I guess with the Reapers being at earth in a few days prompted FemShep to get a do-over and go blonde. Not like she had nothing imminent or important happening. Maybe she thought Harbinger was into blonde chicks

Uh-huh.  Any more nonsense to share?

I'm not sure if its nonsense....I'm sure a large portion of the fanbase would agree with me. It's not like she's just putting her hair down like Ashley. Of course, then there is the James Vega topic, but that's off topic for this thread

Aren't they? If you're going to save the galaxy, you might as well do it with epic highlights. :wizard:

Ugh. I'd point out Samus Aran, but she got ruined, too.

I don't like FemShep's voice and I don't like her model. I always thought she was soundly unattractive and no matter how much fiddling I did with the sliders, I couldn't make her attractive. And that was important to me as I would be seeing her face in cut scenes over the next 50 hours of game play. Maybe I'll have an easier time with the new model and I might even get past the first 3 hours as FemShep this time.
So personally, I'm happy Bioware changed her, even if she is becoming a poster model more than a tough looking solider.
However, being in the military myself, I can say that I have seen many attractive female soldiers. So the new FemShep being attractive doesn't make her any less capable. And those attractive female soldiers I mentioned? Some were tougher than the males. So yeah, once again, I am happy about the model change and I think that in a few months after release, others will be, if not happy, then at least used to the idea.

What about Hale's voice was unattractive to you? lol I'm not gunna argue with what you do or do not like but I'm curious to know if you can pinpoint it some.

Most people seem to dig her performance. I know I do. And I can tell you why Meer's performance was offputing for me at first (didn't emote as much as I was used to coming from Hale).

Any thoughts?

Maybe there aren't too many blonde protagonists but... They all have the same face haircut.

You know, Shimmer_Gloom, now that you ask, I can't really explain. To start with, to me, she never did seem to have the right inflection in her tone, like she was reading the lines, but there was no feeling involved. And then, the more i played male Shep, the more I fell in love with Meer's voice and was unable to stand Hale's. To the point where it sounded like glass against a chalk board. I do however know that a lot of people find her voice attractive and consider her to be an exceptional voice actor. Just like a lot of players consider FemShep's model to be appealing. I just can't understand why. But then, if everyone liked the same things, there would be no diversity and the world would be a very grey place.
I'm glad that out of the two, I was able to love one of them. And that is what matters and keeps me playing the game over and over. :)

O.O Liisi, I know why I like blond Shep! The model reminds me of Cloud from Final Fantasy VII! I always did love Cloud

Good to hear that first-hand. Hopefully that will shut down particular criticism (who am I kidding :/)

Personally? I voted for, um, I think either #5 or #3, either way, I did not vote for "Blone Shepard", but I'm happy for those who got what they wanted.

'Sides, I got my Mountain Dew White Out, any other fan vote from here on is pretty much "meh".

And I guess we better forget all those terribly distracting side quests then ;) You know the staples of a good RPG.... No time for that..... Stop talking to your crew, we have Reapers to kill.... in fact no fun for you gamers, this is serious sh*t..........................;)

Naw she's just trying to look good before the military trial. Looking pretty won't hurt her chances unless these judges are from the BSN. :P

Looking through my videogame library I see lots of different ethniticies among both protagonists and antagonists, so I find your comment offensive given that it's a purely subjective statement based on a specific race you don't want to

lol come on, lets be realistic here. Are you just trying to argue with that person, not to derail this thing going on a whole other tangent, but the massive slant towards white males or females as protagonist in video games can not be denied.

I'm just getting tired of the same bull being pulled about a certain race being used all the time in games when the majority of games I play either has

a) undefined race (as in you never see it because you never see the protagonist or he/she is covered up in armor or other stuff covering everything).
B) modifiable race, as in you choose yourself how you are going to look.
c) a race that doesn not exist in our modern world. (ie, elves, or robot or whatever)

The attitude against 'specific races' (whatever the side of the fence, cause it happens equally on both sides) is getting tiring sometimes. Hell, I just recently bought the GTA series on a deal and there it even jumps back and forth between each of the titles I got which race the protagonist is.

To me, the 2 others have far more 'flowy' and misty hair than female shepard.

Shepard looks like she is doing stuff that gets her sweaty. The others look like they just got their hair styled. O certainly prefer the 'sweaty' look for a soldier.

at least imo.

here's the thing...everyone is voting for blondie (I can say it!) but they are all comenting on how they want the hair colour to be different so those votes can't really matter since BioWare won't put a "choose a hair colour vote" now are they? They should just go with #3, who was my vote.

But if they choose blondie (I can still say it), they should at least give us the option to play as the FemSheps who came in 2nd and 3rd place, but just not featured ini the cover, trailer etc.

LOL, FemShep and Lightning (I have no idea who the f*ck that is in the middle) are also simular in personality, not afraid to punch people full in the face. XD

But really, my hair is shoulder length, and I get half strangled by it when there's wind. Like hell I would have it long if I was gonna be in fire fights all the time. :P But that femshep does have less 'misty/floaty' hair compared to the other two, and as someone else said, it looks tattered and sweat-mattered, like she's actually been fighting.
But in all, if you don't like it, then don't use it.

I didn't hate the looks of the character, (Here's the selection, for anyone who hasn't already seen it.) and I thought it was pretty cool that Bioware let the fans help pick the design, but I can't help feeling just a tad disappointed in us, the community.  Really guys?*  They offered us one Combat Barbie amid 6 women (all of whom seemed to look a lot younger than shep's 29-31 yrs depending on how you view the timeline, but hey, that's Hollywood baby) and we went with the Barbie?  Granted, the tousled hairdo was cool and seemed to fit the Shep persona, and most of us femShepers will probably continue using our custom designs anyway, but it's still a small blow to see a gaming company struggling to make strides in acceptance and inclusiveness feature a typical and cliched version of feminine strength and heroism.  Thanks for trying Bioware, but apparantly, we're not ready for that kind of responsibility yet.  Maybe you should've started us off with a goldfish, saw how we did with that, and went from there.

*guys is being used here to encompass all genders, fyi

edit:  I think the PC Gamer article sucks
but
I do agree with this one
just hoping to give a little insight as to why I feel the way I do.

Jack: Black hair.

Ashley: Black hair.

Miranda: Black hair.

Heaven forbid we have some variety. You're complaining solely because she's blonde-haired and not dark-haired. And then effectively call us morons for not having the same opinion as you. To you, she's a barbie solely because she has blonde hair. To you a woman having blonde hair doesn't make her a woman at all.

You don't like blonde-haired women, okay fine, whatever. Doesn't mean we have to agree with you.

Then again... maybe I'm just bitter that my choice was shot down...

Can someone please explain to me how the addition of blonde hair makes FemShep a "Combat Barbie"? Because she has long(ish) hair? #5 wasn't the only one with long hair, yet I don't see the same hatred leveled against #4 or #6. And the body type is exactly the same regardless of which face is used.

Honestly, I see so many people complaining about #5 looking too much like a fashion model. Do these people not realize that the default male Shepard for the last 2 games has been modeled after an actual Dutch fashion model? Yet I haven't heard anyone complaining about "Combat Ken"...
