Looking through my videogame library I see lots of different ethniticies among both protagonists and antagonists, so I find your comment offensive given that it's a purely subjective statement based on a specific race you don't want to
lol come on, lets be realistic here. Are you just trying to argue with that person, not to derail this thing going on a whole other tangent, but the massive slant towards white males or females as protagonist in video games can not be denied.
I'm just getting tired of the same bull being pulled about a certain race being used all the time in games when the majority of games I play either has
a) undefined race (as in you never see it because you never see the protagonist or he/she is covered up in armor or other stuff covering everything).modifiable race, as in you choose yourself how you are going to look.
c) a race that doesn not exist in our modern world. (ie, elves, or robot or whatever)
The attitude against 'specific races' (whatever the side of the fence, cause it happens equally on both sides) is getting tiring sometimes. Hell, I just recently bought the GTA series on a deal and there it even jumps back and forth between each of the titles I got which race the protagonist is.
To cite something as bull is to deem it a false issue and not worthy of consideration. Citing the majority of games you own rather than the majority of games that have been created to call bull on the issue is folly because you own but a sliver of what's actually out there. To even think that you can make the statement you did on the issue based on what you own against what's out there is ridiculous. By that token people are perfectly right in saying blonde Shepard is winning/won because she was voted on by horny males and only then taking into account the number of "hot/hawt" posts made in efforts to undermine the argument you are against.
The GTA series is not a series in which the protagonists are inherently positive because of the benefits they get from killing people. You aren't a hero in those games.
Having a game that allows you to modify ethnicity doesn't mean much if the box offers an image of the hero as a particular gender or ethnicity. No matter what, the ME movie will feature a Caucasian male Shepard and the only likely possibility of there being anything different is gender.
In any case I'm pulling for various ethnicities to be featured as positive protagonists in various media because it is still a rare occurrence and will continue to be so by looking at various developers.
