Looking through my videogame library I see lots of different ethniticies among both protagonists and antagonists, so I find your comment offensive given that it's a purely subjective statement based on a specific race you don't want to

lol come on, lets be realistic here. Are you just trying to argue with that person, not to derail this thing going on a whole other tangent, but the massive slant towards white males or females as protagonist in video games can not be denied.

I'm just getting tired of the same bull being pulled about a certain race being used all the time in games when the majority of games I play either has

a) undefined race (as in you never see it because you never see the protagonist or he/she is covered up in armor or other stuff covering everything).
B) modifiable race, as in you choose yourself how you are going to look.
c) a race that doesn not exist in our modern world. (ie, elves, or robot or whatever)

The attitude against 'specific races' (whatever the side of the fence, cause it happens equally on both sides) is getting tiring sometimes. Hell, I just recently bought the GTA series on a deal and there it even jumps back and forth between each of the titles I got which race the protagonist is.

To cite something as bull is to deem it a false issue and not worthy of consideration.  Citing the majority of games you own rather than the majority of games that have been created to call bull on the issue is folly because you own but a sliver of what's actually out there.  To even think that you can make the statement you did on the issue based on what you own against what's out there is ridiculous.  By that token people are perfectly right in saying blonde Shepard is winning/won because she was voted on by horny males and only then taking into account the number of "hot/hawt" posts made in efforts to undermine the argument you are against.

The GTA series is not a series in which the protagonists are inherently positive because of the benefits they get from killing people.  You aren't a hero in those games.

Having a game that allows you to modify ethnicity doesn't mean much if the box offers an image of the hero as a particular gender or ethnicity.  No matter what, the ME movie will feature a Caucasian male Shepard and the only likely possibility of there being anything different is gender.

In any case I'm pulling for various ethnicities to be featured as positive protagonists in various media because it is still a rare occurrence and will continue to be so by looking at various developers.

I thought a short-haired version of Femshep would be more appropriate.

For combat-practicality anyway.

Oh dear. We have a real life Sheploo-with-rape-face now.

But I'm drifting off here.

Why is there so much hatred against blondies? I don't see it. Can anyone explain what makes them different?

Having developers use various ethnicities for main characters for the sake of diversity is almost just as bad as soley using caucasian protaganists. Not really saying you want that but it can happen. GTA does actually count when it comes to its protagonists. Just because they aren't some space marine saving humanity doesn't discount the characters.

Those characters have to go threw hell to take down all the ****s who have tried to hurt them and the people they love. Then they become rich and a little powerful. In a way the early GTA games are pretty much using the American dream as the objective but then GTA IV came along and pretty much gave you characters who are deeper and more grey in their morals.

I won't say most games doesn't have caucasian protaganists because that really depends on the types of games usually. FPS games have the most caucasian protagonists, RPGs vary wildly, and eastern games usually have more asian protagonists that half the time look very white.

I could say honestly that half of the games I own pretty much have different characters who either caucasian but not american or different color. Those games I like and I usually don't pay much attention to whether or not my character is caucasian or not. Well that's mostly because I can change my character's appearance in a few of my games lol.

The blonde femshep wins - or is winning?  Oy.  Here we go...

Well, then, just to keep it fair, the ManShep should be changed to blonde for equality's sake.  If the saviours of the galaxy have to be officially Nordically white, then, by hell and damnation, they should be the absolute whitest they can possibly be.  Make them not just Swedish, but UberSwede, Maximum Death's Head Whiteness, second language German.

What's the problem with blondes?  Well, many see them as just that - the whitest of white people.  There was a major European war to have that be the standard, after all - killed fifty million people.  "Aryan" something something...

Personally, I'm partial to redheads meself, they are absolutely sure-as-shoot'n under-represented as heroines.  Blondes are a friggin' dime-a-dozen, and boring as hell, to be completely honest, which I suspect is whence the honest objections actually are coming - at least from the thoughtful folks.

Do I want a blonde femshep?  Naw.  I was kinda hoping Bioware and its fans would try and avoid cliches, but most people live for them (and substitute them for actual thinking, but that's an argument for a different forum), so I'll just have to hope the character creation in the game is more robust and just change my FemShep to a ginger and go from there.

