuriating to be labeled 'an idiot' for voting for #5 when it's a personal preference thing, especially for a guy who usually likes brunettes.
And it's even more infuriating to see how the hair colour alone makes her a 'bland barbie', even more so when people mix in crap like 'the master race' thing. I'm blond, and I don't see myself superior to anyone, nor do any other blond people out there, unless you adhere to that special minority group.
So cut the slack people. Just because your favourite didn't get voted for doesn't make the rest of us 'stupid'.

I've already voiced my opinions on why I'm fine with whatever femShep looks like, but I'll say it again: in the end, it doesn't really solve BW's problem of attracting a new audience.
What Bioware needs to do to really attract female gamers is release a trailer like this. More women will buy a game that displays a level of customization and micromanagement. Unlike men (generally speaking) the ability to make a character that is unique to the woman it corresponds with will be very attractive to most *casual* females.
So why (in my opinion) won't the new femShep attract as many new female players as BW thinks it will? Because there is a distinct difference in a game with a female protagonist, and a game that appeals to women in general.
Heavenly Sword, Metroid, Lara Croft, Beyond Good and Evil, WET, FF X2, etc etc all have female leads. But that doesn't make them as attractive to women as men. They all deliver visual standards of how women should look, dress, and act (sometimes with unforgiving camera angles). And for all of these games (except Beyond Good and Evil), they still romanticize masculinity -- simply by dressing it up in female form. We don't consciously think about these things, but we do accept them.
Women like choices. Games like Sims, Farmville, and Cityville are very popular with the ladies. They offer a level of personalization that men (typically) don't demand in their games.
If Bioware showed a trailer like The Many Faces of Femshep -- leading into the new standard femShep model, that would attract a lot of new women to the franchise. Women would see that Mass Effect has more to offer than simply blow-sh!t-up-and-look-cool. It offers women choice. Choices in clothing. Choices in weapons. Choices in romances. Choices in dialogue.
You can dress Samus Aran in 50 lbs of armor and have her shoot aliens. But at the end of the day, she's just a merc killing stuff to your average casual gamer (who doesn't go onto gaming forums, look at reviews, and makes purchases on cover value).
You can make Lara Croft more vulnerable and less blatantly sexual by covering up her legs, giving her a pick axe, and smothering her face with dirt. But at the end of the day, the title "Tomb Raider" still brings to mind the busty sexy cave explorer from the 90s.
But think about what could be accomplished with femShepard, a character that a woman could tailor to her own preference.:)
Quoted for truth
Its like you read my mind this is a huge allure for me.
