That's the thing right. Use your fans as a think tank (with enough fans there are bound to be good ideas) but don't let them push you in a specific direction. Still, the choice for the promotional femshep isn't too big a deal for the actual game.Darth Death wrote...
That seems about right... But things aren't that simple is it? It's a good thing BioWare is open to suggestions, but only if it's appropriate. Fans definitely have the potential of ruining a franchise if devs listen to horrible ideas. I having nothing against blondes, but the concept feels too common. I wanted something a little more unique or at least different from what everyone is used to... Oh well.MacCready wrote...
My biggest beef with the competition wasn't the blonde Shep, it was the competition itself. Never ask fans what they want because the average fans opinion is usually completely arbitrary and generic! Bioware, you're the professional game designers and concept artists, you decide what's best. If you ask the fan what they want then every game would have 4 player co-op and horde mode regardless of whether it fit or not.
Ben Croshaw couldn't have put this point more perfectly,
"Fans are clingy complaining dip****s who will never ever be grateful for any concession you make. The moment you cut out their shrill tremulous voices the happier you'll be for it".

I have an extremely logical solution though...Why not just use Fem Sheps default appearance?

Why?
Cos thats the one Jennifer Hale likes and I reckon the Voice of FemShep knows better than us plebs.

Are you all telling me it was a dream?
The fact that she changed out of that dress that Kasumi got her as
soon as the mission was over and never gave it a second look must mean
she's some type of Barbie. (feel my sarcasm!)
She can't possibly be taken seriously even though she saved the galaxy because she has blonde hair.
Well, that's good to know.
I guess when I go to import on ME3, it'll just instantly take me to a "mission failure" screen. <_<

She's just the voice. That's it. She's just one person. Her opinion is not worth more than 30,000 others.

The problem I have is that there is a reason military people don't have long hair. ( I'm looking at you new Ashley). It's because it gets in your face and then gets you killed. Getting killed is not fun.
Also because it makes you stand out and you are suspossed to blend in.
Edit:
O.o well actually Ash could have her hair as long as she wants.....she just needs to keep it in a tight uniformed bun. And no hairs below her collar.

So because her hair color is blonde she is the poster girl for the neo-n@zi movement now? I have seen some insane rambling about this but this post is by far one of the more insane. The Twilight God wrote...
To sum it up...
People voted for a blonde over all the non-blondes by a very large margin for no other reason than that the blonde is blonde. Therefore, those people are all racist. So we must hate blonde femshep, the poster girl for the neo-**** movement. The end.
You know I was my telling my wife how much people were hating on blonde hair people over this and she did not believe me at all until I read some posts to her. I have brown hair and she has red btw.

And why not just go with the "default" female Shepard? These six don't look believable at all to me, considering that Shepard was a decorated veteran even at the start of the first game. They're too young, too "perfect". At least the "default" female Shepard doesn't look like a kid fresh from bootcamp.

Where... are you getting this from? Where are any of you getting the "hate" idea from in the OP? I never said blondes are stupid, or vapid, or anything other than the stereo typical face for feminine beauty. Yes I said "Barbie" and I really do regret it- it had implications that I didn't truly intend. When I said it- this is what was in my mind "wow- the blonde looks like nearly every other toy/ superhero/ model/ media approved face out there". If you disagree, fine, we're human, we (mostly) live in societies that embrace the ideas of freedom of thought and speech, but don't reduce me to the level of the author of that horrid piece in PC Gamer.

For the record, I also take issue with you implying that the people who voted for number 5 are any of:
Immature
Unaccepting
Not responsible
As your comment "Thanks for trying Bioware, but apparantly, we're not ready for that kind of responsibility yet" might indicate any of.
If I had to venture a guess as to why the caucasian options were vastly more popular than the others, it would simply be that the majority of the fanbase is caucasian. That does not mean that they are unaccepting of darker skinned people - it simply means that they want to play a character that resembles themselves.
Well, I feel sorry if I offended you personally with that comment. You seem nice, and as if you genuinely think about you're saying before you type it. And I'm willing to concede that maybe 25% of the voters were men and women who said "hey, that femshep looks like me/ my sister/ mom/ g/f / wife/ whatever! Awesome!" and voted for her. However I think many (possibly most) of the people wo voted for her are at least oneof those things. Mostly just young men whosew knee jerk reaction was "the blonde is hawt!!!!" and voted for her. And I know that a million posters will jump on here and tell me how racist and wrong I am for the next comment, but I honestly believe that if many voters are truthful with themselves they will find that they had less a problem choices 4 & 6's hair (and I'm also willing to concede that 4's hair was, while pretty, silly, and that any drill SGT/ Instructor worth his or her salt would've ripped her a new one for it) and more a problem with being able to concieve of the fact that the official femshep could be a woman of color. I don't think this makes them racist, but you said it yourself- most gamers are caucasian and therefore they want a caucasian protagonist. Understandable, but still a bit limited, and yes not willing to be inclusive.

Well, she also has a very generic and standard desirable 20 something year old face with a sexy expression.
Odds are, Bioware wanted everyone to choose her so they could boost sales 2%, so they made her the only one that was extremely attractive out of the bunch....Thats right people, everyone who voted has been used and dooped.

The 'my choice'-link links to blonde Shepard. What a missive fail on your behalf.
And honestly I couldn't care less. There's more important things in life (and even Mass Effect) than worrying about a main characters' hair color.
edit: The fact is, that most people who plays Mass Effect doesn't give a flying **** about Femshep, so you should be happy that Bioware even bothers including that feature. I would personally prefer that Bioware scrapped the ability to play as a female, and included more planets, missions etc.
And as someone already mentioned you can still create your own Shep.
mind explaining how scrapping a tiny feature that probably takes .00000000001 mb of space gonna help give you more planets and missions?