No muss, no fuss.

I'll just point out that what you've just written is absolutely ridiculous, and on top of that, rather offensive. To vote for a protagonist with yellow hair makes you tantamount to a white supremicist, or just plain shallow? Seriously? Get over yourself.

But don't take my word for it, 'cause apparantly I'm a bimbo, boring as hell, and a giant walking cliche. Sorry to offend you by my very existence.

Don't worry I tend to see posts like that as people who are just trolling others and really don't believe it.

That saves me from having to think that people can be mind boggingly stupid

I seriously don't understand how someone can look at one picture (unless it looks like something from Bayonetta) and then make all kinds of conclusions about it's statements on feminism and women and the gaming community. Last I checked, it wasn't bad or politically incorrect or boorish to be a youngish, blonde chick.  In fact, it means nothing except that she's a youngish, blonde chick.  Sheesh people.  I like this design.  I didn't like the others for no other reason except the utterly superficial one of "she looks cooler than the others."  Would it be better if she looked like Lara Croft?

Of course Blonde Shep' won, it was so obvious. A lot of women dye their hair blonde for a reason. If I was in the BioWare studio before they announced that I would of put down a hundreds dollars that blonde won. It was practically an unfair fight.

I agreed - at first.
But Miranda has long hair.
Jack has a belt bra.
And Samara's boobs are hanging out of her suit.

If they can pull it off, I can pull off long hair.

Personally i would like that she looks more like this:
Image IPB

But nobody can get what they will wish for, so deal with it

Yes! This hair looks even better, hope it's in the final release.

Not sure if anyone said it or have noticed, but #4 & #6 would have a hard time fitting in the standard issue N7 helmet. The "blonde" style also looks more... "natural" and fluid, like the picture of a combat scene in which she lost her helmet.

^The statement above is my sole opinion.

Yes, if you wear a hat or a helmet all day long and sweat in it and you have long hair, it's going to be all over the place once you remove it.

ETA: Not to mention, I kinda doubt that's what the Japanese and Italians were fighting for. It wasn't even why Germany was fighting. And if you truly believe that was a primary motivator behind Germany's actions....well, you're either a fool or need to read more. It's a ridiculously simplistic distortion of the actual history, not to mention the politics and sociology.

Well, it's not all bad. I like the shape of her face and the facial features in general. If, for whatever reason, I couldn't import my custom and I was forced to start with the default, I'd just change her hair/eye color. I have nothing against blondes, mind you. I just don't "see" Shep as being blonde.

Wow, I kind of think I like Ophiskc's edit of Blondie even more. And I was shaking my head at all the "change this!" comments going on since this contest started.

I don't expect that to be changed, but that hairstyle looks great too, as long as I'm seeing it right. Is her hair supposed to be tied back? I wouldn't like it if it's just supposed to be shorter.

The reason I picked her had nothing to do with hair color. I picked her because she had long all over the place hair. I've wanted a femshep like that for ages. I'd still have picked her if she had black or red or any other color hair. In fact, I actually like the images I have seen of this femshep as a redhead even better.

Stop being reasonable, this is the INTERNET!

But really, I feel the same way.  I voted for #6, but I did like the look of #5 except for the hair color.  She does look good, but I think a brunette seems more "right".  I guess I'm about to be flamed like crazy for saying that, but oh well.

Not really. Everyone has their own idea of what shepard is like so its okay if you don't really want to play a blonde shepard. I liked 6 but honestly she was the youngest and the most attractive to me. I would have liked her as a NPC in the game maybe one of Ashley's sisters lol.

So, let me get this straight. Having a blonde character means you are using a cliché, but you can't name 5 blonde protagonists in the past 5 years?

Perhaps your selection did not win the vote, OP, because no one wants Rihanna running around saving the galaxy. I thought all of the FemShep choices looked pretty horrible overall, and I actually prefer the generic default FemShep from the previous two games. The winner of the vote in no way looks like "Barbie". Just because she's blonde does not instantly make her a generic blonde Barbie figure. In fact, she looks almost scary. I would not want to face that FemShep in a game of chess, let alone a galactic battle for the universe.
